i also miss kaito...........
part one of my momoharu week entries !!!
White Day is always something that's a little weird, but it's tradition. Kaito made sure to, of course, get Maki her gift of candy and some pretty flowers. But what he had done was take her out that night after the sun went down. He took her to his favorite star gazing spot, laying on the grass with her. Eventually, he asked to see her hand, telling her stories about the great astronauts on earth. As he does this, he slips a small metal band of gold onto her ring finger.
( belated ) white day gifts !! / @luminaryway
truthfully, she doesn’t really expect much on valentine’s day and white day. her relationship with kaito is one with no pressure, no damning expectations similar to the ones society holds – it’s enough to do something simple, just buy a box of chocolates or make the other breakfast, nothing over the top required ( though, of course, kaito always seems to go above and beyond. ) that night is no exception. she was happy to receive gifts as simple as flowers and candy earlier on, and she could not truthfully express surprise when he took her hand after night fell and insisted that she accompany him.
naturally, she agreed.
it leaves her laying in the soft grass of a hill that is far too familiar – he has frequented this place for years, and many a time she has been brought along. it’s always peaceful, time spent on that hill, and though she cannot help but feel something is different about this visit she allows herself the comfort of relaxation. regardless, their routine is established, and she shifts closer to him as he begins one of his tirades about astronauts past and present. the only thing that differs is his hand around hers, pulling it into the air, and the strange cold that finds its way around her ring finger –
wait.
she sits up perhaps faster than she ever has, stare wide - eyed and incredulous as her gaze darts between the simple gold band that now decorates her finger to kaito’s face – she so desperately wants to speak, to ask ( of course she understands, and she wants to say ‘ yes ‘ immediately. ) instead, however, she can’t seem to fully hold back the laughter that bubbles up, a few chuckles escaping as she leans forward, a hand reaching out to hold his once more.
❝ you’ve definitely surprised me … i kind of thought you’d make it a bigger deal than this. ❞ lightly, affectionately, she squeezes his hand, moving to twine their fingers together. ❝ … i love you, kaito. ❞
listen i have a huge weakness for moody grump/energetic sunshine ships ok

@luminaryway // post-simulation ( shuunsuke edition ) // sc.
Murky memories clouded the former detective’s thoughts as he once again mused over his time in the killing game. The simulation program was a strange one–for most participants, unless their separate personalities clashed violently, it would be difficult to distinguish what was ‘fictional’ in the Killing Game Program and what was truly ‘reality’ outside of it. Backstories would merge with personal history, motivations and desires would become suspicious, the list can go on. Once one wakes up, what could be true and what could be a lie…it was all very tricky.
And it didn’t help that they were all stuck inside Team DanganRonpa’s personal rehabilitation center and have yet been allowed to contact anyone from their original lives. No family, no friends, there was no one to confirm which memories were real and which were fiction.
So all Shuunsuke could do was sit there and daydream over and over and over again…and each time, his anger grew. Out of all his memories of the simulation, two stood out. One, the final trial, and the intense desire he felt to end the killing games permanently. Those feelings felt like such a lie, it was irritating! No, he didn’t want to end the killing games! These killing games were the only source of happiness he had, why would he want them gone?!
No…he himself didn’t want them gone. No…Saihara Shuuichi wanted them gone.
Shuunsuke bit his bottom lip as he glared out the window from his hospital bed, rage seething inside of him. Saihara Shuuichi…what a joke. Another memory that stood out was that coward’s weakness. Shuunsuke had volunteered for DanganRonpa because he had a dream–the dream of being the first blacken Detective, the dream of having his own, personally-planned execution, become reality. A twisted feeling of betrayal settled in the normie’s gut at the reminder that in the end, Team DanganRonpa didn’t listen to his wishes. While he had said in his audition tape that he would do anything to be in DanganRonpa, this turn of events was a huge letdown ( an understatement, if you ask him ). They made him into a protagonist character? Akamatsu aside, those characters weren’t all that interesting! They don’t normally murder! Unless the season’s ending is Despair, they never get an execution!
That was so boring!
Groaning, Shuunsuke decided it was finally time to leave this bland room. All the participants had the free range to visit each other, but the former detective had barred others from seeing him. He didn’t want those 'friends’ of his to waltz right in and expect him to be the wimpy sidekick that he was in the simulation, he didn’t want to deal with that disappointment from other fakes. Now, however…there was one person that Shuunsuke wanted to see for himself.
