knowing that she will no longer grace us with her brilliance is devastating. mark was one of the kind and truly one of the most articulate, intelligent and beautiful people that i never ever had the chance to interact with. reading her blog and looking at her art is so inspirational, she was such a intelligent person who expressed herself in so little words but everything has had such a huge impact on me as a person. truly an inspiration.

Beloved artist and friend Mark Aguhar died March 12 at the age of 24. Aguhar was in her last semester in the M.F.A. program at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She moved to Chicago from Houston. A funeral Mass was held March 19 at St. Justin Martyr Catholic Church in Houston.
Aguhar was a visual and performance artist, poet, call-out queen, brother, sister, friend and so much more.
“[The week of Mark’s death] has been, without a doubt, monumentally life changing,” said Owen Daniel-McCarter at Aguhar’s memorial, which took place March 17 at the Roots & Culture Contemporary Art Center. “It’s been a week of profound tragedy, losing such a beautiful creature—someone that I personally considered a friend, an inspiration, a kindred spirit, a go-go dancer and a revolutionary.

Swing by The Charleston after the soft opening of Mark’s MFA show and celebrate a bel…oved queen. Powder your face and preen to tracks played by DJ Gonzo, Bonkers, The Lady Speedstick, and other lovely kids. All proceeds will be donated to Mark’s memorial fund. Celebrate love! Celebrate looks!
