He does love him to bits,, Paul is just awkward sometimes.

Difference is that Hugh would actually tell Paul to shut up sometimes (gently, of course). Adira would never dare to, even though Paul would not be angry at them if they did. He'd actually listen to them, maybe even more so than to Hugh.

Headcanon

After Hugh's resurrection, Paul tells him 'I love you' at least once per day. In Hugh's death, he said that he felt like he didn't say it enough; so now that he has a second chance, even though Hugh said he knew, Paul still wants to affirm it.

Usually at very random or awkward moments. After all, being vocal about his feelings isn't really something Paul is used to. But he wants to tell Hugh at least once per day, because they learned that life is fragile and he wants to be sure that Hugh knows how much he loves him.
