The first thing, we need to see the origin of prostration. The prostration is known as the Namas Kara. which means “I bow to the divine in you”. It is a gesture used to show reverence to the triple gem of Buddhism: the Buddha, Dharma(his teaching) and Sangha (the spiritual community).
Prostration
According to the Buddha’s life story. He is said to have prostrate before his seat before he sat on the throne prior to his first sermon. After this, the custom of this prostration has continued till date. Buddha did it to suppress the ego, he might get after seating on the high seat. This is as far as our knowledge the first act of prostration in the history of Buddhism.
The word Namas-Kara means “I bow to inner Buddha nature in you”. The Buddha-nature means, “the wanting to be happy”. We all sentence beings want to be happy. Whatever we do, it is for happiness. This want is the first question towards the path of Buddha-hood and this is the first motivation wanting to achieve enlightenment.
The next question is, Are we on the right path? Do our actions lead us to real happiness? Most of the time, we are so much clinch to the temporary happiness which later becomes the source of suffering. So if we look closely with the nature of this Samsara. Samsara itself is a source of suffering. So the right path to go out of the samsara, which is pure happiness (Sachi Anand) is the path of Buddha.
In order to be on the path of Buddhism, one must take refuge to the three jewels of Buddhism. There are the Buddha(teacher), Dharma(his teaching) and Sangha( the community of devotees). This is the differentiating point between Buddhist and non-Buddhist. The motive behind this refuge is there is no real happiness in this Samsara. The real happiness is achieved at the stage of enlightenment. In order to achieve enlightenment, I am surrendering my body, mind, and soul to the three jewels of Buddhism.
The act of prostrating is an act of surrendering one’s body, mind, and soul to the three jewels of Buddhism. We prostrate before starting our day in the morning, and at the end of the day before sleeping, in front of the precious object of Dharma like the altar and temple, before doing any religious act.
While prostrating we recite mantras of choice. We do meditation while prostrating too. Reciting the mantra keeps our mind focus on the teaching of Buddha.
Prostration is also a great source of physical exercise. It helps improve the digestion system and balance of four elements in our body.
The benefits of Tibetan Buddhist prostration
when we prostrate, we seek to purify our delusions, negative karma. While prostrating we purify the bad karma and delusion and we generate positive merit.
Steps in prostration
Followings are steps in how to do a prostration?
First step: is folding of hand. your thumb should be placed inside your hand while making Namas Kara gesture.
Second step: would be, place the folded hand on your forehead. this gesture signifies the Body.
Third step: We will place our fold hand near our mouth, this gesture signifies the speech
Fourth step: We place our fold hand on the heart, this gesture signifies the soul.
Fifth step: is the prostration. this gesture signifies the surrenders above three.
Types of prostration
There are two types of prostration and there are full body and half body prostration. The full-body prostration is known as Kyang-Chag and half body prostration is called Kum-Chag. While doing the full-body prostration, we reach out to the length of our body thus lay fully on the floor. While making half body prostration, we bow down on our knee and place our head to the floor. The only difference is the space and time. When there is more space and more time we would do full body prostration and if there is less space and if we are in a hurry, then we would do only half body prostration. Besides the difference in reach out, all the others are the same in both types of prostration.
We should know that we have taken rebirth as a human being in this world because in our previous lives we performed contaminated virtuous actions that caused us to be born in this impure world as a human being.
This is why we are here.
No-one sent us to this world saying, ‘You should go and live in the human world.’
In the same way animals have taken rebirth as an animal in their own realm because in their previous lives they performed non-virtuous actions that were the main cause of their taking that rebirth.

I had previously known about maybe half of these, but seeing it on a graphic floored me so I decided to look in to the various death tolls. I took the higher figures in every instance because we all know old racist white folk would do whatever they could to minimize the heinous actions of their white communities. It’s also worth noting that for most massacres, they are typically listed as riots (IMO a racially charged word because of right-wing right media); and a lot of them have 10x as many injured than killed which I omitted those figures for brevity. A (very small) handful of the deaths were white people defending their black brethren, and so I also included those in the figures.
