Riley Matthews was not a jealous person.

That being said, she did have certain tirades that could be interpreted as jealousy, but that in itself, did not make her a constantly jealous person.

Especially when it came to a boy.

So, what was this fury turning in her stomach? What was this ire clawing deep inside her, threatening to release itself, and onto the likes of Missy Bradford?

And all for Farkle?

Something was very, very wrong.

It’s not like she actually had feelings for him. No way, he was her best friend. That was it. Totally.

Never mind the butterflies she’d started to feel, whenever she looked into those eyes of his. And it definitely didn’t make her feel all warm and fuzzy, when he called her ‘princess’ or ‘darling.’

She sucked in a sharp breath.

Oh, god.

“Look, Missy, I’m totally flattered,” Farkle began, although his facial expressions told otherwise. “But I’m just not- how do the kids say it, these days? Into you.”

Missy gave him a befuddled look. “Don’t be silly, of course you are.” She winked at him, sliding down on the seat adjacent to Farkle’s.

“No, I’m quite positive I’m not.” Farkle pressed, and Riley smirked (which was a very un-Riley thing to do).

“You heard him, Bradford.” Riley added, in what she hoped was a strong tone. Missy narrowed her eyes at the brunette.

“That’s funny, I don’t recall asking for your opinion, Matthews.” She sniped.

“You know what I do recall, Missy?” Riley said, the ugly, green monster rearing its head. “Farkle saying no. I hate to burst your bubble, but the entire world is not playing hard-to-get.”

Missy seemed ready to retort, but before she could, Farkle stood. “She’s right. And we’re leaving.” He grinned at Riley, extending an arm. “M’lady?”

Riley smiled, and instead of interlocking their arms, she laced their fingers. Farkle looked down at their hands, somewhat surreally.

“C’mon.” Riley said, gently tugging him towards an ice cream shop. “I’m in the mood for a sundae. Although,” she turned to him, frowning. “I only have enough money for one. We’ll have to share.”

Farkle gave her a mischievous look.

“All the better.”

Leaves gently falling, autumn sun peeking behind a building, and Farkle looking at her like she was his entire world, it occurred to Riley that maybe falling wasn’t all that bad.
