Welcome to LoveBugs ~

LoveBugs is an upcoming app dedicated to self/yumeshippers!

This app will be developed by a solo, beginner coder, however volunteers may be called for when development is closer to starting

We aim to make a safe space for all selfshippers to compile lore, art, and other information about their ships

LoveBugs will be neutral on any and all discourse, and will never bar someone from using its services

(However, harassment towards myself on this blog will result in a block. Anyone can use the app but bullies may not interact with the app’s socials)

The app will be offline, meaning all information is stored directly on your device—no one but yourself will be able to access your data, not even developers

While LoveBugs is designed for self/yumeshippers, anyone may use the app for all their shipping needs! Canon ships, OC x canon ships, even you and your real life partner(s) can use the app if it helps you

Weekly Update C:

But first, NEWS:

I’ve decided to make a Discord server because I think it’ll be easier to organise my ideas and suggestions, and I use Discord more than Tumblr anyway

This will be made at some point next week. It won’t be pretty probably, but it’ll just be a start. I’m repurposing an old account so I can separate the app from my main account

Anyway;

Okay!! It technically hasn’t been a week yet since I started learning BUT I thought Monday would be a good day to do a recap of the week prior

So, my progress:

Day one: ≈4.5hrs

64% through Basic HTML

29% through HTML module

Day two: ≈20 mins

70% through Basic HTML

32% through HTML module

Day three: ≈2.7hrs

100% through Basic HTML

25% through Semantic HTML

50% through HTML module

Total hours: 7.5hrs

Pretty good for half a week I think. Could easily get 10 hours in next week. Please ignore how inconsistent my learning has been throughout days 💀

So, I’m pretty familiar with very basic HTML, and am now learning about semantics and how certain elements MUST be used for certain things and CANNOT be used for others, even if they present themselves much the same on the page (like <i> and <em>, <b> and <strong>, and also things like <div> and <section>)

So yeah! That’s a little update for this week C:

By the way, if anyone’s curious, I’m doing the Responsive Web Design course through freeCodeCamp to get a sense of HTML and CSS, and then I’ll move onto something more related to desktop apps rather than websites

LoveBugs Features Priority List ~

This post will contain four priority lists for suggested and planned features for the LoveBugs app, to make organization of features more effective:

Top Priority - Will be implemented first and foremost

High Priority - Will definitely be implemented if possible, or a similar or substitute version will be implemented if not exactly possible

Medium Priority - Will be likely to be implemented if possible, but if not possible, likely won't be substituted for a similar feature

Low Priority - Last to be implemented, won't be substituted for a similar feature if not possible

Note: You may see older posts referring to "Current Plans" or "Potential Plans". Top and High Priority features are equal to "Current Plans" and Medium and Low Priority features are equal to "Potential Plans"

Note: Suggestions for accessibility options are highly appreciated. They will always be added to either the Top or High Priority lists. If you need certain accessibility options, please suggest it

Top Priority ~

♡ Desktop offline app

♡ Light and Dark themes, plus accessibility themes such as higher contrast, low to no eyestrain, etc

♡ ADHD and dyslexia-friendly font options, ability to change font size and spacing, and ability to toggle off fancy/cursive heading fonts

♡ Alt text for all images and other elements where alt text can be added

♡ Tabs for lore/timelines of your ships, headcanons and scenarios, letters to and from your f/o, etc

♡ Multiple ships logged at once, potentially with connections between ships for those with more complex lore and polyshippers

High Priority ~

♡ A gallery for art of your f/o, selfship art, Picrews, and any other images you want to save

♡ Templates for you, your f/o, and both/all of you together (Including image collages, ship templates, etc. designed by myself or others willing to have their art on this app with consent and credit)

♡ Message boards between you and your f/o (in the theme of texts, letters, etc) for roleplay or for soulbonders to communicate externally

♡ Calendar for important dates, anniversaries, birthdays, etc

Medium Priority ~

♡ Fully customisable colour schemes for the app’s UI

♡ Notifications from your f/o, with some presets that can toggled on and off and/or with fully customisable messages

♡ Digital shrine section where you can upload images into something like a photo garland or a pinboard etc

♡ Password-locked to prevent other users of your device to access your app

♡ Ability to change the profile picture of the app / have an "Incognito" mode to make it harder to identify what type of app this is

Low Priority ~

♡ Mobile app (This is unlikely to happen without funding)

♡ If a mobile app is developed, widgets may be an option

♡ Transfer from offline-only to offline-first, with the ability to connect to the internet in order to have a friends list, where friends can view information you set to be able to be viewed

(This will not happen without funding, and is therefore at the very bottom of the priority list right now. In the future, a Patreon or KoFi may be created for the app to have online functions)

Once again, if you have any suggestions, please share them in this blog's askbox! No suggestions are bad, but some may not be feasible, unfortunately

Hello!! This is such an awesome idea and I'm super excited for it!! I'm gonna drop a whole bunch of suggestions, just things I think would be awesome. No pressure on any of these!

• Calculator and/or currency converter for the ones buying merch! Most like, for example, JP proxy sites have this already- but would be helpful if someone is in a different country and needs to convert on the fly!

• Option to choose if you're nonsharing and opt in for reminders (maybe pop-up notifs?) that your F/O only loves you and such? Perhaps can later have toggles such as a 'jealousy scale' where people can set it to see how frequently they get the reminders!

• Paper dolls of F/Os that can be found in a database of characters you can search through! Ideally it'd be like Shimeji where the character is drawn in a super cute chibi style and hangs out in the corner of your screen (for admiring the lover purposes.. you kno..). Clicking on them would make them do limited actions like blushing/pouting/smiling etc! Maaaaaybe animated in the future? But I can help provide chibis for that if you go with this idea!

