Is it hard to get a job in marine biology and oceanography?

It really depends on what you want to do and what degree you actually get. A lot of people mistaken marine biology for oceanography but they are very different fields. The most important thing if you are thinking about getting a job in a science field is to get as much experience as you can in any type of science work as an undergraduate, whether it be as a lab technician or a research assistant. Another thing you can do for experience is to think about a senior project that can turn into a thesis, I'm not sure if you already have a degree or not but if you don't, look into doing an undergraduate thesis. Doing a thesis is a good way to gain experience in a lab and you learn to write which is a very important skill to learn, and you might get published which would be awesome. As for jobs afterwards, it's really about how passionate you are about the subject. I truly believe people appreciate good grades and passion in learning. So about the difficulty of getting a job, I would say it depends on your experience, the degree you have, and your willingness to learn. Universities are good and bad, good because they have many opportunities for science work and bad because they are usually broke. I hope this helps. My mom would always tell me anything worth having is worth working for, so that's how I've tried to view my path in the science world. Just keep working and doing well in school and SEEK out people who can put you forward.
