A laugh of slight embarrassment sounded from his lips. ❝Ashy Slashy? Crazy? Nahhh..❞ Ash accepted her embrace, holding her to his hip as he tightened a hand over her own waist. ❝What are your plans, anyway? I don’t think I’ll be doing anything except sharing a bowl with Mia.❞
He had been feeling lonely and melancholy but just seeing Rebecca lifted his spirits up. His smile was genuine as well as the flush of color over his skin. Afraid of his own emotions, he would never admit this to her, let alone himself. And yet, he felt like he would never have to. Not with her.
Rebecca leaned into him and sighed, liking the feeling of him looking at her, not to sound unfeminist... but she’d never felt more special, or elated. Glancing up at him, she’d seen a change of character, and it was probably her intervention that caused it. Her blue eyes lit up with excitement, maybe they could be doing something.
“I don’t know, it looks like I would’ve been doing my work, but now you’re here, it’s all different now. Well, my mom is doing Thanksgiving, do you wanna maybe, come along?”
She tucked some hair behind her ear, nervously peered up at him through her lashes, if he WAS okay with it, her mother would love him dearly, and would probably blush at every one of his jokes.
❝Turkey day…Black Friday…What’s next? Christmas?❞, the young man grumbled to himself, standing outside the local grocery store. Ash was not a fan of familial holidays, obviously. It reminded him of the loss of his mother and the shit his father had put him through. It recalled to mind of how his sister no longer spoke to him and all he had was a cousin who was just as broken as he was.
❝Groovy.❞, he dribbled out sardonic venom from his mouth. The huge turkey balloons danced along with the cooling wind, taunting him with their large goofy eyes. BIG SALE!!! A balloon sign on their chests read. Gobble, gobble ya turkey necks…
Rebecca peered over to see the profile of her lover/could be boyfriend. A smile lit up on her face, her footsteps were slow as she inhaled his scent, and a dainty arm wrapped itself around his waist.
“I agree with you that thanksgiving is stupid holiday, but if you keep talking to yourself people will think you’re crazy..”
She spied what he was glaring at, the turkeys on display, stuffed and tied up. She grimaced, and let go of him, leaning into his side, and adjusted her beret, trying to distract herself from the gaping balloons.

Anxious, he stuffed his hands into his pockets and played it cool. ❝Groovy.❞ He led her outside to the patio in the backyard where there was nobody else but the moon shining down on them. Now, how to explain why he’d gone and flipped on her, acted like a jackass and went ape-shit..“Hey sorry that I flipped on you, acted like a jackass and went ape-shit! :D” Yeah, right.
❝So you know that I acted like a real ass…I didn’t mean to hurt you, sweetheart.❞ His voice had gotten deeper as it lowered down to a soft wisp. And still, he refused to utter those two words:I’m sorry. It was hard enough to own up to his mistakes—if he even acknowledged them at all—but to say that he was repentant was just a massacre of his own character.
This was a half-ass apology and if she were to walk out on him now, he’d understand. As much as he wanted this to work and wanted a chance to get know this woman better, he could not for the L I F E of him get himself to humble himself enough. ❝I-it’s just that…❞ His voice faltered, dying on him, fading away in his throat.
Those dark eyes glanced away just to stare at anything but the beautiful person before him. The grass was just a deep-looking pool of onyx abyss. The moonlight lighting up the wooden deck, it cast long and dark shadows behind each figure. It was breathtaking, but if he were to gaze any longer, his mind would take him to unspeakable places…
A frustrated sigh left his lips as Ash fixed his dark brown eyes on Rebecca. ❝Let’s cut the shit. Rebecca, I am interested in you.❞ He tugged on her arm, bringing her up to him, their chests pushed into the other. ❝Gimme some sugar.❞ A passionate kiss was planted on her lips, both of his hands wrapped around her waist. It felt right as though she was created solely for his arms to hold. He shut his eyes as he focused on the sweet scent of her perfume. the way her breathing quickened, how he could hear her heartbeat beginning to sync with his. And how warm she felt beside his skin like a small fire.
As soon as their lips had touched, he could feel that same electric charge shoot through his entire body. It was like he was being brought to life like some kind of undead beast. It was a surreal sensation that he couldn’t put into words beyond groovy.
And Lord, he did not want to let go.
Rebecca tried to avoid looking at him, she did not want to for some reason... it didn’t make her uncomfortable, but her feeling were on an overload. But when he apologised she wanted to shut down almost, shutting down, and becoming cold, and detached was what she did best.
But a tugging on her arm sent jolts down her body, and she couldn't help it, she was being called in by sirens song, plunged under, into the murky depths of which she didn't want to return, but willingly accepted it’s sweet embrace.
She breathed in his scent, and closed her eyes, feeling alive, more so than she did a few moments ago. When their lips met, and his arms were already wrapped around her waist, she curled her arms around his neck, as she did that night they kissed in the bar. She moved closer towards him, body pressed so tight to his, wanting more, feeling more, and never wanting to part from his grasp.
Her eyes pried open for a moment, just to admire the dozy looking Ash Williams in front of her, his appearance was so angelic, you'd think he was some kind of ethereal creature sent to ruin and uplift her also.
“Well, apology accepted I suppose...”

