Lucy's Impact on Natsu(NaLu Analysis 01)

It has been established from time to time that Natsu and Happy are the closest people to Lucy. But people tend to debate a lot about Natsu holding Lucy as his closest(and also Happy). He met Lucy way later than the others yet she quickly made her special place in his heart.

He feels relaxed around her, he thinks she's nice and it was really thoughful of him to bring her pink dumbells so that she starts training with them. He stated in the last season that Anna and Lucy smell alike so feels comfortable around Lucy. People who interprete this sentence as "NATSU ONLY LIKES LUCY BECAUSE SHE SMELLS LIKE ANNA." are enough dumb who don't even try to understand the context.

Anna is Lucy's ancestor and as per Natsu himself, they both smell the same. It means he likes their positive aura, he likes the personalities these Heartfilia ladies have. Both of them are Celestial mages who love their spirits, smart, kind and loveable. He loved this personality back when he was young(400 years ago) and he loved Lucy's personality in present time. That leads to him initiating a lot of interactions with her even when she's not some sorta rival like Gray and Erza.

We all know that Natsu has a somewhat idiotic and forgetful personality. He tends to forget what he said or did before. Him remembering the day Lucy joined Fairy Tail is no less than the sweetest thing in the universe. Even if we do assume that Happy reminded him of the day, it doesn't change the fact that he cherishes the day in his life and mentioned it as her birthday and wanted to go on a job with her.

When she said she had a date so she can't go with them, he reaction was clearly a very dissapointed one. He could've gone without her happily because he's a strong boy who can protect his ass without her(she wasn't even that strong back then).

In the Rainbow Sakura Cherry Blossom Festival which comes only once in a year, Natsu instead of enjoying the party like the rest of the team and others the guild, was sulking like a child just because Lucy wasn't with them. He and Happy even went to pick her at her house. The boy literally was upset the whole time and didn't even smike for once. He uprooted the entire Sakura tree just for Lucy to see. Lucy was a completely a new friend for him compared to Happy Erza, Gray and Wendy.

So what if he would've done that for Gray or Erza(not necessarily)? They're his close friends from the time he joined the guild. But Lucy? It had only been less than 1 year she met him and he already uprooted the tree for her which was a prized possession of Magnolia.

Not to mention this panel, this reminds me of the time he was acting very concerned for Erza when she was arrested by the council. The state of his mind was somewhat different this time. When Erza was arrested, he was calmer than this time, he literally hatched a plan to escape the guild and free Erza by taking her place(idiotic plan lol). But this time they literally had to tie him down because he was freaking out without even thinking how his actions would cause trouble.

He straight forward said the word "PRECIOUS" and I'm not saying that Lucy is the only one in fact he loves his family more than his life but it's a matter of fact that he outright stated she's precious to him when he could've said something like "HOW DARE YOU DO THAT TO LUCY/WHY DID YOU TAKE HER LIFE" but no he said something differently.

And this scene, it was something which separated Lucy's status from Natsu's friends to someone closer. Even Happy, who's the closest to Natsu couldn't tell that he had been acting differently. He was not in control of himself and was talking about burning everything. Erza, Gray, Wendy were happy from him but only Lucy understood something was off about him and calmed him down. She was seriously hurt by the growing fire of Natsu(her StarDress was burnt) yet she didn't care about that. She was concerned about Natsu and she jept thinking about that later.

Zeref mentions Lucy and Happy like he's emphasizing on their importance particularly. If we assume that he was enphasizing on Lucy just because she's Anna's descendant then Erza's should be the same because she's Irene's daughter and Happy's name should also be said like "Happy, Erza, Wendy, Gajeel....." So if Happy gets more importance in Natsu's life according to Zeref then why did he describe Lucy like Happy(putting more significance in words). Zeref said he knows all about his major opponents.

Not to mention this panel lol. People were hitting on Lucy and Natsu burned them. His reactions were pretty much stating that he knew he was pissed at those boys and he even burned the exceeds and Lucy's clothes in the process. He could've ignored that because as long as Lucy was safe, it didn't matter whether people hit on her or not.

