To Harlequin: Let's say you're in charge of the circus for a whole day. For some reason, Jester and the Ticket Tacker had to leave, and it was just you, the Doctor, and Pierrot. What would you do?
Oh, the things I would do, dear one~ First, we'd put Pierrot in a cage and advertise him as a terrifying beast from some faraway land~
As for Doctor... perhaps we could let him roam freely through a haunted attraction, chasing visitors through the dark. Imagine their faces when they realize he isn't part of the act~
The freak circus is an 18+ game(I know its a visual novels but leave me alone dw) and therefore, this counts as 18+ fanfiction- so;

At first, you thought distance would be enough.Nothing dramatic. Nothing cruel. Just small, careful acts of betrayal self-protection.
You stopped lingering near Pierrot after you were done helping him. You answered his questions with shorter replies. You made excuses when he asked you to stay. You kept your hands to yourself, your body angled away, your attention deliberately elsewhere.
You started saying things like, "I need space." and “Please don’t stand so close." In a voice that was as gentle as you could make it. You told yourself that if you were polite enough, clear enough, maybe he would understand.
Pierrot only tilted his head, quiet and observant, as if he were watching something odd tug at him. It was indeed very odd for the creature
The first time you set a real boundary, he looked surprised. Not angry. Not yet. You had been helping him with something small, something he had asked for in that soft, broken way of his that used to make pity twist in your chest. But when he stepped closer to thank you, you stepped back.
"Don’t." You said before you could stop yourself. Then, after a beat, because your heart was pounding too hard and you needed him to understand, “Please don’t do that.”
His expression didn’t change much, but something in the air around him did.
"Oh." He said quietly. Then smiled wider. That's okay. You just need some time adjusting. He can wait..
You nodded once, wishing you could take the words back and still mean them at the same time. "I'm serious,” you added. “I need some space, Pierrot..."
Pierrot was still for a long moment. Then he gave a small, almost graceful nod, and stepped away. It's fine. You'll soften into him...
Eventually.
For a while, you thought it had worked. For a while, he listened. He stopped reaching for your sleeve. Stopped leaning in when you spoke. Stopped appearing at your side the moment you turned around. The relief lasted exactly long enough for you to start believing the worst of it was over. But he changed in ways that were harder to name. He watched now.
Constantly.
He noticed when you spoke more steadily to the Ticket Taker than to him, more eye contact, more steadily more... real. When you stood farther from the center of the tent. When you made a point of never being alone with him.
When you flinched, just slightly, every time Harlequin called your name too brightly from across the room. Pierrot began to look at you like you were slipping out of reach.
Maybe you were... no, NO! He shoulding be thinking of his dear like this! You- you loved him! Right?
It started with the small things. He would be waiting outside your path when you turned a corner, silent and pale and patient. He would ask if you were avoiding him in that calm, gentle voice that made the question feel worse than if he had shouted it.
"My dear- are you.. avoiding me?" You could feel the guilt shredding you apart from the inside.
He would offer to walk with you, to carry things for you, to make it easier.
"Let me hold that for you, my dear. I'm sure its bothering you."
Each time, you said no.
Each time, he looked more and more as if he didn’t understand why. Because why would you say no? He was being gentle, he wasnt even raising his voice at you, goddammit!

