Tonight I am reviewing an Old Hamer Single Barrel pick that @matchbourbon812 did a while back. I picked this up at Sunset Spirits in New Albany for around $40. I am assuming this is around 2+ years old and a 99% corn / 1% barely mashbill. On the nose I am getting sweet corn, cherry, and chocolate tobacco. On the palate I am getting sweet corn, dark cherries, vanilla, and a slight mint note. The mint is almost like a mentholated sensation on the back of my tongue. The finish is long with a cherry vanilla note. Think cherry coke. I currently have a few other single barrel picks from Old Hamer (@westforkwhiskey) and I love all of them! Definitely worth picking one up if you see it on the shelf. Have you had Old Hamer? When @krogerco gives you 27 more lemons than you asked for, you make a bunch of things with lemon. My wife and I decided to make a Lemon Ricotta Cake. Of course I had to pair it with some bourbon. I went with Heaven Hill BiB because of the brown sugar notes. It paired perfectly with the sweetness of the cake. Well...I guess it’s back to work tomorrow. I was fortunate enough to be able to take off work over the Holidays. Such a nice break but I am ready to get back to it! Tonight I am enjoying an old fashioned. I am using the Old Fashioned Mix from @staugustinedistillery and Benchmark Full Proof. The Full proof holds up well in this cocktail. The mix does a great job of adding spice and zest to the drink. Sometimes I will garnish with an orange or cherry. How do you like your old fashioned’s? . .
