Going plastic free - Pens

This year I realised just how much plastic I come in contact with just at school. It was scary. So, I started by switching out my bic collection and my plastic pens with metal ones.

Because I don’t have such a big budget, I bought one from Shein. It came with a refillable ink container. Pretty cool!

I filled this pen with red ink so I can have a colour in my notes. I could not find a highlighter made out of metal so this was my second best option.

10/10 Would recommend!!

Get plastic out of your lives people and replace it with better and more durable materials! Till next time! 😽

Sudoku 101

The basics

The goal is to fill the 9x9 grid so that every number from 1 to 9 appears exactly once in every:

- Row (the horizontal line)

- Column (vertical line)

- Box (3x3 bolded squares)

Techniques to master

Each move you make needs to be backed by logic. If you guess and get it wrong, the whole puzzle breaks.

- Scanning: look at a specific number and see where it appears in neighboring rows and columns. Use those "lines" to see which cells in a 3x3 box are blocked off.

- Naked Singles: This happens when a specific cell has only one possible number left that can fit after you've checked its row, column, and box.

- Hidden Singles: When a number could go in multiple spots in a box, but there is only one specific spot where it is actually allowed (because other rows/columns block the other options).

- Pencil Marks: Use "Notes" mode! Write small numbers (candidates) in the corners of cells. It’s the only way to solve harder puzzles.

Once you master the techniques above, you can take it up a notch and start learning these:

1. Set them free

𝜗𝜚 Remove any other thing from the packaging

2. Give them a fresh cut

𝜗𝜚 Trim the stems 2-3 cm at a 45 degree angle

𝜗𝜚 Use sharp scissors/ garden shears

3. Clear the waterline

𝜗𝜚 Remove any leaves submerged in water

4. The magic potion

𝜗𝜚 Fill your vase with lukewarm water

𝜗𝜚 Add a pinch a sugar (to feed the flowers)

𝜗𝜚 Also add a splash of vinegar (keep bacteria away)

𝜗𝜚 Aternatively, use a flower food packet

𝜗𝜚 Change the water every 2 days

5. Pick the perfect spot

𝜗𝜚 Keep it in a cool place

𝜗𝜚 Avoid direct sunlight or placing them near a fruit bowl