"I'm allowed to say no." You responded him one evening, keeping your voice steady with effort. "I’m allowed to not want to be touched. I’m allowed to be left alone." Your doing it, your finally doing it!
Pierrot blinked slowly. For a moment, he looked genuinely confused, as though the words had been spoken in another language. Then his expression softened into something almost sad.
"Did I upset you?"
The question should have sounded harmless.It didn’t.Because there was something carefully wrong about the way he asked it, something that made your stomach twist. Not guilt. Not remorse. Just the need to identify where you had gone wrong in the script he had already written.
"Yes." Firm, your suprised you could manage that. "You did." He stared at you. You held his gaze only because you forced yourself to. "I'm not doing this anymore." You continued. "I'm not going to keep pretending I’m comfortable just because it’s easier for everyone else." There. You said it... finally.
The silence that followed was heavy and strange.When Pierrot finally spoke, his voice was almost too soft to hear.
"I thought you were kind."
Your chest tightened. "I am." You responded, and hated how shaky it sounded. "I'm still being kind. That does not mean you get access to me." For a second, his face went empty. Was he understanding this?
Then the mask settled back into place with that, stupid, stupid grin. "Of course." He murmured. Staring through your soul.
But after that, everything shifted.He stopped asking.He started deciding.Your meals appeared where you could not avoid them. Your time was quietly accounted for. People drifted away when you tried to speak to them, as if someone had already told them not to interfere.
Harlequin’s jokes grew sharper when you tried to leave a room early. Doctors eyes sharpened every time you attempted to drift. Ticket taker would linger behind you just long enough for it to be a coincidence. Jester's gaze is now harder to decipher, but it still burns to feel it on your skin.
And Pierrot became stiller. Calmer. This is what you wanted
You began to feel it before you saw it: the pressure of his attention, the sense of being enclosed by it. And once the skies faded to that overlooming black, you tried to leave the circus. You had things to wake up to tomorrow and you are one of the last to leave.
You were halfway to the exit when a gloved clawed hand closed around your wrist. You startled so hard your breath caught in your throat.
"Don’t leave." Pierrot murrmered. His voice was calm. Too calm.You turned, yanking once. "Please?"
"Let go."
He didn’t. Your pulse slammed in your ears.
"Pierrot."
He stared at you like he was memorizing your face."You keep running from me." He whispered, and now the hurt in his voice was unmistakable, raw and aching, like he genuinely believed you had done something cruel to him.
"After everything. After I waited, and waited and waited for you to warm up." The words made your skin go cold. "This is what you decide? To leave?"
"I never owed you that." you said, stepping back against his grip. "I helped you because I felt bad for you. That is all. I told you to give me space." His fingers tightened.For the first time, there was something frighteningly final in his expression.
"No.." he whispered. "You helped me because you love me. You can't leave no." You tried to pull free.
"Stop lying to yourself, my dear.."
He moved faster than you expected. One moment you were standing in the dark air outside the tent, and the next he had forced you close enough that you could feel the strange, quiet strength in him. You made a sound of panic, twisting hard, but his arm locked around you before you could escape.
"Pierrot- stop!" His face was right beside yours now, too close, too pale, too calm. Your eyes darted around, you needed someone to help, anyone. Ticket taker nor the other were anywhere in sight.
"I tried." He started, and it sounded like an explanation. "I tried to be good." Then everything went horribly still. You realized, with a sudden surge of dread.
That this wasn’t anger.
It was decision.
And when he lifted you off your feet and placed that chemical ridden cloth over your mouth before carrying you back toward the tent, ignoring your struggle, your fear, your muffled voice breaking with protest, there was no doubt left at all.
Pierrot had not misunderstood your boundaries.
He had simply decided they did not matter.
Because someone already left him once.
You can't too. You love him.

Summary: The purpose of the Silver Seal Tree was to imprison their target. Elder Faerie must break out however, no matter the cost. And yet . . . he does not know what Shadow Milk will do to keep him in place.
Notes: There is no smut in this. But it is very much Dead Dove territory if you are not comfortable with this. PLEASE READ TAGS! INVOLVES SPOILERS FOR THE TIMELINE OF FATE!