Momota Kaito…or whoever he truly was outside of that fictional world. He and Akamatsu Kaede where the only people Shuunsuke felt could trust at this point, and it was only thanks to those audition tapes. If those people were the real them, then surely they would be able to sympathize with him. Right now though, Shuunsuke only wanted to see the former astronaut. Perhaps it was because of their time spent in the simulation, but a shallow feeling of trust still resided within him.
Checking the other’s room first, Shuunsuke knocked thrice loudly and waited for a response–or lack therefore of.
Up, up, up. He was going higher and higher into the air in his tiny rocket ship. This was going to be it. He wasn't going to hold out much longer, the blood already seeping up into his throat from his lungs. But even though he was coughing it up, spattering it onto the interior of the metal dome, even onto the glass in the viewing window. But despite the blood, he could still see it. Kaito Momota was finally fulfilling his dream. Space was just outside his window.
Then, with the biggest smile he could muster, there was nothing.
Nothing felt like so long to him, like it had been a thousand years. His consciousness was foggy as finally something reaches out into the blackness to pull him awake and into something...bright. He must have finally made it somewhere good. Maybe now he'd be able to see his grandparents again-- see his mother and father.
He soon realizes that the brightness he was mistaking for the other side to be the bright florescent lights of a hospital room. Groaning, a shaking hand reaches up and tries to shield his eyes from it, hating it suddenly with every fiber of his being. Why was this light shining right in his face? And why the hell wasn't he dead?
"Ono? Ono Katashi?" a voice had broken him out of the grime and dizzying haze as his body was coming back from what felt like the dead. They repeated it a few times as he tried to process that they were talking to him. That's when everything came flooding back, making his head spin. He wasn't really Kaito Momota, Luminary of the Stars, Super High School Level Astronaut. He was just some high school kid with a bad attitude and a lot to make up for. In fact, compared to the character they'd given him, who he really was was rather lack luster.
But that was days ago. Katashi knew who he was now and was fully able to separate what had happened in the game and what was happening in real life. But this didn't make him feel any less angry or awful about what had transpired. Especially when he'd come to realize that the despicable lying sack of shit that was Kokichi Ouma was really his crybaby cousin, Kioshi. And on top of that, he'd had to witness the deaths of so many people that his persona had come to grow close to-- people that he still felt his own heart grieving for from time to time as it twisted up into his chest and caused him physical pain.
Yeah, physical pain over some damn fictional characters. He really felt like the butt end of a bad joke.
One good thing to come out of this whole mess had to be the fact that he could reassure himself that in just a few rooms over, Akabane Kana was waiting. They had gotten into this together and had known each other from school. Hell, they were friends, even. But he hadn't gotten a chance to see her since he'd woken up, yet. That needed to change, but currently, Katashi was finding it a little hard to get out of his recovery bed.
To say the least, this experience had really messed with his head.
KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK.
The sound of someone's fist colliding with his shut door wasn't surprising, the doctors that did their rounds to check up on him did it quite often. Though after waiting a few seconds for the door to open to find out that it wasn't going to peaked Katashi's interest. Who could be visiting? It wasn't like Team Danganronpa was allowing their families in just yet, after all.
He pulls himself out of bed, not really particularly caring that he was still in his pajamas, and makes his way over to the door, opening it up. In front of him stood the boy who had played his right hand man, his sidekick, Saihara Shuuichi. Something in Katashi's chest almost jumped for joy, but he quickly rationalizes with himself that this wasn't really that character. Just the boy who'd played him.
"What do you want?"
maskslain:
[ txt: Kaito ] youre wrong, you know… [ txt: Kaito ] i could never escape. not even from the start! [ txt: Kaito ] i dont want to drag you down with me
Since he'd first threatened to go to her place, Kaito had been on his way over. He was texting her the entire time, however, trying to keep her talking to him. But now that he stood in front of her front door, he didn't have any reason to keep typing. Instead, Kaito had run up to the front door and he pounded his fist against it, nearly making the frame shake.
"Hey! Maki! Open up!" he calls out through the wood. "I know you said you wouldn't but I'm not going to leave this spot until you do, got it?!"
maskslain:
@luminaryway liked this {x} for a starter!!
