Me? Well, the Blacks tend to name their children after stars or constellations and I thought perhaps we could… considering it appears that. Well. That the tradition is unlikely to continue otherwise.
The Blacks... [he pauses for a moment, brown knitting; he had thought about the effect on the family, of course, but this was the first time he was hearing it in such a context–– applying to them, their own little family, and the generations that were to come] There’s always Bellatrix, too.

[she sighs, and shakes her head, because a very small, reasonable, part of her recognises that the comments had probably been good-natured and a comment on the baby’s growth and impending due date, rather than strictly a comment about how attractive she is] I believe they thought it was a positive comment. I think perhaps I am simply not in the mood for this event tonight.
[he blinks at her in slight surprise, because pregnancy or no pregnancy, not being interested in a Valentine’s event is not in line with anything he thought he knew about her] I hadn’t realized, or I would have come to find you sooner. I would have made an effort to–– [he’s cut off for a moment because even though they’re at the edge of the room, people are still milling around them and all, even if they’re not speaking to them directly] Do you want to find somewhere quieter?

[she squeezes his arm, and then shuffles over slightly because there is just enough room for two in her nook if they squeeze in close.] Then it remains off limits. We can reassess later if it becomes appropriate - but I would not wish to plan to use it…
[he swallows hard and shakes his head, shifting up to hover beside her at the edge of the seat–– not wanting to take any room from her] How about you, then? Since you’ve been giving it thought.

[He makes it sound so logical that Sara can’t help but nod even though there’s some niggling protest in the back of her mind.] Th-the ones who committed the crimes a-a-absolutely deserve to be in prison, I agree. But, uhm, a-a-are they putting all of them in p-prison?
Honestly, I can’t believe that they weren’t there already. They clearly weren’t registered, which is ––by all technical accounts–– breaking the law.

[she shrugs] I believe all of the congratulations happened at Christmas time. Now it is only questions and comments about how much bigger I look.
[blinks in slight surprise because as a guy he’s just been offered extra cigars all night and had no idea that the cattiness of the women they hung out with extended to picking on pregnant women for changes they couldn’t help–– although he wonders if he’d feel differently if it wasn’t his wife and child in question] That doesn’t seem in the spirit of the holiday.

I have a few. I had not wanted to become too attached to anything without discussing it with you first. Do you want to repeat a family name?
It’s... [he trails off for a moment, revealing that there was more to the answer than there should have been] There’s nobody that I was close enough to other than my father. We have a tradition, though, of not repeating names of people who are still alive. But the way his health is going...

I j-j-just wish there was more we c-could do. For the f-families and t-to make sure nothing l-like this happens again.
[he nods as if he genuinely shares this concern] I think the roundup is a good start. Closure is so important, as is the fact that they’re relocating that pack. It isn’t as if they’re being put down --which I have opinions about, but that’s for another time-- or anything. They’ll be in prison which is a state-run institution. They’ll be far away from families and they’ll have both shelter and food for the rest of their lives, as well as a place they can’t break out of-- that’s better for themselves and for others. I don’t understand all the fuss in protest.

[she half rolls her eyes at his comment, but it also receives a small smile - just the barest hint of a tug at the corners or her lips] Very funny. You appear to be having a good time.
A better one now that I’ve found you but, yes, it’s been a lovely night. You don’t agree? I would have thought you were somewhere getting congratulated and interrogated.

Yes, and there are a great many things to go in it… when we have it repainted. I think it is lucky that we do not have to rely upon manual labour to live. But I was thinking moreso that, well. We have not yet discussed names.
[he sits back slightly so that he can properly look up in her direction; his eyes flicker over to the chair beside her and he knows he ought to pull himself up into it. it wasn’t as if he hadn’t given any thought to names, but he certainly hadn’t realized that it wasn’t a discussion they’d had together] I’m assuming you have thoughts on the subject? It’s also fortunate that we have a number of family trees on hand to leaf through.

princissa-black:
[despite having looked forward to Valentine’s, the events of the day had left Narcissa in less than a good mood at the McKinnon party. Standing off to the side in a dress that she considered to be ill-fitting (it was her fourth backup dress. She had forgotten to consider how her bump might change when having her dresses commissioned, and the other four had not fit at all) and frumpy (though it was really not so bad as it appeared in her head), and with swollen ankles and sore feet.
She had done her best to put on a happy face at the event, but she could not keep from feeling jealous that there were women out there who were not very pregnant and who could still talk to her husband (and had probably been able to wear their first choice of dress), or frustrated by having had to explain to various people that no - she and Lucius did not know the sex of their child - and deal with their attempts at advice, and so she had taken herself out of the way, just off to the side of the bar.]
If one more person tells me how wonderful the champagne is, they may find themselves wearing my fruit juice.
[Lucius, having extracted himself from a conversation with a trio of businessmen across the ballroom, had approached Narcissa once he found her again with a smile, but it faded just slightly when he caught her tone. He had been keeping her either on his arm or in his line of sight all night, but when he extracted herself to the shadows he had lost track of her for a bit–– it wasn’t a place he was used to seeing her and so not a place he’d thought to look until his other options were exhausted. As if on cue, he gently sets his glass of champagne down on a nearby empty table] I heard good things about the fruit orchards this year, actually.
rosmertanewport:
The door is right there, Lucius if you can not understand why you should mind.
[raps on the surface of the bar twice and straightens up with a polite smile, moving towards the door]

I am going to tell her he was killed on an assignment. I’ll take the fall, say had I been in better standing maybe I could have done something. She cannot know he was a traitor. No one will. I have his permission to keep that part of the story among only those that were in the room. [She’d normally be a bit surprised or suspicious that he is willing to let her handle this, but it’s not a point she’s going to argue now] A minor inconvenience is the least of my concerns right now, Lucius.
You’re going to–– lie to her face? Just lie to her about what happened? And to his parents? I don’t care whose permission you’ve got. He betrayed all of our trust, and what happened was nothing that you should feel compelled to bury. [he knits his brow and folds his arms across his chest] It needs to be considered, still.

[she nods, her hand moving down to rest on his arm] It does seem to be approaching rather quickly… and we still have so much to do…
[Lucius grins up at her, looking a bit childish probably, but it’s just because of the unfettered delight in his eyes; he looks over toward the door as if the dog will suddenly appear there (which wouldn’t be surprising, given the pup’s propensity for butting in on moments and making himself known)] There is likely not so much as it seems at the moment. The nursery is....well, there is one.

[shudders at the image his words put into her head, shrinking in on herself somewhat and curling her arms around her stomach in a protective gesture] I h-h-hadn’t thought of it like that. I’ve never met a w-w-werewolf, I guess I t-thought they’d be more, uhm, h-human when the moon w-wasn’t full? I d-didn’t realize how extensive the t-t-transformation was.
I’m going to be a father in a few months. I’d rather play it safe than be sorry later–– if it wasn’t extensive, would they have just ruined four families? Doesn’t sound human to me.
