Pets? Help?
So I'm moving into an apartment and were allowed caged animals. I've been doing research on the best pets for me and have narrowed it down to three options. Chinchilla Rats Dwarf rabbit Now, I had two lion head rabbits a few years ago, litter trained them and loved them. But they weren't very friendly no matter how much I tried to socialize with them. My wants for a pet: - Something that I can interact with (which is why I'm not buying a fish). - One that can be litter trained. I feel that litter training them helped cut back on smell. - I like lining cages with FLEECE. So litter training also helps keep smell off the fleece - One that's a pretty "clean" animal. I'll have an air purifier and expect some sort of small odor but reason why I'm not getting a ferret is because of odor. I found a cute cage called Critter Nation in which iD use for chinchilla or rat, now would a Dwarf Rabbit be okay in a Ferret nation cage? Can chinchillas be litter trained? That's a big put off since I haven't found evidence of litter training them. Also, costs. Which is the most cost effective animal? (Obviously excluding vet bills) Please pm me if you have any advice! I want to get as much research done before deciding!
Cage Cleaning Step-by-Step
Ok sorry I got distracted cleaning the rest of the apartment, but here are the pictures of how I clean my double unit Critter Nation. I do this once a week just in case anyone is wondering. It usually takes me about 40 minutes. 1. Get your supplies! I use a trash bag, Lysol Wipes, Odoban Spray Cleaner, a towel, and the green bucket from their cage (I use this to soak the binder clips). I fill the bucket up with a little bit of Odoban and warm water.
2. Take out all the hammocks and shake them into the trash bag to remove any poop, nesting material, fleece scraps, etc. Set them aside to be washed with the cage liners. Throw out anything that is smelly and gross including boxes, wood chews, chewable tunnels, etc.
3. Then, remove all the other cage accessories. I have litterpans, a space pod, a chinchilla dust house, granite slabs, food bowls, treat cages, and random other things like jingle balls and wood chews. I leave the rope toys, water bottles, and perches. Dump all the litterpans and shake everything out if needed.
4. Put all of this in a bathtub with a small amount of cleaner- Odoban, Nature’s Miracle, Bleach, Vinegar, etc. Fill the rest of the tub with warm water. You can use any cleaner as long as you remember to rinse afterwards. 5. While this is all soaking, go back to the cage and start on the liners. Take all the binder clips off and put them in the bucket with your cleaner/warm water. Fold the liner into the center so none of the poop or other mess comes out and then hold it in a trash bag and shake it out. Set aside with the hammocks to be washed.
6. Dump any remaining poop or mess on the pans into the trash can. Wipe them down with your cleaner and some paper towels or Lysol wipes. Then go rinse them in the bathtub with water to get the cleaner off. Pat them dry and bring them back to the cage. 7. Remove the binder clips from the bucket and pat them dry with the towel. Lay fresh liners over the trays and secure them with the clean binder clips. Repeat this with all the trays and put them back in as you go.
8. Drain the bathtub and rinse everything that was soaking thoroughly. Pat it dry with the towel and bring it back to the cage and set it all up. For me, this includes putting new litter in the pans and food in the bowls. I also dump the bucket where I was soaking the clips, rinse and dry it, and put it back in the cage.
9. Put clean hammocks in! I have enough hammocks that I have two sets and don’t have to wait for them to wash and dry before I can put them back in. If you don’t have as many, the ratties will just have to wait until the wash is done!
10. Throw the hammocks and liners in the wash- I wash with detergent and Odoban on hot water. Sometimes I wash again with just detergent if they are still smelly. Once they’re done in the washer and dryer, fold and store until next week!
Every other week, I also vaccum around the cage since they like to kick stuff out. Once a month, I wipe down all the bars and cracks and crevices of the cage.
I hope this was helpful. Everyone has their own routine and their own cage set-up, but this is what works best for me.
****To the people who complain about child care being too much or teachers not doing a good enough job to get paid more or RAISING THE MINIMUM WAGE.**** These are my hours the past two weeks. Little secret: I typically get there between 7-730 and don't get to clock in until breakfast time even though I am working. These are the hours I worked minus the day I was sick, and the two I left early because I had appointments for being so sick. (Typically it would be around 91-98 hours I'm at work even though I won't be clocked in for it all) Wanna know something? I'll probably bring home about 550$ (more or probably less). They'll take out a half hour each day for my "Lunch" even though half the time I'm busy doing papers, or finishing projects and not actually getting a break. These hours don't take into account the time I spend at home finishing observations I wrote throughout the day, logging in checkpoints to see where each child stands. This time doesn't take into account the time I spend prepping some projects at home to make sure that everyday is a new learning experience. So before you complain about how minimums wage is fine the way it is because "burger flippers should be teenagers and it's not meant to make a career of" here's your reminder that it's not just fast food places that give minimum wage. I'm making more than minimum but not nearly enough. We have girls with MASTERS degrees in Early childhood education in our preschool who are making 13-15$ an hour. Girls who are applying their asses off at other schools and can't find a better job because there are none. Don't come on here with the "oh well firefighters only make 12$ an hour" - because OKAY? and they are underpaid. Don't derail the issue at hand.
You can waste my time if you let me waste your money.
Got my allowance. 💁
I need this in my life. Too bad. 😩
Typical money shot. Between my SD and my customer at work I made several grand this weekend. Rent paid, car paid, everything paid, extra g in the savings account, spending money, AND got money in my account. Damn I feel good!!! And my best friend got married on Saturday and I cried through the entire ceremony because it was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen!! I also managed to make it through the night in my white $400 outfit without spilling a drop of red wine on it so I was very proud of myself. Pretty much a perfect weekend. And I went crazy in the grocery store yesterday. I walked out with two full shopping carts, my fridge and pantry are completely full right now. Then today I fucked my vanilla fwb so I am one happy little bitch right now. 😁😁😁
💁🏽💁🏽💁🏽 I want to be Judy
So it’s ok for men to use women for their bodies but unacceptable for women to use men for money??? 😐😑🤔🙃
When your boobs decide to make you feel like someone is twisting your nipple from the inside out. Wtf.
!!!! important !!!!
Let’s talk about representation in ‘The 100′
we have:
Characters of colour( Jaha, Indra, Anya, Maya, Monty, Dr. Tsing, Miller, Wells, Raven, Lincoln etc.)
Characters with mental illnesses( Lincoln and clarke both suffer/suffered from a form of post traumatic stress disorder, and Jasper I’m pretty sure has depression)
Characters with disabilties(Raven’s left leg is paralyzed)
Lgbtq+ characters( Clarke is bisexual, Lexa is gay, Miller is gay/bi/pan, and I think Murphy is asexual)
Characters with addictions(Lincoln was addicted to ‘the red’ for a while, Jasper is an alcoholic)
Boys who cry, boys who are peacemakers, boys who feel pain, boys who have anxiety
Girls who are leaders of tribes, girls who keep on fighting no matter what, girls with anger problems,
Characters with real emotions like jealousy, guilt, extreme anger, long term sadness, etc.
All girls are treated equal
Characters who like sex, characters who don’t like sex
Characters of various ages
This shows a variety of people and people who say having so much representation like this takes away from show are wrong. I think it adds a more realistic vibe to it and everyone can relate. More shows should have representation like this. Representation does not take away or change the focus of the show.
