Here's a list of fics I read in loved in 2025. I read 77 fics this year (being employed really did a number on my productivity when it comes to reading), and, although I really struggle with choosing favourites, these are a few of them. I tried to limit it to one fic per author to avoid this list being the same people over and over.

🫧 Slippery When Wet by yeah_alright / @uhoh-but-yeah-alright (E, 3.4k)

Harry has a habit of hot tubbing topless, to both the delight and dismay of her housemates Louis and Zayn. When it gets to be too much for Louis one day, she flees to her room to take care of herself, only to be surprised by Zayn showing up in her doorway and suggesting they take mutual advantage of Louis' view of the back garden where Harry's still enjoying her hot tub time.

In which Louis finds out the only thing hotter than Harry is getting off a few feet from a good friend who finds her just as overwhelming.

I loved how fun this one was! Really enjoyed it!

🫧 Rogue omega by Loretheloner / @loretheloner (M, 38k)

Written for prompt 6 of the 1DAngstFest 2025: Louis is a rogue on the run from his birth pack, who want to kill him because he's a male omega. He ends up in the Styles pack's territory, trying to get away from his hunters. But it's too late--the alphas surround the exhausted omega and attack him. The last thing he sees, before he passes out, is a huge black wolf with green eyes.

What a sight to die to.

A story about prejudice, prophecies, and rejection. Also a story about kindness, resilience and soulmates.

This was such a captivating and beautifully written story! I truly couldn't put it down.

Harry Styles, new director of the Milltown Zoo, has a great idea for a Valentine's Day themed fundraiser. For a donation, they'll name cockroaches after people's exes and then feed them to the meerkats on a live stream. He just didn't foresee how many cockroaches would end up with his name...

I'm a little late to the party with this one, but I loved how funny and silly it was.

Afterward, they swam in the ocean, splashing each other playfully before moving toward one another in sync, lips pressing together in sweet kisses. When their skin turned prune-like, they returned to shore, laying out on their towels beneath the bright sun, snacking on fruit and chocolate while talking about everything and nothing.

At some point, Harry had shared, “I think this has been my favorite summer yet.”

“Why’s that?” Louis asked, a smile peeking out as though he already knew. He looked so pretty and cool with his sun-kissed skin and black Ray-Bans covering his eyes.

Harry rolled over on his towel until he was half-pressed against Louis and placed his palms on top of Louis’ chest, tucking his chin over them. “Because I had you.”

Harry’s unrequited crush on Louis turns into a whirlwind summer romance, only to leave him heartbroken in the end. Years later, a return to his hometown forces Harry to confront his past and the one person he was running from.

I'm not joking when I say this ruined my life. It was just so heartbreaking and beautiful and so so so well written! I kept screaming the entire time I was reading (mostly at Louis, because my GOD did he need it, but Harry received a good scolding too). I honestly couldn't recommend it enough.

I loved reading this one as it was being posted. It was cute and funny and it hurt me, but it's fine. Truly, a beautiful fic.

I'm so obsessed with this one, I don't think I could ever fully explain it.

It’s the summer before Louis' senior year of college and he’s spending it getting drunk with his friends, working an internship he hates, and hooking up with Harry, the ‘straight’ frat boy he met in January. There’s only six weeks until school starts.

I really enjoyed reading this! Such a fun read!

But hearing him say it now, out loud, made it feel like everything inside Harry was unravelling.

His voice wavered, and for just a second, he was afraid all the truths he had kept so hidden might spill out. But they didn’t. He swallowed, his eyes flicking again to the heavy church doors. All he said was, “Yeah, I guess it does.”

Or, the one where there's always something standing in their way and they keep missing their chance. Until they don't.

This one was heartbreaking but so beautiful and I loved it a lot.

Until Harry, the art teacher who ribbon laces his sneakers and paints rainbow fences, makes it really easy to get distracted.

I don't want to talk about how much I cried while reading this, but what I do want to talk about is how much I loved it. Seriously, go read it if you haven't.

Louis, it turns out, is even cooler with it than Harry ever could've expected.

I loved this one! They're so cute!

2. Work you are most proud of (and why):

Although I’m proud of myself for finishing Big Yellow Taxi, and proud of the crafting of Breakdown!, I’m most proud of Find a light, as initially I planned on posting anonymously. I’m very proud of the characters, especially the original character of Evan.

3. Work you are least proud of (and why):

Octopus’s Garden. I’m so happy that people are reading it and enjoying it, and I do too! But… it feels a little shallow, even if it’s supposed to just serve this one-stop purpose.

4. A favorite excerpt of your writing:

It was like every wall was a bed for them to press each other against, like every second was an opportunity to make up for every millennia their souls had been apart. Louis had never felt like this, never been had like this either. He felt strong and delicate at once, worshipped and craved, on fire.

5. Share or describe a favorite review you received:

It’s not one comment in particular, but the general reaction to Breakdown! has been fascinating! While many people have prefaced their comments with something along the lines of either “I don’t normally read cheating fics…” or “I don’t condone cheating but…”, I can’t help but feel proud that Breakdown! got people to push their comfort zones a bit when it comes to fanfiction.

6. A time when writing was really, really hard:

Picking up Big Yellow Taxi again after taking a hiatus was really hard. While I was doing that, I tried and failed to plot out a fic I was excited about for the 1D Omegaverse Fic Fest. Big Yellow Taxi had gotten away from me as I got lost in the trap of trying to document every moment of every day. Yeah, it was just really really hard, but having cheerleaders helped immensely to keep the momentum.

7. A scene or character you wrote that surprised you:

All of Breakdown!. Seriously, every moment was a surprise to me, especially under the structure of the fic that I developed as I wrote - tying the flashbacks to the present via a common thread (image, word, feeling, etc). I’ve always been really good at working within a framework, and the challenge of this one stoked so much creativity. I really sometimes didn’t know what was going to happen in the next scene! I think the best writing experiences are when your characters take over and you end up just reporting on them.

8. How did you grow as a writer this year:

This year, promoted my works. I’ve always been a bit hesitant to connect my accounts to my writing, but it’s more fun this way to interact with people and talk with them about my fics. This year, I also challenged myself not to get so bogged down in details or documentation, a challenge which in part played into the structure of Breakdown!.

9. How do you hope to grow next year:

Next year, I hope to be more comfortable in that more abstractionist, impressionist writing style that I’m such a slut for.

10. Who was your greatest positive influence this year as a writer (could be another writer or beta or cheerleader or muse etc etc):

@tiredtiredtz and @loudloudlove.

11. Anything from your real life show up in your writing this year:

Yes! I always sneak in little references to conversations with friends and the like. Also, the only reason I’m ever able to write well when it comes to emotions and love and healthy relationships is my girlfriend.

12. Any wisdom you can share with other writers:

Let the characters take the wheel.

13. Any projects you’re looking forward to starting (or finishing) in the new year:

Yes! I’ve been working on a divorced Louis x widowed Harry fic for about two years (dubbed RWYA). I feel so protective of it, and want to get all the characters just right. HOPEFULLY I’ll be able to complete it this year.

I’ve got so many WIPs in drafts. I just kinda write whatever comes to me. I haven’t let go of the failed omegaverse fic fest idea…

I also have been writing a mega church au that I should probably finish too!

Harry is the owner of a community outreach bookstore-come-soup kitchen that helps the homeless get back on their feet. He loves to help people and to watch them turn their life around. But is he neglecting his own?

Louis is serving a harsh prison sentence for committing a crime he should never have been involved in. He's had a lot of time to think about where he went wrong and how to put it right.
