now im dont want to say say any two cents yet because im not trans myself and wouldnt know immediately upon being presented with the eggiest egg youve ever seen. but are there specific reasons you headcanon tenna as trans? or is it just vibes alone. both would be pretty based in all honestly but im genuinely curious to know why

!! I’d be happy to try and explain my thoughts on the matter a bit! While part of it is just “I think it would be fun if she was a woman”, I do also, at this point, wholeheartedly believe that headcanoning Tenna as a pre-transition trans woman works great for her textual writing. This explanation got pretty long, so I’ll put it all below the cut; I have a hard time gathering my thoughts on the matter, so apologies if this is kind of incoherent!

Tenna’s sense of identity and self-worth hinges so entirely on the premise of the lightners giving her purpose; being a useful object is effectively the only thing she as a darkner has been allowed to live for, and it’s the crux of what’s keeping her so trapped in the past even still. but maybe if she was allowed to move on, to have agency of her own and live a life outside of being someone else’s TV, there would be more room for her to carve out an identity for herself. and maybe realizing that she’s happier as a woman could be a part of this… ^_^

Tangentially, I also think there’s something to be said about pre-transition Tenna and how the ideal of a “big shot” that’s pushed onto her (which she sees as her key to relevancy and continued fulfillment of her purpose) is an inherently masculinizing one. Imagine that your entire sense of personhood is dependent on how useful you can be to another class of person, and the key to acquiring that success (and therefore relevancy) is being presented to you as taking on the role of a traditionally gender-conforming businessman. And you’re outright uncomfortable with certain aspects of that, but you’re also desperate… Spamton is what I’d consider a more traditionally gender-conformingly masculine character (especially considering things like his role in the Weird Route) compared to Tenna’s more flouncy, effeminate mannerisms, and if she sees his success as the key to her own, then of course she’d try to emulate that (even if it’s in opposition to her nature). She makes changes to her clothing and presentation during the tenure of their business partnership, not necessarily out of personal preference but rather as a means of attaining his miracle; if you want to get kind of metaphorical with your interpretation of that, you could say she’s darkner boymoding via emulating the presentation of a more traditionally masculine man, LOL.

That, and some more abstract stuff, like TV World’s cast of women and girls (aside from Elnina) all maintaining forms in which they’re non-metaphorically imprisoned… including a literal unhatched egg stowed away in a closet. An unhatched egg that Tenna considers one of her most shameful secrets, something she’s desperate to keep hidden away from people, fearing what judgement and disgust might be directed towards her if it’s unceremoniously outed to them. Obviously, in the context of the game itself, that shameful secret is “Tenna puts yucky stuff in the food”, but it’s fun to think of it in a more metaphorical way like that, too.

something that is left out a lot in discussion of the themes and such of deltarune is tobys real life disability. consider why a disabled person may be telling a story about a complex relationship and desire for freedom

most of the discussion i see about what freedom means in deltarune relates it back to gender and gender expression, which is obviously a very important part of dr, but i think there are other layers to it that aren't really being explored because it's less relatable to much of the audience.

just thinking about kris, i think there's a lot of ways their struggles can be interpreted as relating to disability. one example that seems particularly intentional is kris not being able to play the piano while under the soul's control and toby commenting about not being able to play the piano (among other things) due to pain.

we see in chapter 5 that kris can barely survive without the soul, but they also can't freely live their life how they want with it. they get to a point where they can barely move without it. they push themself beyond their limits to achieve what they can't when they're tied down by the soul. idk i kinda lost track of what i was saying here

basil from omori is low-key kinda based and real bc. like, if i had a best friend (who i low-key had kinda a crush on. honestly) who accidently committed manslaughter and killed his sister (which i offered to help him cover up) and he went silent and left me in the guilt and weight of the accident for four years straight and yet i still vouched for him (saying i wreaked a photo album which i didnt and getting the blunt from my friend aubrey who ends up tormenting me) only for him to come out of his house and be like “yea, im moving in three days,” id be on the news /lh /ref
