I don’t think we talk enough about the fact that when Pony was dreaming of the country side he mentioned that he used to have a dog

OH MY GOSH YOURE RIGHT!!
Ok head canon time:
The dogs name was butterscotch because of his fur color, but everyone called him scotch
He was definitely a street dog until toddler soda found him and insisted on taking him home
Mrs. Curtis did not approve of the dog for about a year, then she warmed up to him
Probably only has been to the vet once maybe never
Darrel Sr. Had a dog growing up and he kept his collar so now butterscotch wears it. It’s navy blue with a little tag on it
After he warmed up to the Curtis’ he became super friendly to EVERYONE, except Dally. He didn’t like Dally
The gang did include scotch in their football time in multiple occasions, scotch was very fast when he got the ball
Darry liked scotch a lot because he would sit with him silently while Darry did his homework but also be fun when playing games.
Soda tried to ride him like a horse multiple times
When Pony was a baby every time he started crying scotch ran over and licked his face til her shut up, and once he did scotch would go back to whatever he was doing
Mrs. Curtis and Soda tried to teach scotch some tricks but he only ever learn how to sit on command
Darrel Sr. and Darry tried to take him hunting and make him a hunting dog but scotch did not like it. They took him fishing once and scotch did enjoy swimming in the lake, but he scared all the fish away so that was his last time fishing
The timelines a little fuzzy but I would say that scotch died and good enough time before the Curtis parents but not too soon that pony wouldn’t have any memories of him. So when pony was around 8-9 Scotch died :(
It’s the little things like this that really get you thinking about the outsiders, and how many tiny things pony mentioned in his book. The little things really do help with the world building and getting to know the characters. I love S.E. Hinton

Outsiders trios
johnny would be awful during relationships. not in the negative way, in the overthinking way.
he sees what his parents are. he doesn't wanna treat anyone like that, so he's cautious to be with someone. he doesn't want to be like his dad. he sees how other people in the gang treat their partners, he sees how dally and sylvia were, he sees sandy and soda, he sees both sides of a coin and he doesn't want a relationship due to all the examples hes seen.