• Tags for sorting your F/O art/writing, especially if going online to share to friends! And with that a blacklist so those with friends who may be triggered by some of the things you draw/write can filter out that specific post from their friend.

• Option for those more tech-savvy to code their own themes.

I could do a wishlist type of thing, and maybe a currency converter at the top of the page! That would definitely be really useful!

Notifications from your f/o are already on the Potential Plans list, with preset notifications and/or custom ones. If this would happen, it would have options for how many times daily/weekly to send notifications, or to send them randomly, etc. Preset ones would be simple like "I miss you", "You look lovely today", etc etc, while custom ones would be whatever you want them to be. This way, non-sharers can cater their notifications to be exactly as frequent as they want, and with the exact kind of content they want

Page dolls would be cute, but having a database of characters would likely be highly impractical, if impossible. It would be way easier to have people upload their own images to be page dolls. That way, everyone can have their f/o in the style they like, and I don't have to worry about trying to add every single character from every single show, draw them into a chibi style, and make a database out of that :,) I would imagine a database with so many characters would make the app be very big in size, which isn't optimal. It's a good idea though! Having a way to upload page dolls will be put in Potential Plans, but having a database is not feasible unfortunately

Tags for content is a good idea! Preset ones would probably be the easiest, but if I can figure out how to make custom ones available, I'll definitely do that. Preset tags = Current Plans, custom tags = Potential Plans

Preset colour schemes are already in Current Plans and custom colour schemes with some hex code pickers are in Potential Plans. I don't know how I'd make it possible to completely change the theme though. I'm assuming anyone tech savvy enough to change the coding for the theme would do it anyway though if they really wanted to

I thought I’d made a post about it, but I think I only added it to the list of Current Plans a couple days ago without saying anything publicly, so that’s my bad :,)

But anyway, yes, a dyslexia-friendly font option is 100% going to be an option, no doubt

I know a thing or two about program organisation and architecture, web development and testing

At the moment, I’m planning on just focusing on actually learning how to code with some free courses, and maybe doing some design of what I want the app to look like, so I’m not thinking a huge amount about the app right now…

BUT in the future, closer to when I’m ready to start, I’ll probably make a post asking for some volunteers with more experience to help, such as back-end development, visual design, debugging and testing, accessibility, etc!

A basic Discord server or group chat would probably be the easiest way for everyone to communicate so that would be made as well

It would definitely mean a lot to me if, when I get to this stage, you could reach out again! It would really really help and I’d genuinely be so grateful!

maybe ui customization could be a thing once development is started and far enough? i always like to theme applications i use if possible.

Oooh I really like that! I was going to try and have a dark and light mode anyway, and maybe some other themes with accessibility options (like high contrast, muted colours to avoid eyestrain, etc), and while I’m not sure how easy it’ll be to make everything fully customisable, different themes would definitely be really cool!

I agree wholeheartedly with that, it’s frankly quite childish to try and ban some people and not others from using an app. If I wanted to do that, I wouldn’t be posting about it publicly

I do think that a lot of people are misunderstanding the purpose of the app as well (as seen by multiple comments here lol). This app is not a social app. You, the user, won’t know who uses it, and I, the developer, won’t know either. You won’t interact with other people. There are no likes, reblogs, shares, etc. No DMs, no comments. It’s just a place to store information about you and your partner(s)

Therefore, it doesn’t matter what someone uses the app for. It’s completely private (unless you share screenshots), so it’s not “encouraging” any behaviour. People are already slapping incorrect labels on the app and it’s not even in development yet lol

Anyway. Use the app for whatever you want. It’s all on your computer anyway, so anything illegal you do, will be on your computer as well. That’s not my problem. That’s your problem, and the police’s problem. I cannot do anything about it, whether I want to or not

I think I’ll start with learning front-end development before moving onto back-end things. I like making stuff look pretty so that’s definitely what’s driving my passion for the this project, but I do also want to give back-end a go

Anyway little learning update:

I’ve been learning from freeCodeCamp and have been doing the Responsive Web Design course as it starts right from scratch on literally everything

I did about 4.5 hours of this course. Finished 87 steps out of 137 for the Basic HTML section, out of 302 for the entire HTML module, and out of 1552 out of the entire course…

That’s:

64% of the section

29% of the module

6% of the course

… Yayyy guys…

I have such a bad headache now BUT SCREW IT WE BALL

Some more stats below if anyone’s interested:

There are 5 courses I want to do: Web Design (1552 steps). JavaScript (1319 steps). Front-End (525 steps). Python (531 steps). Relational Data (63 steps). Total is 3990 steps

(Back-End course isn’t finished yet on the site but hopefully will be almost done when I’m finishing up with the courses that are already there)

If I aim for around 10 hours a week of working on it (#unemployed #studyingfromhome), and I get around 90 steps in 4.5 hours, I can get maybe 200 steps done per week. If I can keep up this rate, I can probably finish these courses in around 20 weeks

(So… It would be finished in around November)

That’s NOT including the exams and stuff that the website has though, which will likely take a few hours each knowing how bad I am at this so far lmao, but they’re not really going to help me learn much more apart from maybe trouble-shooting or something

That’s also not including weeks I might do more or less than 10 hours of the courses in, there will probably be a significant variation between weeks

SO. Yeah that’s my update. For now, I think this blog will be my motivation to keep learning and will help hold myself accountable. When it’s time to make the app, then obviously things will be more interesting

I’m not sure how exactly this will work, but maybe it can be like a pinboard with slots to upload images? Or one of those photo garlands with the polaroids pegged to some string?

I think that would be so cutie but I lowkey have zero idea how to get there lol