She was laid out on the grass, gazing at the nighttime sky. Because the weather was chilly, she brought a blanket with her. Maki detested the cold. Stargazing was better in the summer. Probably. She hadn’t made it a habit to look at stars, until recently. She blamed him for that. Nonetheless, she was waiting for him in the spot they agreed to. It wasn’t too cloudy either. It was nearly ideal.
“…You’re late, Kaito.”
He was late-- he knew that he was. A part of Kaito was wishing that Maki wouldn't notice, but he didn't expect her not to. She was always so vigilant, after all. So being chastised quietly was something that he had prepared himself for when he arrived to their previously agreed upon meeting spot for the night.
"Yeah, my bad. I was making this." he says, the slight smile on his lips never fading as he sits down next to her on the soft grass. He pulls a thermos out, handing it over to her. It was warm to the touch and full of tea that he had spent a few extra minutes preparing.
"It was supposed to be a little chilly and I thought I'd make us something to keep warm."

❝ i wish it were that easy … you know i’m trying. it’s easier said than done , though. they can’t control me, but i can’t control them , either. ❞
“I think you’re overthinking this too much, Maki Roll. You’re only responsible for yourself! You can’t really control what other people do, you know.”
“So, let’s all work hard to escape this place together! And once we get out of here and make it to the outside world… Why don’t we all stay friends?”

White day, huh. It wasn’t a day with much meaning to her at all. It wasn’t because she didn’t receive any presents on days like these, unfortunately she always did. Kana just didn’t have much interest in other people. Even if she’d accept the chocolates, would a relationship like that last? She doubted it, so why even trying? Believing in other people was a waste of time.
There was one annoying person though that just never gave up with approaching her. Katashi Ono, he was… someone who already took care of some people that were annoying to her, so it wasn’t like she disliked him like the others, but he still was someone who didn’t know when to give up.
Staring at the bag he dropped on her desk just now, she was unsure how to react. Still, a little part inside of her was happy about that and her slightly red cheeks probably gave her away. “…Thanks, you shouldn’t have though.”
And there it was. Any sign that he was looking for that maybe she thought of him a little differently than she thought of most people. He knew that she tolerated hanging around with him for the most part after he had taken care of some annoying guys for her. They weren't exactly friends but they did have some kind of small bond going. A part of him wanted to strengthen it, even if it meant to stooping as low as to do this. He'd never given out White Day gifts before.
"I know that." he scoffs a little, still trying to play it off as if he were just doing it to do it. "If you don't like it you don't have to eat it. I don't really care what you do with them-- they're yours now." he says, pocketing the one hand that wasn't holding his backpack over his shoulder.
A part of him wished she would eat it. Did she even like sweets? Weren't girls supposed to be into that kind of stuff? His sister, Yuui, was and so were all her little girlfriends. But then again, they were just kids.
ultimatepianobaka:
The blonde replied only with a weak smile. If Kaito really wanted to keep lying about his nice gesture, she wouldn’t bother him more about it. It would seem ungrateful, so sure, if he wanted to drop the topic, she would do him the favor.
“Super extra special, huh? You sure know how to make someone curious! I’m… I’m surprised you give me another present, thank you, Momota-kun! I can’t wait to see where you will lead me to!” Well, this sure did sound like some date, didn’t it? Not that it wasanything bad… But it did made her a little nervous. This didn’t change that she was still really excited about the whole thing. “Are you inviting me to a restaurant, Momota-kun?”
"Of course I want to give you another present! Why wouldn't I?" He states it so confidently, as if it was something that she should have been expecting from him. A girl like Kaede deserved to be treated right on days like this, after all! She's always putting her best foot forwards for everyone and everything and deserves someone to do the same for her.
Kaito also had a lot of respect for her ability to rally people together. It was a quality they shared, but she often beat him to the punch of saying inspirational things. A girl who was unpredictable needed something equally as unexpected to happen in her life, after all! Who better was to deliver that than Kaito?
