SPORILERS FOR ANDOR S2
Rebel!AU
Events on Ghorman took a different turn. Syril survived and made a deal that would change not only his but also Dedra's life. Losing control of everything made Dedra weaker than ever, but there's still one thing that keeps her sane.
I'm rewatching Andor with my friend and today we had meet your mother-in-law part and I don't know what I'm more obsessed with. How good is that black outfit and how gracefully she walks on these heels, or the way she speaks with expressions the whole time.
Andor Season 2 Episodes 5 /// Andor Season 2 Episodes 12
Tony Gilroy talking about Syril and Dedra, casting Kyle Soller and Denise Gough
There is something uncanny, cringey, lonely, messed up, interesting about their characters, made some angsty sketches of them. Villain couple
If Dedra was a man, she would have been a Grand Admiral by now, but since she's a woman, and that hurts fragile male egos, she was always neglected by men in power, despite being right all the time.
Why I think so?
Look at Thrawn. Even being an alien in racist hierarchy wasn't as bad as being a woman. He was about to face court-martial because of the Dromedar incident, but Yuralen himself was showing him off to all the important people on Coruscant to soften his image, which led to his charges being dropped. AND HE GOT PROMOTED AFTER THAT TO CAPTAIN.
Also, this guy was literally "scavenging" information to find out what is the secret military project (Stardust) the Empire is working on. On top of that this guy DEMANDED FROM PALPATINE HIMSELF to know about Death Star, AND STILL GOT PROMOTED TO GRAND ADMIRAL.
He was always taken seriously, got an out of jail card from court-martial by just networking AND BEING TAKEN SERIOUSLY), his personal investigations weren't seen as an act of treason (even though Thrawn's allegiance was to Chiss Ascendancy first and foremost) and HE EVEN GOT AWAY WITH SENDING AN IMPERIAL OFFICER TO SERVE IN CHISS EXPANSIONARY DEFENSE FLEET
Dedra was the most loyal and competent member they ever had, working for the benefit of the Empire, and because no one took her seriously, it literally led to their own fall.
If she was allowed to stay on Axis, instead of taking Ghorman I don't think rebels would have enough room, and luck to successfully hide from her.
Sorry. I was just thinking about it for a while and how the meme "Dedra wanted a promotion" led to the "Fell of the Galactic Empire" was actually true. Krennic didn't listen to her last advice on how to capture Kleya, and the rest is history.
An addendum I have thought about since her confrontation with Krennic: the men around her feel so comfortable not just belittling her (save for Partagaz, who was the only one who took her seriously —though he too made a comment or two on her supposed emotionality) but enacting close, intimate violence on her. Syril choked her. Krennic put his hands on her face and forcefully sat her down. He would have never done such a thing to Heert or any other man, no matter how below him in rank. Yes, the Empire is bad, duh. But let us never forget that gender-based violence exists even in the most organized and sterile of hierarchies. And I have seen a lot of leftist men —shocking— justifying that type of violence.
Dedra can't raise her voice while she's against something, but Krennic can make a whole spectacle of anger and won't be called "Too emotional" or "Too animated".
alternative universe where everything is peaceful and they have a nice meal in those stupid little tie thingy
The way he looks directly at the camera after he knows what he’s done. @hegodamask for the brilliant gif!
Boop!

Dedra grew up in an Imperial Kinderblock and Krennic refers to her as a “scavenger”which I’m sure is also a reference as to where she originated from.
And in her desire for approval and acceptance by the system, she becomes part of its downfall because of its predatory nature, even though she doesn’t seem self-aware of this?
The need for control (which almost all the Imperials constantly reinforce and talk about even as they’re eating their own) is always their downfall.
