Title: A Touch of Green
Just a litte domestic Fiyeraba drabble
The townhouse had long since settled for the night.
Outside, the last of the stars had finally emerged, a warm breeze drifting through the open bedroom window, carrying with it the scent that promised rain.
Inside, only a dim bedside lamp remained lit.
Fiyero lay on his back, one arm tucked beneath his head, the other intertwined with long, slender green fingers. Their silver wedding bands caught the soft amber glow every time either of them shifted.
Elphaba was curled against his side, her cheek resting against his shoulder.
Fiyero's breathing had settled into the slow, even rhythm that always meant he was hovering somewhere between awake and asleep.
Not quite dreaming, but not quite here either.
She carefully slipped her hand from his.
His fingers twitched instinctively, searching for hers even in his half-asleep state.
"I'm still here," she whispered.
Propping herself up on one elbow, she gently combed her fingers through his curls, smiling when he leaned ever so slightly into her touch.
She bent down and brushed a soft kiss against his lips.
He smiled against hers without ever opening his eyes.
She lingered for a moment before letting her lips wander to his cheek, then along the sharp line of his jaw.
Another kiss.
Then another.
When she reached his neck, she paused over the familiar blue diamond nestled just beneath his ear, pressing a lingering kiss to the ink.
His hand found her hair automatically, his fingers slipping into the dark strands as though they'd made the journey a thousand times before.
Her lips followed the familiar trail of blue diamonds down his neck to his collarbone. She took her time, tracing each one with quiet reverence before continuing lower, across the broad planes of his chest and along the pattern that curved toward his ribs.
She knew every diamond by heart.
Every line.
Every space between them.
Or at least, she thought she did.
Her lips paused against his ribs.
Her brow furrowed.
That wasn't right.
She pulled back slightly, her fingertips retracing the familiar trail of blue diamonds until they came to one she didn't recognize.
Her breath caught.
The skin around it was still faintly red, the edges just a little irritated.
New.
It was the same size.
The same shape.
Perfectly nestled among the others, as though it had always belonged there.
But instead of the deep Vinkun blue...
This one was green.
Her green.
The exact shade of her skin.
Her thumb brushed over it once, feather-light, almost afraid it might somehow disappear beneath her touch.
Slowly, she lifted her gaze.
Fiyero was already looking at her.
His blue eyes were heavy with sleep, a quiet smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.
He'd been waiting for her to find it.
Elphaba looked back down at the tiny green diamond, her thumb still resting against the fresh ink.
"...Fiyero."
"Yes, my love?" he murmured, a sleepy smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth.
Her eyes flicked back to his.
"When?"
"Earlier today."
She blinked.
"Today?"
He nodded.
Her fingertips carefully traced around the new diamond, avoiding the still-irritated skin.
"You matched it to my skin."
"I had them mix the ink until it matched."
She looked at him, completely bewildered.
"Why?"
His smile softened.
"The blue diamonds tell the story of my people."
His fingers found hers, guiding them gently over a few of the familiar blue diamonds that stretched across his chest.
"They tell where I came from."
His eyes met hers before he slowly moved her hand to the fresh green diamond, letting her fingertips rest there.
"But this one..."
His thumb settled over the back of her hand.
"...this tells me where home is."
Elphaba simply stared at him.
The room fell silent.
She felt her vision blur before she even realized tears had gathered in her eyes.
She lowered her head and pressed the gentlest kiss she could to the fresh green diamond.
Then she lifted her gaze, cupped his face between her hands, and kissed him.
Slowly.
Tenderly.
When they finally parted, she rested her forehead against his.
"I love you."
His smile was impossibly soft.
"I love you."
Neither of them spoke again.
They didn't need to.
Her hand remained over the tiny green diamond, feeling the warmth of his skin beneath her palm.
He had carried the story of the Vinkus on his skin for years.
Now...
He carried the story of her there, too.
