"Hey, Maddie. 'Sup," he says as he slaps the speakerphone on rather than try to manage holding it up to his face as he blinks away the crust of sleep.
"Are you sleeping?" she asks him, scoffing. "It's almost noon."
He grunts and says, "Obviously I am not asleep, I am talking to my mean judgy sister."
She squawks a little as he snickers, then says, "That's me, mean and judgy, calling my lazy whiny little brother just to see how he's doing."
"Okay, maybe you're not mean," he says, smiling as he swipes his eyes and then yawns. "What are you up to today?"
"Oh, nothing much, doing some cleaning. Laundry, ugh." She groans as there's a clatter and a clang and then some rushing water. She sighs and says a much lighter, "But later I'm gonna go to a yoga class I think."
He laughs.
"What? I exercise! Sometimes."
