The ocean has always felt like a woman to me. Not because she is gentle. That was never true. Because everyone loves her from a distance. They photograph her in the morning light. They bottle her colors, write songs about her tides, drape paintings of her across living room walls. They call her beautiful while forgetting she has swallowed ships whole.
