Portraits of fifteen of the characters I know best (so far) of Louis XIV's court. I wanted to add their names but absolutely didn't plan space for it and as a result I'll have to list them here very lamely. Oh well, it was a fun exercise---especially gathering all the paintings to get their traits right. From top to bottom, left to right: Row 1 - Le Grand Condé (cousin of Louis and Philippe), Marie-Thérèse d'Autriche (Queen of France, Louis' first wife), Cardinal Jules Mazarin (Louis' Godfather) Row 2 - Madame de Montespan (Louis' most prominent mistress for a long time, Louis XIV, Madame de Maintenon (Louis' second wife... and much more) Row 3 - Armand de Gramont (some guy), Henriette-Anne d'Angleterre (Philippe's first wife), Le Chevalier de Lorraine (Philippe's life-long love) Row 4 - Anne-Marie-Louise d'Orléans (La Grande Mademoiselle, Louis and Philippe's cousin), Philippe d'Orléans, Elisabeth Charlotte de Bavière (la Princesse Palatine, Philippe's second wife) Row 5 - Antoinne Coëffier marquis d'Effiat (Philippe's ecuyer and one of his favourites), Anne d'Autriche (queen regent and Philippe and Louis' mother), Colbert (minister) Phew okay
King Louis XVI Private Bedchamber,
Château de Versailles, France,
Recently restored to its 1789 appearance (after 40 years of research) is a masterpiece of late 18th-century design located within the King's Private Apartments (petits appartements).
Unlike the highly ceremonial State Bedchamber, this room was a more intimate space for rest, featuring the restored Lit à la duchesse (duchess bed) adorned with gilded pelicans and lampas fabric.
Neuschwanstein Castle, Germany 1900