It was dark. And cold. But it didn't matter. Elder Faerie knew this wasn't the time to give up. Not yet. Not when he had his mission to still complete.
Even if he was trapped in the tree, he could still think, feel, and move around. Which meant he could eventually find a crack - or make one - and escape. He had no time to lose. Pulling out his sword, he begins to fly around, testing the surroundings.
Deep down, he knew the beasts were at work outside. Continuing the chaos they were creating. And with the Milk of Knowledge holding this new power, he had no doubt that Beast Yeast wouldn't be the only place this chaos would spread to. He was finding himself getting more frantic the longer his mind thought about it.
The faerie king found a spot. Attempted to chip his blade into it. No luck. Try again. He fluttered his wings, reaching to the ceilings. Every crevice needed to be checked and double checked. Something had to give. Something had to fail.
"Ehehehe~! Still trying to stop me even after you lose? How stupid of you~!"
Elder Faerie could feel it. The dark presence was inside with him. No, wait . . . more like the tree was him. Placing his hand on it, he could feel the bark breathing with a steady heartbeat. The king gritted his teeth and gripped his sword tightly.
"At this point, your power is already being drained. And your abilities will only inevitably weaken to the point where you won't be able to do anything~."
He turns his head. "Then why are you trying to convince me of that fact?"
For a moment, the beast didn't answer. Yet it's breathing was still calm. Stable. He was planning something. Elder Faerie decided to simply ignore him and return to his mission.
Shadow Milk sighed. "So what is your plan then, hm? When you bust out of here, what will you do? Have you even thought that far ahead?"
The faerie attempted to hit another spot of the tree. No damage. Next section.
"I do hate being ignored you know. You really shouldn't push me."
"Threatening me will do you no good if I am valuable alive," he answered back, "so your words hardly will reach me."
"Hah! As always. Noble to the very end. Willing to sacrifice everything for nothing! I really did think before it was you becoming senile, and yet here you are at your prime, doing nothing but the same thing."
At that, Elder Faerie slowed. Something about that made him question something. "Just what is it you are implying with those words?"
"Oh~? Curious of what happened before? Do you really wish to know how little your efforts mattered in the grand scheme of things?"
"Then why bother interfering with our plan? Unless you know it did do something."
Silence. Only to be followed up with a faint giggle. "Hehehehe~. Oh that is not what I meant at all.
"For you see, you and the traitor did succeed in sealing us away. But we eventually escaped due to thieves who stole half of our powers. When the seal broke, I was able to get out. And you died a pointless death in order to seal us away again."
Elder Faerie paused. So there was a way to escape. But how? He surely had to find the weak point here. Looking around, his eyes suddenly fell on a portion of bark that was wriggling with living shadow. There! Raising his weapon, he strikes at it, watching it splatter and disperse.
Shadow Milk only laughed as more spots of black surrounded him.
"Once again, I ask you: what is your plan if you escaped? To fight me again and lose? To find help that will never come? Isn't it rather pointless of you to even try to struggle against me?"
Darkness swallowed the room until it was pitch black. Only for a shiny eye to light up the dark and create a stage for him. The Faerie Kingdom. In it's beauty and glory. No one was around except for him. Before him was a patch of wild lilies that wavered in a gentle gust of wind.
Elder Faerie grunted. This was fake. This wasn't real. He was just trying to toy with him. "It doesn't matter if I could be successful or not. So long as I keep resisting you, I will know I've done all I could to ensure you do not win."
"Ah, so that's what this game is~! Hahahaha~! So long as you are pushing back, you feel as though you still have control! That you still have power!"
Rising from the lilies was a form taking shape. Elder Faerie was ready to fight, until he realized who he was facing. A white knight, holding his precious blade.
The figure spoke. "Then let us not fight anymore."
The faerie cookie launched forward and attacked him. Salt of Solidarity looked shocked as he defended himself. Trading blows as the two flew around the stage. Elder Faerie enraged with hatred.
"I will not let you taint his sacred memory like this!!!" With a thrust, he stabs the cookie, pushing the blade deep into his gut.
Salt of Solidarity stood there. Unphased by the strike. "Is this how you want to spend these moments in here? Fighting me forever?"
He looked him dead in the eye. "You are not him! You could never be him!"
"Does it matter if I am or not? Shadow Milk has already corrupted me in this timeline. Escaping would not mean you would get to see me again."
He pulled out his sword and slashed at his throat, cutting the head off. It merely hovered in place before it reattached to his body. This copy was not able to be destroyed by his power or blade. It was a ghost staring right back at him.
"I will live with his sacrifice! As long as I can still remember who he use to be!"
"Memories . . . yes . . . they are a powerful thing. It is why I know that deep down, you will always remember me. For I was more than just an ally to you, right?"
Elder Faerie attempted another strike. Salt of Solidarity hit it with his own and it flew out of his hands. Placing his own sword down, the ghost continued to walk towards him. Elder Faerie stepping back.
"I can see it. Deep within you, there was a secret you were hiding. Something you wanted to bury forever. Because you didn't believe it was possible in the slightest."
The king felt the tree's bark behind him. He didn't have anywhere to run in this small space. He couldn't. And at that, he couldn't help but feel his anger rise. How dare this trickster try to deceive him! No, he would not allow this to continue.
Raising his hand, he went to hit him. The knight pinned him swiftly before he could make contact. Eyes locking in on one another.
"Elder Faerie . . . you and I never meet again in the other timeline."
At that, the faerie felt his breath caught in his throat.
"You die before I escape. And I end up sacrificing my life to ensure Shadow Milk doesn't obtain my souljam. In the end, we are always apart. And I know you never wanted that to be the case."
The ghost reached his hand to Elder Faerie's face. He flinched, but slowly allowed him to do so. How cruel this was. To use his temptation against him like this.
"Perhaps we were never meant to be with one another. Such a fate is far too cruel for me to imagine. But you have. And it breaks your heart."
Elder Faerie pushes back, trying to run. Salt of Solidarity only pulls him back and holds him tight in gentle embrace.
"I was lost when I came to your kingdom. And yet, it was not the tree that made me feel found. It was your kind words, generous heart, and soft touch that made me feel as though I could keep going."
He shut his eyes. This wasn't real, this wasn't real, he wasn't real, he wasn't real!
"There was no certainty that what we were doing could work. But I believed in you. Everyday we met, I felt hope fill me again. Yes. You felt it too, did you not?"
Gritting his teeth, he whimpered. "Salt would never-"
Swiftly, the ghost turned him around. This time, his armor was back to the black form it was before. "No. But it is what you desired most of all, is it not?"
He was frozen in place. He couldn't move an inch. Not because he was afraid. Because he wanted to stay. Caught between fight and flight, choosing neither instead.
A hand reached for his helmet, Silent Salt taking off his helmet. His ghastly face staring back with a knowing and gentle look. His hand reached for Elder Faerie's cheek, caressing it with care.
The expression on his face was one of longing. Deep down, Elder Faerie wanted this to be real. Even if he wanted to deny that fact, it was undeniable now.
"All I am offering you is a dream. One where you can peacefully enjoy for all eternity. Just let me indulge you. For a little bit."
Silent Salt leaned in slowly. Dragging on as though the moment would be frozen in time. And eventually, Elder Faerie found himself leaning in closer as well. Their lips touching one another. Pressing desperately as though they were still miles apart from one another.
Hands and arms slowly wrapped around one another as Elder Faerie was gently laid in the field of flowers. Tears trickling down his cheek as he betrays his thoughts again. This wasn't real. This wasn't him.
But it really didn't matter.
The two sat in each other's embraces as Silent Salt slipped away from the kiss and pressed his lips onto his neck. A sigh escaped Elder Faerie. His muscles were feeling relaxed, and his mind was feeling foggy and blurry. When did that happen? Why was . . . he could feel Silent Salt caressing his head and hair, distracting him from what he was thinking about. The scent of lilies wafted in the air as he stared at the fake sky.
Silent Salt hummed and then leaned into his ear. "There's no need to escape."
A thought entered his head. He accepted it. There was no need to escape.
"There is nothing but the tree."
There was nothing but the tree.
"You want to stay in the tree."
He wanted to stay in the tree.
"And sleep~."
Sleep.

