The records management chapters have helped me better understand how to mange my records and electronic records by describing functional ways to organize and describe them. This has helped me already since naming files and keeping them well organized wasn’t my strongest suit. Since reading these chapters I have already reorganized my electronic filing system and so far, it has helped tremendously.

The way you shake hands or initiate interaction can exude confidence while a limp, cold hand and bad posture can make someone think that you’re not capable of getting things done, thus taking their business elsewhere.

Most people equate leadership with a specific position or job title. But you need more then a title on the door to have followers. True leadership is the ability to influence people to achieve a better result for an organization or group. The most effective leaders have a strong sense of self; they understand the qualities that make other people want to follow them, and they know how to adjust those qualities when circumstances require them to do so. The article I have posted is definitely worth a read. It is informative and compelling in it’s description of what qualities and abilities leaders have when it comes to their relationships in the workplace.

I especially agree with the following quote from the article: “ To be a good leader, it is critical to develop management skills relating to delegation and feedback.” In order to be an effective leader you must decipher what skills each employee has and to delegate tasks to those with the proper strengths to get them done.

It is also very important to know how to deliver feedback that will come across as constructive and not offensive. There is a tricky balance to this as everyone’s reactions to criticism can vary so greatly.

From this chapter I have learned about the importance of ethical behavior in the workplace in the following ways:

For one, unethical behavior often leads to business failure. A big example of that is what happened to Enron. Because of the scheming of a few a whole business failed and many people were adversely affected by the resulting closure.

I have also learned that business should be conducted ethically so that employees feel safe in the workplace. Employees would find it hard to be productive if they were not comfortable with their employers if they were ethically inept.

I believe that in order to maintain a balanced work life you must find a way to streamline tasks and to find a way to reduce stress and tension while in the workplace. It’s proven that when a person is stressed and feels overwhelmed they become less productive which would in effect bring down the workflow of the business.

I believe this to be totally true. So many companies and visions have failed because of the lack of cohesiveness and effective communication. The “big picture” should always remain everyone’s goal (unless something becomes unethical, of course).

This chapter has helped me to recognize that I can strengthen my written communication in the following ways:

For one, I gained more clarity in identifying which forms of letters to use in which situations. I also found the C’s of writing to be quite informative and I plan on using them in my future writing endeavors. As for the basic grammar, spelling, etc., I was already adept in my writing skills, although it is always a good thing to reinforce what you know with practice and additional knowledge on the subject. Additionally, I plan on using all of the tools provided in this chapter when I write letters and e-mails because all of the information provided was indeed useful and necessary.

I find that these tops are really helpful in portraying a sincere and professional quality to the atmosphere which helps in deescalating a possible bad customer interaction. Also, keeping records is so important in customer service. Clients like when you can recall past conversations and details about them. It helps to build trust between the client and the company.
