lesbianism at its finest
Intrigued by the fact that, sometimes, Makima doesn’t even look Denji in the eye, purposefully averting her gaze.
I think the best example is definitely the cinema one. If Makima looked at Denji just once, she would've seen that someone shared the same emotions as her – but she doesn’t, even if her biggest wish is that of equality and connection – because she doesn’t see him, or anyone, as an equal (with the exception of maybe Kishibe. this is a whole different post tho).
Zoning off and staring at nothing when they touch. Unlike Denji, who was constantly looking at her to see if his emotions were normal and valid and the way he presented himself was ok.
And then, when she is looking at him, it's not always eye-to-eye. To me the second one is so amusing... with the position they're in, it'd be easier if Makima just looked down. But instead, she forces Denji to look up while she stares forward. Like showing she's in a higher position and he's below her. Which is true in her head, want to or not ; everyone is below the Control Devil. Something that dooms her to not have a meaningful connection with anyone.
When Makima actually looks someone in the eye, does it even count, if she can never see them?
