it is both caterpillar and nail it is an arugula leaf, too young and a cantaloupe too old it is now and then never and forever

like fresh cream on a weekends burn you dripped in i sat cross legged amongst towers of toothsome blossoms innocuous at last shrouded again

diligently collecting ants,  a neat line of bodies along one finger suddenly six and a day years old, serving marching orders feeding formicidae directly into your fresh mouth

all so eager

on your knees (on my knees) staring straight into the sun praying for something that had yet to arrive consuming               each thing in the wait one mandible one thorax one abdomen at a time