"Ah man! You guessed it already?" He says, sighing a little as he rubbed the back of his head as she asks him if he was taking her out to a restaurant. "Well, even though you guessed it, it's still going to be one of the best days of your life! I'm going to make sure of that."
haruumaki:
she feels like hell. it’s nothing particlarly new, nothing she hasn’t yet come to expect – yet this time, she cannot help but wonder why it feels worse. her vision is too blurry for her to make out anything, and the low light suggests she is somewhere dark, but there is a shape beside her ( her memory proves decidedly unhelpful, refusing to supply any information about before she fell asleep. ) whatever it is, it seems to radiate warmth, a stark contrast to the chilling cold she feels, and the decision to curl up as close as possible is made within mere moments.
truthfully, she’s unsure of how long she spends drifting between sleep and wakeness, as every time she drifts off some ache or other drags her back. there are a few times where she rises, stumbling to the sink to hack and cough into it ( she prays that there is nobody around to see her in such a state, though logic supplies that there is no reason for anyone to be in her room ) though regardless she ends up curling back up against that warmth – she cannot quite come to terms with why she feels so unnaturally cold.
with a quiet sigh, she finally drifts off despite the pain in her chest and her uneven breathing, blood at the edge of her lips.

Kaito had been opposed to it at first. Sleeping together in the same bed? It was a little more than just questionable. He could hear his grandmother chastising him for even thinking about it to begin with ( it's so ungentlemanly! he can hear her yelling ) but he'd never been the one to turn down a friend in their time of need. Especially not Maki. She had been a tough, stubborn nut to crack, but him even more so. He'd been working hard since day one to get her to open up and try and see that there were people who cared about her for much more than what they thought her talent made her.
But when she'd opened up, the last thing he was expecting to hear was that she was terminally ill. Despite that knowledge, he'd been working hard with every trick in the book that he could think of to help her get better. Cold compress, hot compress, soup, blankets, cool baths, even going as far as to look and see if any herbal remedies were around ( that of which he had found none ). Maki wasn't going to be dying on his watch-- he would make sure of it.
That was why he was letting her sleep in his bed and take his warmth so that she wouldn't feel so bad through the night. Sometimes it was all chalked up to having another body there with you to make you feel better. That didn't seem to be the case tonight, however, as Kaito was waking up to the feeling of icy, clammy skin next to him. His eyes slowly open, blinking away the crust of sleep as he realizes that Maki was practically and ice pop right next to him.
Frantically, Kaito was shifting to pull her as close to his chest as he could, tucking the blankets around her small frame, all while grumbling under his breath.
"C'mon...You're not going cold on me, dammit! Maki Roll, wake up!"

“Untraditional? Momota-kun… those chocolates were bought ones, weren’t they?” She asked, though giggled right after, because she really didn’t care. “Untraditional or not, and selfmade or not, it still made me very happy and they tasted good! So thank you again!” His invitation did surprise the pianist quite a bit though. It was a rather bold question, but she didn’t feel like refusing him either.
“Y-you want to give me another present now too?” Kaede couldn’t help but blushing a bit before answering. Taking her somewhere… it sounded nice, a romantic person like Kaito Momota - Luminary of the Stars, surely would know some nice places. “Okay then, I’ll accompany you! Where are we going?”
"What? Store bought? I thought I told you that I made those!" He'll defend that little flub until he dies, probably. But, at least she admitted to liking them. Kaito, not wanting to stay on that topic for much longer, changes it quickly as she seemed shocked that he wanted to do something else for her, as well.
"Of course I do! Why wouldn't I want to give you something else today, too? This is going to be super extra special because it's coming from me, Kaito Momota, Luminary of the Stars!" He says, already knowing just the place to take her. Sure, it wouldn't be the fanciest place, but it was a nice, quiet little diner with good food. His grandparents used to take him there whenever they went into the city when he was growing up and it's a fond memory for him.
He wanted to take her somewhere special to him.
she shuffles closer to kaito in the middle of the night, only barely awake, eyes remaining closed. she can hear the dogs snuffling at each other at the foot of the bed, though the soft sounds are soon drowned out. her voice is slurred as she speaks, words and sounds muddled together. " it'd be so easy t' kill you right now. "
@haruumaki
It was a normal night and Kaito had just settled down into bed for the night, bringing Rocket with him. He’d been up late putting the finishing touches up on a project, but now that it was rearing almost one thirty in the morning, it was time to pack up for the night. After all, if he didn’t get enough sleep, how could he dream of finishing up the last bit of his quality work? A man needed his sleep, after all.
But right after he’d crawled into bed with his girlfriend and was drifting off into a peaceful dream land when she speaks. Her voice is so soft and warm, but her words are icy cold. Suddenly the warmth of her body does nothing to heat the chill that spreads through his veins and makes him feel like his heart was going to stop.
“M-Maki?!”
