Having diabetes affects your body’s ability to handle hot, humid weather, and steamy temperatures can degrade diabetes supplies. But all of this is manageable. You can enjoy the summer and keep your blood sugar under control.
Sierra Sandison couldn’t imagine how she would hide an insulin pump during beauty pageants. So she decided to show it off for the Miss Idaho pageant. She won. Type 1 diabetics say they won, too.
This.
Electric Coffee Maker by siemenc
Pretty nifty slow drip coffee maker.
Coffee seems to be a double edged sword; past studies have said drinking coffee in moderation can help lose weight and lower the risk of type 2 diabetes (here), while a recent study found that coffee overload could also prevent weight loss.
Excess consumption of certain types of polyphenols found in coffee (chlorgenic acid) have health implications such as prevention of fat loss to insulin resistance.
Weebly - Free Sites for You!
I recently came across the Weebly website, which offers free hosting and easy templates as well and drag and drop website creation. Weebly is a great tool for people as it doesn't require a lot of html/css know how; it's very user friendly and intuitive, removing the barrier of coding and great website design! It's perfect for beginners!
Whether people want to do business or sell things online, reach new people and be found, showcase their achievements, or communicate with their friends or family, Weebly is the best way for them to create a high-quality site that meets their goals. – David Rusenko, Weebly CEO & Co-Founder
Some great benefits of Weebly is the drag and drop functions, the no-cost for use, and a wide selection of templates to choose from. A full review offers a more in depth look at the benefits including pros and cons of the site.
I took the initiative and started playing around with the site and made my own blog for diabetes; I must admit that I am quite satisfied with all the features.
Avocados are Great for People with Type 2 Diabete
Avocados are a great source for healthy fats. as they are high in monounsaturated fats. Multiple researchers have come to the conclusion that having a diet that is plentiful in monosaturdaed fats while have a low amount of "poor" carbohydrates can improve insulin sensitivity which is the problem people with type 2 diabetes face. Another benefit of avocados is that it helps to improve heart health which is a very important benefit for people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. The American Diabetes Association (ADA) explains that diabetes are at an increased risk for heart disease and stroke.
There’s a big link between diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. In fact, two out of three people with diabetes die from heart disease or stroke, also called cardiovascular disease. Clogged blood vessels can lead to heart attack, stroke, and other problems. But there are treatments for heart disease, stroke, and blood vessel disease.
The Great Potato Debate
There has been a great debate on what types of potatoes are beneficial and healthy for you; there has also been a misconception and some bad press in regards to potatoes as well. Recently, good press has been associated with the sweet potato being labeled as a type of "superfood" for all the fiber, nutrients and minerals that they provide. Unfortunately the regular potato has been seen as the opposite being full of carcinogens and a high glycemic index. In actuality, both potatoes are healthy and beneficial!
Potatoes are energy-rich and nutritious, however how the food is cooked is the major impacting affect on people's health and waist lines. Most white potatoes are processed as chips or cooked in oil as fries, adding to the calorie count and the unhealthiness.
A full article about the difference between potatoes, yams and sweet potatoes can be found at Precision Nutrition.

Another way to eat healthy is with fish!
Coffee Can Help Lower the Risk of Diabetes????
Coffee can help lower the risk of diabetes apparently! According to a recent study, people that boost their daily intake of coffee by more than one cup over the span of four years were able to reduce their diabetes risk. Also related, adults that drank less coffee in that time frame saw their chances of diabetes increasing. This study included over 123,000 adult participants.
It's difficult however to determine which specific components of coffee help to contribute to reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes; it's plausible that it's a combination of the antioxidants as well as other nutrients. Coffee can be part of a healthy diet but is no way a cure-all for type 2 diabetes.
On my recent exploration of the internet, I came upon some diabetic shoes that don't look like your typical "granny" diabetic shoes. Instead, they look very fashion forward and have a lot more "pop" compared to other diabetic shoes that I've seen. These are the I-Runner Diabetic Shoes made by Hylan. I did some research about the company and found out that they're based out of Ownesboro, KY and the shoes are designed by a certified pedorthists. Now besides the sharp styling of these shoes, I also found out that they are covered under the Therapeutic Shoe Bill which provides one pair of diabetic shoes per year, for people that qualify. Stand out features that are beneficial to people with painful foot conditions include the following:
Seam free, neuropathy friendly toe box
Mesh side panels (bunion pocket)
Extra depth with removable footbed spager
Cushioing, shock absorbing midsole
Can accommodate prescription orthotics
I've only been able to find them at a couple of online retailers are they sell for $119.95 shipped. Definitely a step in the right direction in regards to diabetic shoes!

Tom Hanks and Type 2 Diabetes
Tom Hanks is doing well in managing his type 2 diabetes. When he first shared on Letterman, Tom Hanks said
My doctor said, 'If you can weigh what you weighed in high school, you'll essentially be healthy and not have Type 2 diabetes.'
"Well, I'm gonna have Type 2 diabetes because there is no way I can weigh as much as I did in high school!"
Tom Hanks has been managing his type 2 diabetes through daily exercise, as physical activity and propet diet are just as important in managing diabetes as medications, as stated by the American Diabetes Association (ADA). Here is a link the the full article.
