April 8th Here are some of the pieces of rope that I have used to do embossings. I have imprisoned them in an acrylic embryotic cell. I have been looking at the idea of life and death and how they twine together. Here I have captured death and have preserved it within an object. It also represents the new life, how we are all born with a tie to death that is never broken. With a new life a new death is born.
April 10th Here I took four of my embossings and silkscreened some of my body prints in a small scale over the top. The prints came out well but unfortunatley they did mask the embossings. In a few of them you can make out the rope but the acrylic has just filled in the grooves. This looks good on one of them as the filled in section is glossy but the flat bits are matt. overall i dont think that these worked and i will not be doing any more

Im getting a bit tired of uploading so many embossings. there are 85 that will be going into my final piece and then two series of experiments. I will upload a picture of the final piece when it is up in my space for the show but until then I think i will move on from uploading the embossing images.

March 15th-29th These are more of my embossings. There are quite a few of them because they are to represent the life of my friend who died. The average life expectancy for a British male is 85, he was 25 when he died. I am doing 85 embossings and then removing 25 at random to show how many years he had and how many he lost.
March 15th- 29th These are more of my Embossings. For my final piece for my show I am thinking about displaying these as a grid on the wall. I will have 85 of them up and then remove 25 of them at random. I will do this because 85 is the average life expectancy of a British Male and Bevan was 25 when he died. Each missing setion represents a year of Bevans life and the remaining sections show the years that he did not have.
March 15th - 29th After deciding that i was going to use rope as a metaphor for death i decided to continue with the rope ideas. I decided to do some embossings of the rope so that it really is just the rope that you see, not the ink. i like this idea because it ties in with my concept of how death is a subtle but ever-preasent part of life.
I wanted to look more closely at the idea of hte rope from the original image. I am using it as a metaphor for death. Death is such a complex thing but at the same time it is so simple. from these prints i believe that i have captured both aspects of this- rope; something that seems so simple and not really thought of and yet it is ridiculously complex and detailed when you look at it. I am happy with this set of prints.
March 1st Instead of forgetting about the figure completely from the original images i decided to focus only on them. All of these are prints from my body. I wanted to get a print that was raw and textured. Some of these were onto glass, these ones came up with a muh better texture to the ones on paper
My new theme is based around the idea of death... How it is an ever present essence that is hardly ever thought about in day to day life. It lives along side us throughout our entire lives only being thought about when we are confronted by it.
Feb 6th and April 2nd Bevan Project part 1 This is a project that I started based on the work of a dear friend of mine. He took photos of me for one of his projects. unfortunatley, a few months ago, he died. The work that i have been making is based around him and what his firendship and death has meant to me.
I actually made this for another project. I used photograms and silkscreened text to make a piece which started in an Alince in Wonderland project but grew to represent the freedom of speach withing text.
Once Noah had been born I started feeling a distance growing between me and my family. They were having a wonderful experience while I was away in Uni and i felt like i was missing out. To echo this feeling of seperation I did a series of works using pieces of broken glass which had some of my prints on. I named these pieces 'Family Portrait'
Nov 27th+28th This is a small glass piece that i made not using inks. I etched different layers into each sheet so that they ome together to make the faec of the newborn, Noah Tomkins. I siliconed bits of broken glass between each sheet at each corner to seperate the sheets equally.
This is a piece I made using silkscreen on glass. I split up the original image into layers and put them together so that they would line up when you look at it from a straight on angle. the very back piece of glass has a silk screen of the monoprint of the sonogram. I then siliconed each layer to two side pieces of glass. I have done another piece similar to this one but with an oak box frame
Oct 17th + Nov 8th After finding a composition that I liked in the last part, I made some dry point prints of the same composition. There is also another monogram here that became one of my favourite pieces in the collection.
Oct 17th-Nov 3rd I started doing monoprints of the sonogram, this led to an interesting composition that I used for my final pieces. Here is one of my favourite prints from the whole project. I used the protective arms of the parents along with the eerie head from the sonogram to come together to create an 'iconic image' (David Ferry). The composition represents the pending birth of the baby.
