thinking about the first time baby sophia would have grabbed onto billy's finger and how he would have been overwhelmed for a moment by how tiny her hand looks next to his

also thinking about the first time sophia rested her head on billy's shoulder and just melted into him the way babies do when they feel safe and how billy would be still as a statue for hours for fear of waking her

and also how it would feel when she instinctively reached for dulcinea for months whenever she started to cry, and how it would feel when she saw billy and reached out for his comfort for the first time

and how billy's face would light up when he made her laugh for the first time, when she took her first toddling steps toward him, when she looked at him with those round dark innocent eyes and called him dada and billy knew for sure that she knew him

She turns in a swirl of snowy fabric, dark hair tamed by a combination of gel and bobby pins. Her hands reach for him before her skirts have settled, and his hands rise of their own accord, as if puppeteered by a force beyond his control. 

“Honey, there you are,” Lucy Gray says, grasping at his fingers and drawing him further into the room. “C’mere, I wanna show you something…”

When she lets go of his hands, Coryo feels a little frisson of disappointment, like a small bird ruffling its feathers. It’s the same little bird, he thinks, that takes control of his body at times — as he reaches for her without conscious thought, as his head turns toward the sound of an open door, hoping to see her walk through it. There is a part of him, faint as a flicker of smoke from a fire long dead, that would catch that little bird and muffle its song between his palms. 

And sometimes, on nights when Lucy Gray is swarmed by admirers, when someone refers to him as hers rather than the other way around, or quite simply when it feels like his heart is actually swelling from a surfeit of emotion, he can almost hear his father’s voice. Telling him to capture that bird and press his hands together until the song is silenced forever. 

But — 

Then she smiles at him, the way she is smiling right now, and he forgets everything else, forgets the admirers and the smoke and his father’s voice. There’s only her.

in light of your recent ladybug art, I feel that I should share with you that one time I stopped my cat Max from eating a ladybug in part because I wasn’t sure if ladybugs were toxic to cats or not but also because I think ladybugs are really cute 

Oh Bri you are the patron saint of ladybugs <3 I don't know if ladybugs are toxic to cats but I'm sure the bug appreciated it all the same <3

i don't think they're good for kitties but i read that they have to eat a lot of ladybugs for it to actually hurt them, otherwise it would just make their tummy feel not great maybe

i also saw a ladybug today!! i went swimming with my friend and her son at my apartment pool and there was a little ladybug crawling on the stairs
