Harry and Ron went to the field after school for their track practice and found Ginny already waiting in the changing room with a teasing smirk on her freckled face.
" Good of you to finally show up - Coach Wood is ready to murder you." she said with a smile on her face.
"Well, it was our turn to clean the chemistry lab, and Slughorn made us scrub everything twice," ron said while quickly discarding his school bag aside after pulling his change of clothes.
"To be fair, he only made you clean twice because you clean the worst than anyone that i ever met, and i only stayed to help because I'm the best," Harry said while tying his running shoes.
Harry moves to open his locker only to find the door off his hinges in his hand. Cheap- ass public school, he thought while trying to put the locker door back together, Ginny gave him a look, and Harry shrugged his shoulders.
"How was i supposed to know you need to use soap?" Ron said with his shirt over his head.
"Because we thought you're not a dumbass," Ginny said harshly, "I don't know what Hermione sees in you, because i know it's not your pretty face or charming personality"
" I don't know either," Ron confessed with a dreamy expression on his face, " I'm the luckiest guy alive"
Both Ginny and Harry snorted while exchanging disbelieving looks.
"What are you doing here anyway? It's the boys' locker room - and mom and dad didn't try seven times for you to be here.
"Who cares? Come on, practice starts in 3 minutes, and that means we are already 2 minutes late," Ginny said right before they heard a yell from the field
" Potter, girl Weasley, boy Weasley quit blabbering and start stretching"
"Yes coach" they all answered while running to the field.
While stretching, Harry caught himself twice staring at Ginny and quickly looking away - she is Ron's sister, he told himself, she's seeing Dean, he repeated to no avail.
Ron went to the jumping pit, and Harry, Ginny, and their teammates to the 4x100 mixed relay, Demelza and Dean, went to the track.
Harry, being the captain of the relay team after Angelina graduation last year, said, "Let's work on the batton passing first a then do a full speed run"
Ginny saluted and said, " No problem, captain." With an emphasis on the captain, Harry blushed, and Dean scowled.
At first,when Demelza and Dean - the first and second runners, and Harry and Ginny the third and fourth runners worked on the baton swap, everything went swimmingly, but when Dean and Ginny started working they immediately started to bicker "I don't need you telling me how I'm supposed to do it," Ginny scolded.
"If you do it the way i tell you, you'll be so much better," Dean said in exasperation. Harry stomach did a little flip, and he thought maybe he should let them continue to fight, but then he decided team chemistry is important and cut them off, "Let's do the full run. Wood, can you time us?"
When Ginny came with the batton with the determined look in her eyes, Harry started to run, the batton exchanged hands perfectly in stride, and Harry felt he never run so fast in his life - up until he stumbled 10 feet before the finish line and rolled several feet landing face down.
"Harry! are you okay??" Ginny yelled before turning Harry over and scanning for injuries.
Harry blushed, and he didn't know if it was embarrassment or from Ginny's touch, and said, "Yeah, I'm fine, just mixed up my feet, i got too excited there"
Wood came over and said , " All right there, Potter?" After Harry nods, he adds more enthusiastically. "Before the fall, you were on the way to breaking the school record! You were flying Potter"
Harry looked at his knees, expecting to find scrapes - only to find them without blemish. weird, he thought i was sure i felt my knees scrape on the track.
Later, in the showers, Harry took off his glasses and expected the fuzziness that came with it, but after a few moments, he discovered that he saw as if he was still wearing the glasses.
He showered and then went to look at the mirror with only a towel on and saw a six-pack in the reflection that wasn't there last time he checked.
When did that happened he wondered, maybe it's connected to what happened yesterday.
It was sunday morning, and all Harry wanted was to stay in bed all day and relax his aching muscles after the gruelling practice that wood put them through the evening before.
All his plans to a well deserved lie-in were ruined thanks to the screams of aunt Petunia. "Where is the breakfast?? we have to leave for a very important meeting with Mr Mason in half hour"
"I'll be right there" harry answered groaning. ever since he was tall enough to reach the stove he was incharge of cooking breakfast to his family - his aunt Petunia, her husband Vernon and their son Dudley.
"That is the least you could do" uncle Vernon said like he said every morning, "Housing you, feeding you , all for the goodness of our heart", he spat like it's somehow Harry's fault that his parents died in a car crash when he was a baby and he needed someone to take care of him.
After breakfast, when Vernon and Petunia were on their way out from the house Vernon yelled "Remember your chores, i except the grass to be cut and the kitchen spotless!"
After cleaning the kitchen and cutting the grass, Harry picked up the mail and saw a letter addressed to him.
In the letter was only a note with an address not far from his school and a short message:
"Your parents left me their life work before they died, it's time you see it"
Harry checked the back to see if there is more but he didn't saw anything there.
Harry thought about telling Ron about this but something stopped him from that - it was his parents work - he needed to see it for the first time by himself.
When Harry got to the building, it was in a back alley,and he saw an old-school sign that said "Marauders-corp", and below that a door with a fingerprint reader to the side.
Harry tried to open the door but it was locked, tried ringing the bell to no answer, and after couple minutes decided to try the fingerprint reader with his right hand.
Suddenly, he felt a sting in his finger and exclaimed "WHAT THE FUCK," but before he could properly curse the door, the machine the letter and Vernon for good measure, he heard a robotic voice that said "Welcome Harry Potter",and a series of clicks; the door opened to reveal a dusty laboratory, with a bunch of test tubes with glowing liquids inside, a few cages with what appeared to be dead spiders inside them, and what look like an incubator with an assortment of different eggs inside.
Ha started to examine the room carefully when he felt a small animal running by his feet - he jumped in fright and knocked over one of the cages, "it was just a rat" he said, trying to calm himself down, "nothing to be nervous about".
Harry tried to put the cage back in his place when he notice the spider was gone - now, Harry was not Ron and he was not afraid of spiders - but he did felt a shiver go down his spine at the thought of a spider that was experimented on roaming free in his proximity.
For the second time that day, Harry felt a sting in his right hand and saw a big green spider the size of an apple mid bite into his flesh, Harry quickly used his other hand to swipe at the creature and he got him to fall on the floor.
Harry sprinted to the door and hurriedly shuts it behind him, and continued to sprint for several blocks until he stopped to take a breath, panting and mumbling to himself - "what the hell, seriously what the actual fuck"
Harry looked at his hand, and saw an ugly reddish-purple color around the bite-mark and thought about going to a hospital to get that checked - but then he remembered the last time he went to a hospital because of an animal bite - when his aunt Marge's dog bit him - and the yelling he got about the hospital bill from Vernon, and decided to sleep on it and only if it gets worse to go see doctor Pomfrey at the school.
Harry barely managed the walk to the bus station, and he would have missed his stop if the bus driver would not have waked him up, "Thanks Stan," Harry said groggily before he walked back to the house, climbed up to his room and didn't even took off his glasses before falling asleep.