You didn't 'visit' the circus. That word implies choice. You just… never found a way to leave after helping Pierrot that first time. Helping him wasn't just kindness in your mind, it was pity dressed up as decency.
He looked fragile, unsettlingly so, and something in you said that if you walk away, something worse will happen to him. Pierrot interprets your hesitation as gentleness. Your silence as understanding. Your lack of resistance as trust.
But it isnt.
And it never will be.
It’s calculation.
You learn quickly that saying 'no' doesn’t work here. Not because he would punish you outright, he would never!
But because he isnt trustable.
He stalks, he watches, he lurks.
Its better to stay silent.
So you adapt. You nod. You comply.
You minimize yourself. Its safer this way.
He's a monster, compliance is key.
Around Pierrot you keep your voice soft, but your body angled away. You never sit too close unless forced.
When he leans in, you subtly shift just enough to keep space without making it obvious.
He thinks you’re shy.
'How sweet, my dear!' He ponders, looking at you shift away from him, every so subtly. Your just shy. But don't worry! He's here until you warm up..
You’re actually just thinking a way out.

Harlequin is worse in a different way.
Too loud.
Too close.
Too interested
He notices everything:
The way your shoulders tense when he oh so ever nears, the way your smile never reaches your eyes(even with Pierrot!), the way you freeze when he circles behind you.
But instead of understanding, he treats it like a game.
Because it IS a game! For him at least.
“Ohhh, you’re nervous! That’s adorable.”
You laugh at his jokes.
Not because it’s funny(when are they ever?) because it’s safer.
Who knows what he can do with those tendrils. Its better to avoid letting history repeat itself.

The Ticket Taker watches you like you’re a misplaced object. Not unkind. But not kind either. When you follow instructions without question, he seems… satisfied. Good. You suspect he's the type who’d notice if you tried to leave- so you never test it.
'Like a doll. If only I was able to make them a fool before Pierrot and Harlequin got to them.' Ticket taker would murmured in the depths of his mirrors. Watching you carefully pass through his tent.
Its a good idea to cover your vanity mirror tonight. And the night after.

The Doctor unnerves you the most.
Observant, that one.
He notices your distance immediately.
"You’re experiencing sustained stress, patient” he tells you once, like it’s a diagnosis instead of a situation. You nod, you don’t tell him, an 'oh.' Should be fine. He was never that hard to satisfy.
Stay still? Suddenly your a statue,
Take this injection? Well, doctor knows best.
But when asks more about the stress.. he’s part of the reason.
He's one of them.

Jester is... tricky.
He treats everything like a joke. Because he knows.
Seeing you squirm under his gaze is entertaining, including your discomfort. Mimics your stiff posture .
Exaggerates your careful steps, laughs when you flinch at his actions. But sometimes -just sometimes- he stops. Watches you. Looks deep into this hesitant eyes of yours. Tilts his head like he’s trying to figure out if you’re playing along… or genuinely afraid. You look away before he decides.
"Your like a puzzle I need to crack, mm? Aren't you, pet?" You just nod, glancing at anything but him.

Agree, but not enthusiastically , smile, but not brightly , stay, but never settle You don’t bond with them, not emotionally.
You survive around them.
Pierrot, meanwhile, believes that you chose to stay, you understand him.
You’re just… delicate. Something to treat with care, something to love throughly.
When you pull away, he doesn’t see fear.. He sees something to be patient with.
And that’s what traps you the most.
Not cruelty.
Not force.
But the fact that none of them fully realize you were never comfortable. You were just too scared to do anything else.
Nights are the hardest. When things go quiet, your mind gets loud.
