Percy Jackson was sixteen years old, and scared to death.
Because, the thing was, he was supposed to be deciding the Destiny of the Entire World. At least, that was what they had recently learned, after his best friend Thalia had sneaked into Camp Half-Blood to talk to the little girl she spoke of as a sister (and that was a tree for quite a while, sometimes Percy’s life sounded like a terrible joke).
He was scared, and he was also extremely pressured because, well, Thalia has gone through her sixteenth birthday (and then seventeenth, and then…) and had no surrendered to Kronos.
…not like Percy. Percy got why they were demigods aligning with Kronos, as they were others still going to serve the gods. He was simply glad Thalia (a complete rogue agent) and her protector/friend Grover had found him. Just as he was glad they had found the Di Angelo siblings that one time they ended up in the Lotus Casino, or his former almost-girlfriend (apparently, it wasn’t a good idea to be an Oracle and dating) Rachel Elizabeth Dare.
He was scared as shit, and also nervous because he was about to get Thalia’s kind-of-sister back to the daughter of Big-Asshole (Zeus) from, well, her other surrogate sibling.
Kronos’ first in command, Luke Castellan.
Percy had never faced him one-on-one (and the last time he believed the other demigod had truly noticed him he was like twelve, and still processing horses talking to him was not a sign of insanity), and he felt kind of respectful fear of his abilities (he was one of the very few people to have severely injured Thalia -and Thalia was certain he had restrained himself, just as she had done-).
“You are not a kid” the voice behind him sounded genuinely surprised.
“Neither are you” he replied, incapable of coming up with a better quip, as he turned, holding Annabeth’s small boy unconscious in his arms.
Fuck, he was handsome.
Really handsome, disturbingly so. Suddenly, he wasn’t in such a hurry for Blackjack to come save the day.
“Leave Annabeth on the floor, now” suddenly, Percy knew he wanted him to keep commanding him in that tone, for as long as possible. Good for everyone involved, Percy’s winged friend came to the rescue, crashing a window and picking both of them without a moment hesitation.
As they left, the pegasus commented on the frame he had interrupted:
“You are blushing, boss”.
Next time he saw Luke, it was mid-battle to keep them from finding some sort of superpowerful Titan weapon (Percy didn’t care much about the magic-y details), and somehow they ended up fighting on their own in the middle of the forest.
No one around to see them, and they began talking. And, then, Percy understood: he got his anger, he got how Kronos got to him, and, most important, he got that he wanted out.
Maybe it was because he was only sixteen, maybe it was fucking Eros’ throwing arrows at them, but he thought there was only one thing that could convince this young man that had too much in common with him (while he couldn’t be more different, WHO STILL CARED ABOUT HONOR AND GLORY IN THE 21ST CENTURY?!). He disarmed him, and, before he could attack again, pulled him closer and kissed him…
…and Luke kissed him back, before begin trying to asphyxiate him with his bare hands.
Percy pushed him away, and, without saying another word, they both run in opposite directions.
Luke knew this couldn’t go on much longer. He knew his meetings with Jackson in the middle of nowhere were doomed. Debating, sword fighting, kissing, doing…other stuff (including commanding the younger boy, apparently, his angry voice was a turn, who could have said?).
Kronos would notice, would eventually find out, and, then, maybe he completely took over the demigod; it had never be easier to get Percy Jackson.
(Also, he was marginally conscious about the fact that sleeping with a minor was kinda illegal and amoral; if that mattered in the face of his other crimes).
And, yet, he was willing to make it last as much as possible.
He simply hoped Percy was able to come with a good excuse of the chocking marks on his neck.

"Thalia Grace, you saved the world, and my life" Thanatos was as beautiful as Hazel, Frank and Percy had told her a few years before, and yet, it was infuriatingly distracting (especially when your boss wants you out of any sort of relationship, of romantic and/or sexual matter, and was also an all-knowing goddess). "And, since the balance of the universe won't be recovered until a few hours from now…I'll give you a present. I am giving you back your brother, the tragic blond boy that helped changing the way of the Gods".
Thalia almost chocked.
JASON.
Percy Jackson cried over the letter he had just finished writing. He still loved Annabeth, always would, but she was just…she was his best friend (with Grover, of course), but, since living together, since growing up for real and in peace together, he had realized maybe the person you began liking at the beginning of your puberty isn’t always the one you will end up with.
That was what he was writing down, a letter to Annabeth, though it was completely to himself, because he knew she deserved a face-to-face explanation. A letter of non-romantic love, but of love anyways; because he loved her too much to be with her when he wasn’t completely honest with how he currently felt.
And then, then there was the other thing: the Gods thing.
As much as Annabeth could be critical, she…she still believed in honoring them. In the respect owned, even if they didn’t deserve it.
Percy? Percy was everyday more pissed Kronos’ populist speech (Piper had told him the term) was so painfully on point. Some nights, he dreamed of Luke, he dreamed of what would have happened if he had been younger when they first met, or Percy older; if they had found a common ground, away from Kronos, but also from the Gods…
…he shook his head. That would never happened. Luke had died years ago, and he had only began to realize he had never truly only hated him since he had discovered Camp Jupiter.
As he finished writing (if he didn’t have enough with the dyslexia, the tears were just adding to the how troublesome his self-imposed mission was), he heard her knocking on the door.
Time had come.
Thalia was sitting with her legs crossed, playing with her spear as a little girl, anxious to see Jason once again.
“Thalia?” she would have recognized that voice anywhere.
The young man in front of her, with his face scared and his eyes as confused as a pair of (half) human eyes could be, was not Jason Grace.
It had been a week since they had broken up, and, even though at first Annabeth had taken it quite badly (and that without Percy mentioning the Gods’ part; he didn’t want to bring her back memories of Luke, as much as he knew he wasn’t at all like Luke had been), she had come back and they had kept being roommates.
After all, they worked as such, and the two graecus in New Rome better stick together.
Everything was quite relaxed until Thalia knocked in their door, a man in his early twenties right behind her.
Percy saw the blue intense eyes first, then the scar. Then, the floor as he fainted (someone had to take Jason’s torch, he guessed).
“You have grown up” the voice was hesitant, as Percy woke up to see the same man that had tried to kill him multiple times, handling him with unsuspected care.
“You haven’t” Percy was too startled to say anything else. Luke smiled sadly.
Luckily enough for the four of them, Annabeth wasn’t, and the evening went away as a bizarre family reunion.
One in which Percy had no clue what place he occupied.
“You still fight too Roman” Luke said. It had been a year since Thanatos had chosen that brother of Thalia to be the one to be brought back to life, and, even though sometimes Percy's first instinct was still to act defensively around him (and Luke was kind of a bit too violent with most of the other demigods in New Rome), they had found in each other the perfect companion they didn't know they needed.
“You still fight too Titan” Percy said, pulling the other demigod to the ground as he lent a hand to help him up.
“Bastard!”
“Aren’t we all?” both began laughing, and, without noticing, turned their heads to each other. Seconds turned minutes turned fantasies shared by both without knowing. “I, uh…Annabethsaidweshouldopenthistogether”.
It was a teddy bear dressed with a Camp Half-Blood T-shirt in such a bad state it could only have been Percy's. However, it also had a Rachel Elizabeth's Dare certified comb on his half-golden eye. He was holding a letter inside a rainbow envelope.
A very short letter:
I love you, Seaweed Brain: ask Luke out ALREADY. And don’t you fucking dare screw this up, he might turn evil again.
P.D: I’m staying at Piper’s this weekend, be as loud as you two want.
As blue eyes stared at green ones, they didn’t wait for the dorms to be loud.
