Character from the animated feature film I am working on, The Cadence. Paper, book cloth, fabric, thread, glue, cardboard, tape, feather.
Dear friends and supporters, It has been almost two years since I started working on my first animated feature, The Cadence, and there's still a lot of work in front of me. But a website for the film exists now for you to look at, with more info, and a first trailer: www.thecadencemovie.com I am really excited to be collaborating with Father Murphy again. The Cadence will be a film without dialogue, and the soundtrack by Father Murphy will engage in a constant exchange with the images, carrying them and re-creating them. This project is extremely time consuming, a labor of love pervaded by a strong Do-It-Yourself ethic and aesthetic. If you like our work and want to keep us going, you can make a donation by clicking on the Donate button in the menu. Every little thing helps. To follow the making of The Cadence, keep checking back on the website: we will periodically post updates, images, sound and video clips. Thanks for reading, and for your support.
Artist and animator Tess Martin interviews me about my work, Paper Circus, the collaboration with Father Murphy, and our forthcoming feature film The Cadence. You can read our conversation on Haptic Animation Amplifier.
If you missed the TV broadcast of Paper Circus, the 50 minutes film compiling my animated short from 2012 to 2014 with the soundtrack by Father Murphy, it’s still available (for a week) on the Rai3 channel’s website for streaming: http://www.raiplay.it/video/2016/09/Paper-Circus-9449884b-8520-4d4a-b324-478e47595e44.html
Paper Circus, a selection of my animated short films organized in a 50 minutes narrative sequence with the soundtrack of Father Murphy, will be broadcast on Italian national television in the night between September 25 and 26. It’s the first TV appearance of my work, and I am honored to be part of the show Fuori Orario cose (mai) viste on the Rai3 channel. Like many Italians, I grew up with Fuori Orario. The opening titles, with Patti Smith’s Because The Night playing over images of L’Atalante by Jean Vigo, are a sort of generational marker.
Paper Circus will be shown with a never-heard-before soundtrack, mixed by Father Murphy using studio and live recordings of the shows we have been presenting in movie theaters and galleries since 2014.
The show will also be viewable in streaming on the network's website: http://www.raiplay.it/dirette/ rai3
The 6th issue of my art zine Das Ding is available through The Walk. Chirologia is a series of drawings inspired by, and appropriating, John Bulwer's Chirologia: Or the Naturall Language of the Hand (London, Thomas Harper, 1644). An itinerary through gestures that conceal, dissimulate, silence. Get a copy HERE.
I have a few screen printed t-shirts left from my Italian Paper Circus film tour. White image on black t-shirt (District). Once they’re gone, they’re gone.
They are available through The Walk: https://thisiscalledthewalk.wordpress.com/apparel/
Dear friends,
Finally, we are bringing Paper Circus to Italy. Father Murphy and I will perform a live soundtrack to the screening of some of my animated films in movie theaters and galleries in Udine, Perugia, Torino, Genova, Milano, Bologna. Six shows in six days. Dates and details below. Thanks to wakeupandream promotion and booking and to Father Murphy for all the work in setting up this tour.
I hope to see you at one of the shows.

I have a screening of two of my animated films coming up. It’s in Seattle, at the Local Sightings Film Festival, within the Pacific Northwest Animation Showcase. The Beautiful Soul is playing on Wednesday, September 30th, and Acrobati on Thursday, October 1, together with other great shorts from Pacific Northwest-based filmmakers.
Stills from my first feature animation, The Cadence. Work in progress.
Indiegogo campaign coming soon.
My animated short A Purpose is one of the twelve Italian films that will be screening at the 50th edition of the prestigious Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, together with works by Paolo and Vittorio Taviani, Matteo Garrone, Saverio Costanzo, Paolo Sorrentino and others.
In the remote possibility that you’ll be in the beautiful town of Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic, from July 3 to July 11, there are three chances of watching A Purpose on a big screen. More details here.
A Purpose is a video for the Father Murphy’s song with the same name, and also a segment of my forthcoming animated feature The Cadence, for which Father Murphy are recording the soundtrack.
In September, we will launch an Indiegogo campaign to finance the making of The Cadence, and we'll need all the help we can get from you to spread the word. I'll keep you updated.
I have a new art booklet out, called Hoimé! Aiuto! Spiriti! Demoni! Larve!
It’s available now through The Walk. Get a copy here for only $6.
I have been making a bunch of marker drawings/sketches for the animated feature I am currently working on. This booklet collects a few of them, a sort of tribute to the Commedia dell’arte.
Animation for the song A Purpose by Father Murphy, from their album Croce (The Flenser, 2015). Music by Father Murphy. Art and animation by me.
This is a segment taken from my first animated feature, The Cadence, a project I have been working on for a while, and that I am planning to finish sometime in 2016. I am excited to have my friends and collaborators and musical heroes Father Murphy working on the soundtrack with me.
New illustrations.