The car had been parked cleanly across the street, and looking through the blinds, he could see how much of a party it was. People’s shadows moved across the blinds, lights even flashing out to greet him. Muted bass vibrated against the buildings, coming out in low beats towards him.
He turned away from the scene and grabbed a bottle of Smirnoff vodka from the passenger’s seat (he was not one to come to party without a gift) and opened the car door to step out. Williams shut the door behind him, starting his walk over to Beau’s place. Feet scuffed lightly, almost missing the front step but there he stood before the door.
A prosthetic hand knocked on the door, vodka in the other hand. Ash smiled to himself, thinking about how funny life could be at times. They had survived an alligator attack and now they were going to just kick it here. Connections were made even after a near-death experience! He wasn’t waiting too long before the door opened, revealing a rascally grin and Beetle-juice, himself. ❝Yo, Beej! Nice fiesta! Brought ya something.❞ The Smirnoff was handed over, which pleased BJ immensely for he let Ash in before heading to the kitchen to open it.
Ash didn’t have a chance to ask where the drinks were for the man had vanished. He rubbed his jaw, taking a glance around for a familiar face to ask for a glass or something. Almost immediately, he noticed that poor Angela was standing there awkwardly. She appeared to wish she could leave, but thankfully his own cousin Mia was beside her, comforting her. A glass of water was in the shy girl’s hand, giving him relief because if anything happened to her, he’d hear from Thomas first thing!
Waving to Mia,he was about to head over to her until he detected her blanch slightly, her green eyes slipping to the side before returning to him. She smiled back too late, arousing his curiosity as to the change in her appearance.
Apparently word got out fast, because when he whipped his head to the side, he also blanched. He felt his face grow hot and he tried to pretend that he didn’t see Rebecca looking fine as hell in her chic outfit.
His eyes were on Mia, giving her a soft death glare. Don’t say anything, they said. ❝Hey cuz. How’re you doing, Angel-face?❞ Ash touched Angela’s shoulder tenderly, giving her a smile that she half returned. Her fingers were wrapped tightly around the glass; she was extremely anxious. His cousin threw back his dark stare, her lips pursed in disapproval. “Why don’t you say hi or something? Everyone is saying you’re an asshole.”
❝I am an asshole❞, Ash replied in a curt tone. He snatched Allen’s beer from her hands and took a hard swig as though to prove his point. ❝What for? I already screwed it up. She deserves better than a man like me.❞ His back leaned against the wall, forcing Angela to back away to the side.
Allen’s eyes narrowed further, her arms crossing against her chest. “Pussy. I’ll talk to her myself if you want.” She made a motion as if to walk from him, but he grabbed her arm, pulling her back. ❝Whoa, hey! Hold on, sister! If you’re going to be bossin’ me around all night about it, I’ll do it myself. I don’t need help from anyone.❞ Wiliams shoved the beer to her chest, pushing her back a little.
With a silent huff, he marched over to where Rebecca was hiding among her friends, one of which was giving him an ugly look. He acted like he wasn’t nervous, lifting his hands up to show he “meant no harm.”
❝Evening, ladies. You know why I’m here. Rebecca, can we talk?❞ Arms lowered as he sighed deeply. Being this close to her set his heart to racing and he realized how much he missed her. ❝Please?❞
Rebecca was at a loss, but she tried to distract the clenching feeling in her stomach by drinking some beer that Lydia handed her, probably to lower her inhibitions and try and find something to occupy her with, while Ash skated around the room, probably trying to find someone twice as cute as her, is hat why he had come? To rub it in her FACE. A shaky sigh escaped her and she took another sip, crossing her legs and fiddling with a loose piece of string on her skirt.
A knee nudged her, and she nearly spilled her drink, realising it was Brigitte she quickly saw the handsome rascal herself standing in front of her, it was like something out of a cliche movie, outsider meets the rebel. Her blue eyes peered up at him, curious, and frozen, cold almost... perhaps he noticed that, and it made him nervous.
She considered her options carefully, but she felt a nagging feeling in her gut, she always trusted it... and it screamed at her to go with him, despite her perseverance and stubbornness, she decided to go with it, whats the wort that could happen? If he was an asshole Lydia would just ruin him, and get Beau to kick him out most likely, and without hesitation. With a exhale of breath, and wondering if she would regret it, she stood up and wiped her hands on her skirt.
“Yeah, sure.... lets go outside if you want.”

