It was humiliating to admit that he was anxious about the smallest things. But what choice did he have? Podrick wasn’t fooling Sansa. If he had to tell someone, he supposed he was glad it was her and not anyone else. The gentle touch to his cheeks made him look her in the eyes. “I…” He was breathing heavily as he tried to speak. “I just… I can’t breathe…” The hand on his chest clenched around his clothes. Podrick was visibly sweating as he quickly turned away from her, not wanting her to see him in this state. “I… I can’t…”

Sansa looked at Podrick as he started to panic, she frowned as she looked at him. He couldn’t breath, she moved over and grabbed his face again and kissed him gently giving him something else to think about. Slowly she pulled back and looked at him hoping to see he’d calmed down.

The kiss caught Podrick completely off-guard, and he felt his breath hitch in his throat before Sansa pulled away. He exhaled sharply, staring at her with wide eyes, a hand coming up to tug at the collar of his shirt. He wasn’t sure what to do or say, but at least he could breathe now, although his breaths were short and fast. “I…” He paused, unsure of what to say or do. “I…” He was at a loss of words. “You kissed me.”

Podrick had experienced plenty of panic attacks in his life, but he’d never witnessed someone else having one. Rushing forward, he stared into Jaime’s eyes. “Hey… look at me.” He was normally shy around the Lannisters, but this was an exception. “Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth, ser… it will be okay.”

Oh, he understood completely. Well, not fully; Podrick had never experienced the loss of a sibling, let alone a twin sibling who he’d fallen for. “It is okay,” he said softly, changing from patting his back to rubbing it. “I know… just focus on breathing.”

Now, Podrick was in the same situation. Bruises lined his face. He could barely see out of one eye, and there was blood pouring out of his nose. He was lying down on the ground, coughing. The last thing he wanted was for Aethelflaed to see him like this. Unfortunately, she had stumbled upon him, and Podrick looked up at her, biting his lip. “Did he… did he hurt you, too?”

          She had been at the church with her father, she had been looking for Podrick for a while because she had not seen him for most of the day, her favorite part of her visit to Wessex was spending time with him. However, as she was about to pass an aisle she caught a glimpse of him in the distance, she immediately approached him and was taken aback to see him so hurt. ❝——N-No… I haven’t seen him today, I’ve been with my father most of the time❞ it broke her heart to know that her husband was the cause of that. ❝I’m so sorry, Podrick. I never meant for this to happen to you❞ tears ran down her cheeks, how could he be beaten for being a magnanimous person to her. She tore her dress to rip a piece of cloth and wipe the blood coming out of his nose, she felt terrible to see how he was, she would talk to her husband later.

She couldn’t blame herself. Aethelflaed had to know that this wasn’t her fault. No, this was all on Aethelred. He was a shitty husband and an even shittier excuse of a human being. Podrick was okay with being hurt, but he was afraid that the man would hurt Aethelflaed. That would be crossing the line. “Hey… I know you didn’t,” he murmured softly, closing his eyes temporarily. “It’s not your fault.” Seeing her rip her own dress set off alarm bells in his mind — that dress had probably cost her a fortune! But it was too late; it was done. He groaned in slight pain as she wiped his nose, but he felt better after it was done. “Aethelflaed… come here,” he whispered, holding a shaky hand out to her. “Please…”

          A war was reflected, several men from Mercia and Wessex were sent when the Danes were taking a city. She was there because her husband did not trust a single moment to leave her alone. She watched him in the distance, arguing with Uhtred over surely some plan that they would come to no agreement on. She had gotten up to walk around a bit, she needed air and hopefully to find some food because she was starving. She felt a presence beside her and smiled when she saw Podrick. ❝——I think you do enough for coming to fight❞ she really admired that he was a great warrior. “But if you really want to help, let’s find something to eat” she indicated, any excuse to escape her husband for as long as possible.