Let this history never be forgotten nor white washed (more than it already has).

Yessss all day long
“I ain’t draft dodging. I ain’t burning no flag. I ain’t running to Canada. I’m staying right here. You want to send me to jail? Fine, you go right ahead. I’ve been in jail for 400 years. I could be there for 4 or 5 more, but I ain’t going no 10,000 miles to help murder and kill other poor people. If I want to die, I’ll die right here, right now, fightin’ you, if I want to die. You my enemy, not no Chinese, no Vietcong, no Japanese. You my opposer when I want freedom. You my opposer when I want justice. You my opposer when I want equality. Want me to go somewhere and fight for you? You won’t even stand up for me right here in America, for my rights and my religious beliefs. You won’t even stand up for my right here at home. “ - Muhammad Ali 1967
Your brain can change and heal when you sensitize the amygdala. No, it's not brain surgery. In fact, the more pleasant the process, the better. Find out how.
I’m going to copy/paste the entire text of the above link here, because I’ve found dead links on this website and I want to make sure this info doesn’t disappear:
Last week I wrote about how possible it is for the brain to change after trauma. This week I want to share with you one of the ways you can do that. It’s all about creating positive experiences that last for long enough that your brain can record the experience through neural activity.
Whew, sounds like a lot of science and hard work, doesn’t it? Actually, it’s as easy as eating a ripe strawberry. Here’s what I mean…
How You Can Help Your Brain Change
According to neuropsychologist, Rick Hanson, “the brain takes it’s shape from whatever it rests upon.” What he means is that brain structure constantly changes as a result of the information flowing through it. Indulge your negativity bias (focus on the bad things) and your brain’s activity and development will reinforce all of the feelings and neuronal structures that support that.
But, develop your positivity bias (your ability to be optimistic, for example) and you can develop a wholly different set of neural pathways that create a very healthy, whole and healing brain indeed.
How the Amygdala Affects Brain Change
The fact is, the brain makes structural changes according to how you use your mind. Take your amygdala, for example. An almond shaped mass deep within your brain, the amygdala is the seat of your survival emotions and response. Studies have proven that the amygdala can actually enlarge in people with PTSD. It’s almost as if it’s a muscle; the more you work it the bigger it gets.
However, studies have also proven that the amygdala can shrink back to it’s original size when PTSD reduces. Want to know how to help that happen? In PTSD your amygdala gets sensitized to pain, fear, anxiety, panic, terror, etc. Starting today, however, you can start sensitizing it to something else, say, joy, delight, happiness, contentment, gratitude, etc.
How to Change Your Brain by Sensitizing the Amygdala
The major key to doing this? Creating experiences that allow your mind (hence, your amygdala) to have positive experiences and combining them with mindfulness practices that allow you to hold onto the feeling that experience creates for at least 10-20 seconds. This way you can sensitize your brain and different parts of it to good things and desensitize your brain and its part to the bad. Doing this will literally change your brain.
The equation looks like this:
Positive experience + mindfulness = neuronal change
Effecting this equation can be as simple as:
1. Choose a food you really, really love.
2. Eat it slower than you ever have before and really be aware of how it tastes in your mouth, how it smells, how it feels sliding down your throat, how it rests in your stomach and makes your whole body feel.
3. Focus on that good feeling for a solid 10-20 seconds. For best results: do this over and over and over again.
That’s just one simple example. The truth is, whatever brings you pleasure can be used. For me dance and movement is a huge pleasure zone. So was cuddling up with my pup. It’s up to you to decide, discover, explore and find what makes you feel good, even if only for 10-20 seconds at a time.
This all sounds very simple and maybe even ridiculous, doesn’t it? Make healing progress while having fun eating? Yes, exactly. No one ever said PTSD recovery had to be a red hot mess all the time. It’s just that until now, science never suggested that it could be so pleasurable either.