He chuckled softly, sharing the sentiment.
“Hopefully more tarot cards than what she has. Maybe some runes. Black candles or at least materials for em…” He hummed softly, considering the various supplies he was running low on.
Rebecca’s eyes lit up at the tarot, the madame had promised her that new readings would be available soon enough, she was excited for that.
“Oh yeah, Leota promised she’d give me new reading, celtic is good for a spread, and i’m excited to see how the other cards look.” She turned away from him for a moment to pick up a small pebble of onyx.
“What are you buying? Lydia said she wanted to try a few spellbooks, any success with that?”

Thomas nodded with a smile.
“Prevision’s a cloudy art… But an interesting one. And you may have, though I don’t believe your library carries it. It’s a story with a ghost in it,” he said, fondly recalling her abject refusal to call it a ghost story.
“Definitely, I never really meddled in it, but my friend is a pretty developed expert.” She let out a little laugh under her breath, as she recalled Lydia with her ruins, and cards trying to figure out what the future held for the both of them.
“That’s a shame, I’d love to read it... the a paranormal fascinates me a lot, reason why i’m so enamoured with this tore.” Her blue eyes passed around the grand walls, and shelves and caught Madame Leota’s, she gave a fond smile and nod to the woman.
“maybe i’m too young to keep good love from going wrong but tonight you’re on my mind so you never know”

