Hi there!! I was going on a snarry binge on tumblr (haven't used this site in ages actually whew) and I saw your work, binged your tumblr, and just wanted to say: As a game art student who struggles at storyboarding, is insecure about her art and is generally unsure of how the future will proceed, seeing you openly talk about your art path and experiences is really relieving and gives me hope for the future. And I honestly can't believe it all came from my simple want to binge some snarry content! (WOO sorry if that's a little heavy)
Anyways if this is too personal you can refrain from answering, but I just wanted to ask: what's working in storyboarding professionally like? Thanks so much for reading!
Storyboarding is pain 😅 It's a grueling, iterative process where you have to learn to be ok with throwing away your work. But the moments when things click, or, when the character finally comes to life is one of the most rewarding feelings out there. Seeing your ideas on the final film screen with the team you worked so hard with - nothing compares.
I think that the biggest thing that I've learned from working in the industry is that, while we are given the opportunity to add little bits and pieces of ourselves into this wonderfully collaborative craft, at the end of the day, the work is someone else's baby. And that's ok. I've learned to put down boundaries for myself, put in a sincere's day's work, and go home. Remember that we work on a team, that it's ok to ask for help, and that our worth is not determined by our craft. At the end of the day, we just make cartoons.
But I'm glad that my little rants here have been helpful. I hope your artistic journey is fruitful. Best of luck, fellow artist! :)