As much as he hated to admit it to himself, Podrick had to face the facts: he’d fallen in love with Aethelflaed. It was a forbidden romance, of course, considering she was royalty and married, but that didn’t matter. Nothing would come out of it, anyway. Still, he’d protect her at all costs — he couldn’t get her off his mind. He nodded respectfully. “Of course, m’lady.” He gave a worried glance towards Aethelred. He didn’t want to face the man’s wrath if they got caught. But he’d do anything for Aethelflaed, so he nodded. “I only worry that your husband will…” He didn’t finish that sentence. He couldn’t. “If he finds out…”

Podrick was hesitant to do anything else, but he patted Jaime on the back despite his fear of being too forward. “Do not worry. You are safe, I promise.” He understood completely; he had panic attacks all the time, but he’d never expected to be the one comforting someone else.

Everything had simply gotten too overwhelming, and she’d walked in on him having a panic attack. Her soothing voice helped to calm him down, and the fingers running through his hair made him relax, breathing heavily as he recovered. “I-I’m sorry…” His chest rose and fell quickly, and he wiped a tear from his cheek. “This… this is so unprofessional…”

It was Podrick’s first ever kill. He had done it to save Tyrion Lannister, the man who no one expected would survive the battle. Podrick would have saved him a thousand times over, but it came at a steep price. Every time he closed his eyes, he would see the man’s blood pouring out of him, his sword plunging through the armor. He was crying silently as Mariela gently wiped the blood from his face. He didn’t say a word; he couldn’t. He was a horrible person and a murderer… he hated himself for it.

He stayed as still as he could, eyes closing as she wiped his face with the warm cloth. It was comforting, in a way, but it did mouthing to calm Podrick’s anxiety. His heart was racing. He couldn’t believe he’d killed a man. Oh, gods, what had he done?

Podrick’s eyes opened as she spoke. It wasn’t his fault? How was it not his fault? No one had forced the sword into the man’s flesh; he had done it all on his own. He looked down at his hands, relaxing slightly as the warm cloth wiped them. “I appreciate that, m’lady.” But he disagreed with it entirely. “I just… it… it’s overwhelming,” he stammered.

He was worried about Jaime. Something had definitely changed within the man lately, and not for the better. Podrick put his hand on top of Jaime’s and looked him in the eyes. “Take a deep breath, m’lord. You are strong; you will make it through this.”

          Many times (or most of the time) she wanted to scream, she wanted to be able to express what was going on with her but there was only one person who really knew what was going on. It was hard to stay stable when she wasn’t happy. She kept thinking it was her duty as his wife and internally she was broken. She heard people from her husband talking about how he should put her in her place, that she was just a woman. She had no voice or vote, she only served to please the Lord of Mercia and give him children. Every day to visit her father and show that she was well was not easy, especially when her body showed the marks her husband left on her when he beat her. She found herself in the gardens at night, thinking that no one else was there. Tears were streaming down her face, she quite liked going there when she was a child, it had all changed in the blink of an eye. She felt someone sitting next to her and smiled very lightly feeling them wiping her tears away, she ended up laying her head on his shoulder. ❝——The pain will pass, won’t it?❞ she asked between sobs.

He found her in the gardens, all alone, tears streaming down her fair cheeks as she put her face in her hands. Podrick had seen Æthelflæd upset a lot recently. He wanted to be there for her no matter what, but if her husband spotted him, he wouldn’t hesitate to threaten him. What Podrick didn’t tell her was that Aethelred had already spoken to him sternly about spending too much time with Æthelflæd. The man didn’t scare him; only a coward would hit a woman and threaten the man comforting her. Slowly, Podrick sat down, and hesitantly, he wiped a tear from her cheek. Such a beautiful woman should never be so upset, especially not by her husband. Podrick put his arm around her when her head came to a rest on his shoulder. “Yes, m’lady,” he whispered, fingertips gently stroking her soft skin. “You will be alright, I promise.” But not even he could promise that.

Taking a deep breath, Podrick tried to compose himself from the anxiety attack he’d had just moments before she’d entered the room. “I… I’m alright,” he lied, a hand placed upon his chest to calm his breathing. “I… it’s a minor heartburn, my lady.”

Sansa moved closer to him and cupped his face as he once again lied to her. She looked into his eyes and sighed. “Podrick, please talk to me.” She said gently. “Heartburn, I don’t think it is, what is it?” She asked in a soft gentle voice trying to find out what exactly it was that had poor Podrick struggling.
