Daisy wasn’t much for bars but there was little to nothing that she could do in the town and therefore she found herself there sometimes. Maybe that’s where she was going to meet her soulmate instead of the picturesque parks she loved. The girl wasn’t paying attention to her surroundings, only barely catching his sentence. “Yeah, it is taken. By me.”
“Don’t think I asked you to join me.” He moved his newspaper, eyes briefly glancing at the person invading his space. Someone who looked almost half his age, Jesus. Wasn’t there a beach or something nearby she could go to instead of bothering him. While he waited for his lunch. Alone. “What do you want?”
There were people everywhere. At the bars, at the cafes, at the hotels, the streets, the beach. Just...everywhere. He honestly thought it might be better to hole up in his room the whole time he was there if he wanted some sanity. Shame, since he had actual work to do that required him to actually partake in Aphrodite’s Cove’s society. This cafe, short on seating, was a hole in the wall that he walked into a little after twelve. And Lucas already discovered, after ordering, that it was a popular hole in the wall. Damn.
“Seat’s taken already. Move on.”
maya didn’t hesitate to loosely put a hand on a stranger’s shoulder as they began strolling past, giving them an appraising look before breaking into a smile and grabbing a piece of cloth from the table she had taken over and holding it up next to their face. “this color would look so good on you, it really makes your eyes pop.”
Caught between the points of slightly outraged at being stopped and slightly insulted at the color choice, Lucas looked disbelievingly at the girl. “Wha-- is that peach?”
“—Hey. You don’t happen to know where the nearest 24-hour coffee shop is, do you? I need my 2 AM espresso.”
“Sorry-- not a local. I get mine from the complimentary coffee pot in the hotel lobby. It’s terrible, to be honest.”
