She banged the side of her body slightly against the car door almost slipping in the process. “Come on,” she pulled at the door handle, her eyes falling to someone who had been watching. She felt embarrassed as she knew how ridiculous she looked. “It’s uh, it’s frozen shut.”

“Not the worst problem in the world.” Luke looked up from his own car’s door. Pulling the lighter out of his pocket, he walked over and flicked it to life against the seam of the car door. “It’s either this or body heat, but this may work a little better in the long run.”

Truthfully, he had more power of her than she liked to let on and finding out he was engaged, actually hit harder than she thought. “Maybe? Seriously? Cut the crap, Luke. You met someone else, accept it.” She deadpanned, crossing her arms and rolling her eyes at his confession. “Could’ve fooled me. Considering you went off and decided to spend your life with someone else.” 

“Probably not, but who knows.” Luke kept his eyes on her and shook his head. “Of course I met someone else, but that doesn’t mean I’ve stopped thinking about you Em.” What he wasn’t going to do was get into a deep conversation about how her sudden disappearance had scared the shit out of him. That people could still leave his life after all this time. “It’s complicated.”

Wanting to make it clear by the seriousness in her expression that she wasn’t in the mood to play with him. “So be it, you stole hers, but clearly you must feel something for the old hag if you asked her to marry you in less than seven months.”

“C’mon, you wouldn’t hurt me.” Though he had a feeling those words of hers were true. “Maybe.” Inside, he was dying to tell her it was all a sham, but he didn’t know how far that news would spread. “But maybe not nearly as much as you think.” His eyes met hers and he sighed. “I missed you, you know.”

“Can’t hurt to try.” Of course it could, if his fiancee was around. Luke gave her a half grin and waved his hand to order another drink. “What if it’s me who stole hers, hm?”
