In With A Bang || Lucinda & Benjy

Things had not gotten any better, but at least they were not getting any worse. It was like everyone and everything was at a standstill, and Benjyâs least favorite thing was standing still. There was only so much he could do while not being âofficiallyâ (there was nothing official about their current government) back at work, but since being out in the open was less risky for him than it was for so many other order members, Benjy did his best to help where he could. Today had been helping restock some ingredients for potions. Lily had given him a list of ingredients that were not found with normal suppliers, and that was why he had found himself right at the edge of Knockturn Alley.Â
While he would be safe if he were to step foot into the alley, with his grandfatherâs shoppe down the road, Benjy preferred not to push his luck. Instead he focused on the task at hand, glad that he had managed to get everything he got distracted being proud of himself and failed to see the person about to come through the door. âOwâ Benjy let out an involuntary sound of pain, his injuries while in the process of healing still hurt when he moved funny, âoh no worriesâ he immediately said, âand donât worry nothingâs brokenâ he said shaking the packaged, âwait I probably shouldnât have done thatâ he laughed. Benjy smiled when he realized it was Lucinda, while he had been closer to Eve, he always believed Lucinda was really cool. âHey Lu, itâs been a while uh?â they had known each other since Benjy was little, but it had been in his older years when he had seen her more often as he would show up with silly injuries after spells gone wrong. âseriously everythingâs fine, donât worry. Are you alright? Iâm done for the day if you want company running errands and whatnotâŠâ he offered with a smile.Â
There were a great number of people who would have been less than kind about their collision, but she never would have expected anything else from Benjy. Something about his innate kindness both warmed her and broke something inside of her at the same time. She refused to allow the broken part surface today and expose her own inner wounds or the growing cracks in her own family. She was raised far better than that. âWell, Iâm relieved I didnât break anything, but clearly I hurt you, and Iâm sorry.â She glanced around the shop sheâd entered blindly to avoid being spotted by her sister and recognized where she was eyeing Benjyâs bag. âNo, that may not have been the smartest check, but Iâm glad itâs all intact.âÂ
She considered the size of the bag as she raised an eyebrow. She was much too tempted to take him up on his offer of the company rather than be left to her own devices. âYouâre done? It seems like you might be just beginning or youâre simply more neglectful of your supply closet than even me.â She rocked back on her heels with a small sigh and a shrug, âTruth be told, I donât actually have any plans to see to the sad state of my storage cupboard. Home is more a place I grab a few hours of sleep before going back to St. Mungoâs than have time for any actual developing anything. If youâve got time I could use some ice cream. Well, I could use a drink, but this time of day ice cream seems like a much healthier option.âÂ
