"Speed Bumps Need An Overhaul" article by Rob Klevan
Speed bumps have positive and negative. Speed bumps are a good solution but need to have some limitations and modification:
1. More visible, especially at night!
2. Speed bumps should be graduated.
What have we learned?
The main concern is safety on campus. The speed bumps limit traffic on campus. The campus wants to become more pedestrian/bike friendly like other CSU campuses. Although this is a good idea, their is no clear plan for this change. The speed bumps make it inconvenient for students. As we learned more about the purpose of the speed bumps, we understood that the speed bumps are meant to be a inconvenience so that students, faculty, and community members driving through campus are more aware and safe while driving. The goal of the speed bumps is to direct traffic so that future changes on campus can take place and prepare for more traffic.
Final thoughts:
The speed bumps are just the beginning. The school is still under expansion and the goal is to create a pedestrian friendly campus.

Rivalry between districts? - We hope there will not be any rivalry between districts? There are discrepancies between districts (races, money, population, etc) Standardized testing = sad representation of your knowledge There should be more of a plan and structure of where the money should be distributed. The more impoverished children should get more money than the ones who are more affluent. Some disparities may begin with the lack of resources and help for teachers in ratio to the number of students they have. Will it solve our debts? - Yes, it can. It is going towards the right direction. It will help grades and graduation rated. - This money can also cut classes; this would definitely be helpful

Group Updates & Next Steps
Team Maks:
Today Kayce Dalton and myself met with Megan Tolbert and Bob Rench. I wanted you to be aware of the outcome since I cannot make it to class on Friday. As we talked we realized there was a common theme, many students do not see the "bigger picture" of what are campus will look like in the future. As the campus stands we are only 50% complete and as we move forward with construction of the campus, roads will be completely shut down and not accessible to cars . The intersection where the class wants to petition will be closed in the next couple of years as well as Divarity Road. She said we could petition as much as we want but the position stands because of future projects. Tolbert and Rench both stated "Stop signs are considered a way of controlling direction not speed." Also the concern of the speed bumps is not to make it easier for cars, it is suppose to be an inconvenience to slow down cars and create a safer environment for cyclist and pedestrians. All in all the speed humps are put in place for both increase traffic with the opening of the road but more with the future construction of the campus. I can discuss this with you more tomorrow.

Class 11 Strand 3: Action Planning
The Strand 3 Skill Utilization Dialogue Facilitators are responsible for the planning phase of our action. My suggestion is that one person facilitate steps 1 & 2 of the attached and another steps 3 & 4.
The reporter for steps 1 & 2 can type straight into the doc that I will put on google docs. For steps 3 & 4, each stakeholder group should have a recorder who types the groups info into their google doc. I will provide post-its to help with the planning that takes place during steps 3 & 4. The most important things for the step 1 & 2 facilitator to do is help the group to identify 5 different stakeholder groups that make sense given our goal and who has power or a vested interest in the outcome. Then that person will need to make sure that everyone gets placed into one of the five working groups to carry out the action project. The most important things for the step 3 & 4 facilitator to do is to make sure the groups think through the steps necessary to achieve their action goal and then facilitate the sharing of each groups 'work.

Activities - Team Smack (facilitators)
Once a goal has been identified and targets/influentials listed, it is time to begin strategizing.
From trainingforchange.org:
Paper Plate Challenge
Campaigns don't win all at once - they win through taking successful steps. Being able to break down the steps towards winning is a key skill for successful strategizing. This tool gives participants challenge and practice in setting stepping stones along the way and sequencing those to lead to a win.

Lobbying Tools
Lobbying: is becoming a decision maker that aims to persuade people with power to support your agenda. Why they aim to persuade people with power to support their agenda so they can change the policy. How by using strategic planning by identifying the target. Lobbying Tools use correct addresses, type letters, be personal, short and sweet, don't be negative, be thankful. #teamsmack