We all are familiar with this picture right? Yes, we are. Many people saying that Natsu was on a date with Lucy and he was having a flashback. But no, I think he was having these moments in his head which didn't happen but most likely he wants them to happen/imagines them like this. He was seeing Mira and Lisanna like they always act- Lisanna being a sweet friend and Mira doing bar chores. He saw Erza and Gray acting like usual- Erza patting him on the head or something and Gray was like saying something being annoyed at him. Wendy was also as usual, sweet and brightly smiling. But he didn't see Lucy doing something as usual. She was holding his hand and dragging him with her to some place. He didn't even see Happy flying above their head. So, we can't possibly say he was on a normal job with her without Happy. Because even in his crucial moments, he didn't abandon Happy. The colour palette was different than others and he was imagining her in a beautiful white dress which she normally doesn't wear, her earrings were also different than her usual ones. She was somewhat leaning closer to him and smiling brightly.

She has a really strong and great impact on him and it's getting more obvious day by day. At their current relationship level, any negative or positive thing can trigger him to act on his feelings(like Juvina played a positive role in making Gray admit he wants to get Juvia no matter what, not saying something will bring out Natsu's feelings easily but it was just an example). Not to mention he has something to tell her after this job and he said "Cause we'll be together forever" to Lucy alone.

Senku and affection evolution

Up to this point we got few moments with Senku reactiong towards affection given to him by others. While they look kinda similar, they also look different because of Senku’s different mindsets and moral reasons. Let’s see all those moments :D

Senku was surprised by Taiju jumping to hug him but even if he was surprised he still could react and prevent that. Well his other reason like Taiju being naked is also valid because it would be uncomfortable haha Senku also has no remorse in kicking Taiju to protect himself.

Yeah Senku wasn’t ready to be squicked few second after coming back from the dead. While Taiju seems like gentle hugger he would also almost destroy you if he is excited while hugging XD This time kick with all force haha

Senku literally sensed mushy moment coming and potential of Taiju hugging him higher than even. He was able to dodge the hug is really smooth way ;D Senku really is more ready to give affection with hand by doing high five or pat head or shoulder. Plus to Yuzuriha for knowing that Senku doesn’t like to be touched and soft look is way better.

Here Senku wasn’t ready to be hugged and because he is sorcery gentleman he couldn’t bring himself to kick Amaryllis away from him. Damn he really is holding it in! He is just step away from losing it haha. Luckily Senku’s disgusted aura was enough for girl to back off XD Senku is just too kind. He would kick a man in this situation. We saw that with Taiju. Senku drinks respect women juice. He would never hit or look down on woman.

Senku WAS NOT ready for a kiss from Kohaku. Actually good for Kohaku that she kissed him close to lips but not on the lips. She held back because she knows Senku isn’t into mushy stuff or she really wanted to but dodged in last second. But I think Kohaku was really determined here. She saw chance of giving Senku another clue about liking him. She really kissed him with passion. Kohaku probably expected Senku to enjoy that at least a bit but when she saw his face she probably felt a bit offended. She wasn’t mad at Senku after this. I mean this was still against Senku’s will. Senku not only doesn’t like affection but probably feels horrible getting forced affection on him. He probably thought Kohaku is forcing herself on him while she saw chance in this and failed. Still it’s better to look for occasions when Senku knows intentions of other person.

Now this act of affection Senku took like a champ! I love his soft look. It’s sign of Senku being relaxed and that’s really good. Smile is another sign of being comfortable. I would even dare to say that Senku was EXPECTING affection from Kohaku. Kohaku was coming towards him slowly. Senku probably knew what was coming and he trusted Kohaku. Then Kohaku remembered to not go too far again but take proper step this time. She hugged him with passion but in gentle way at the same time. Senku is still knew to mushy stuff. He couldn’t bring himself to return that hug. Only his eyes can tell us that he is actually enjoying this act of affection. I would like to point out that Kohaku felt confident enought to help Senku return her affection. In normal hugs people get around torso or shoulders. Kohaku touched Senku’s back of the neck and gently leaned him on her head. Senku trusted her and let her do that. And of course Senku was worried for Kohaku. He missed her. She almost died there. Senku was really happy seeing her again.

Omg Senku and Kohaku really took their time and this hug really wasn’t short at all and was just going and going while others started talking XD I stan shipper Kirisame. She really gets mushy inside seeing lovely couples ;D

Conclusion - Senku was really triggered when he heard about Kohaku almost dying. Maybe that moved something inside him and how he view Kohaku. I think we need one more arc to see Senku showing phisical affection towards Kohaku by hugging him on his terms or even kissing her or he would hug her and let Kohaku kiss him. Right now after this arc Senku will probably sort all of that in his brain. He needs some time for this. Next arc might be even more dangerous to get through alive so Senku will probably had revelation around that time.
