Questions about making an actor’s demo reel

I’ve never come across any workshops about demo reels and yet film actors are required to have one. I’ve seen some great ones and some okay ones. I’ve made one and it’s terrible. It looks like I did it myself and that’s not how I want to promote myself as an actor.
