Do It Yo Self.
A few days ago, I decided to walk around River City Trading Post to see if I could find anything interesting. After a little while, I stumbled across these fantastic prints from a local artist:
All of the prints were buy 2 get 1 free...so I picked up 3. Although the artist also sells framed prints, I decided that I wanted to put my own spin on the presentation. After quite a bit of searching, I found this old cabinet door for $4.00.
I used a screwdriver to detach the handle (I actually used a power tool. My Poppi would be proud), and then painted it. For the paint, I decided to make my own chalkboard paint (mostly because I like the matte finish). To make this paint, I mixed half a cup of acrylic paint with 1 Tablespoon of unsanded grout (which I found at Home Depot).
The paint was super easy to make AND extremely cheap. You should try it out for yourself!
Next, I painted the cabinet door with my chalkboard paint mixture.
(No worries. The bottom left corner was still drying...but it looks like I missed a huge spot.)
After letting it dry for about an hour, I applied a thin layer of glue to the places I wanted to mount the prints. To avoid bubbles, I started from the center of the print and pressed outwards toward the edges until the paper was flat on the surface.
BOOM! I'm currently on the lookout for colorful, unique cabinet knobs to put on the bottom of the frame to hang necklaces and such...but this is what I have so far! I'm quite pleased with how it turned out. Not too shabby. Before I leave you, I must give you an assignment. Right now, before you do anything else, go listen to the EP by Daughter called "His Young Heart." You will love it. Seriously. Go listen. Have a wonderful weekend!