As soon as she had begun to turn around, Ash wanted to call her back to him. He wanted to apologize or something, to get her another drink and pretend that this hadn’t happened. Instead, he just sat back and took a long drink from the bottleneck. ❝Don’t bet on it.❞
Three weeks had passed and Ashley had attempted to put this behind him. He had even taken that bartender’s Kandi’s number, trying to mend his hurt feelings. The young man assumed that he’d never see that girl again, avoiding the college like the Black Death, as well as making sure to never be around orchestras. His mistake was going to be a one-time thing.
At least that’s what he told himself while he toiled at his workplace. It was an extremely long day for him, these thoughts piling up much like the wood his machinery knocked down. So deep in thought was he at times, that his boss and several coworkers had to step right in front of him to get his attention. “I need you sharp, Ash! Pay attention to what you’re doing!”, his foreman had shouted with an expression of stern concern. He shook his head clear, giving it his all to get through this one task. And this was done several more times.
Finally, it was about that time. Equipment was put back as the lumber mill started to close for the day. His partner Thomas tapped his shoulder gently as a form of greeting, saying “Good night, see ya tomorrow” with his dark eyes. Ash smiled at him, giving his own sendoff before he walked into the backroom.
The time card was pulled out of the sleeve and he tucked it into the tiny box on the wall. It rang, accepting his time out. Just as he was about to put it back into its home, his phone buzzed, the screen lighting up with a notification. “Party tonite! You up to hang? ;p”
His eyes squinted, looking for the contact who had sent this. He swiped the screen, tapping on the text message. A look of amusement crossed his features; it was that guy.
“Sure! Always down for a shindig.Where’s it at?”, Williams texted back. His phone was tucked into his back pocket, heading for the exit. His backside vibrated with another message being received. “My place. You coming?”
He shook his head with a smirk of mischief on his lips. His car was not far ahead, Linda sitting there beautifully, waiting for him. Dark eyes studied her, debating between self-care or self-harm. Not another moment passed until he gave his response. “Hell yeah, gimme ten minutes.”
The car door opened and he plopped himself into the driver’s seat. Linda was turned on, backing up out of the parking spot a minute later. With his foot on the gas, he sped out of there for a night with friends.
Rebecca distracts herself with different things, writing, reading, studying that would make her laugh, hell... she even considers getting high with Lydia, just for forget the weird sense of loss of something new. But, she just does most of those things, and yet questions still sprang to mind, pondering things didn’t help her case.
Truth be told, when walking into college, she THOUGHT she saw a flash of leather jacket that seemed awfully familiar, her blue eyes peered at the sight, but it had to be somebody else she’d supposed.
After lying with Lydia on her bed, and talking about other mundane things while the rain poured outside, she decided to accept her offer of some kind of party that was being thrown, Beau and she had become better acquainted, and seeing the mischievous and offbeat man would put a smile on her face, not to mention the dynamics between he and Lydia would brighten her evening.
As she readied herself for this party, or get together she guessed... a feeling of being third wheel was pushed aside from the happiness of seeing Lydia and Beau together, it was something she could sense would be revealed tonight, and she was happy for it.
Stepping out her yellow cab, and adjusting her skirt, she spotted Beau’s place and her hand reached into her pocket and double checked the address. She sighed in relief, but her gaze spotted a car driving past her...
Wait... that couldn’t be?
Not waiting an answer, she scurried aside and knocked on Beau’s door, her feelings muddle with sickness, and murky emotions that emitted, paranoia mostly. After what seemed like a LIFETIME the door swung open, and she was met with the face of Beauregard.
After some mustered greetings, and a beer in her hand her paranoia faded slightly, that was UNTIL a knock on the door sounded firmly, and her eyes, shocked and full of knowing darted to Lydia’s who could only stare back, stunned also at their predicament they both didn’t expect.

Lydia couldn’t hide the look of disappointment that colored her features. As much as she had been concerned for her friend when she had first mentioned Ash, after meeting him, Lydia had thought that he might be an alright guy. It appeared he really was just the bad guy douche bag she had pegged him as.
Lydia rubbed Rebecca’s arm comfortingly. “He’s an asshole,” she said decidedly. “And he has no idea what he’s missing. If there is another girl she’s not nearly as amazing as you are.” She smiled reassuringly.
“I promise you I’m not gonna let that asshole, or any asshole, hurt you again, okay? I’ve got your back.” She laid down beside her friend, offering her a pinky. “I pinky promise you.”
Rebecca smiled and then leaned into Lydia’s touch, she was grateful to have someone to vent to, and was happy enough to tell her that she didn’t know why Ash was acting that way... he just went off for no reason.
“Thanks Lyd, you’re always there for me. Yeah I guess he wasn’t meant to be, lucky you haven’t met him, right?”
Her blue eyes darted towards the pinky, as her smile grew despite her inner self feeling wounded, and weirdly sad. Her own pinky linked with hers and she let out a slight laugh, she tugged her pinky with Lydia’s.
“Thank you, I seem to attract them wherever I go... it’s pretty weird. It’s the same here you know.” She turned her head towards her, facing her. “You can count on me to protect you from assholes who want you to their manic pixie dream girl...”

“At least they don’t have Pine Needle lattes for Christmas. But I really wonder where the idea to make pumpkin a part of anything coffee related happened. Since when did Pumpkin carving turn into candles and expensive Starbucks? ‘Happy Halloween, here’s your pumpkin spice latte. Come again.’
“Make those cookies White Chocolate Macadamia and you have yourself a deal. We can stuff our faces and wonder where the world went wrong.”
“It’s consumerism... I think you’re onto something you know? The Pine Needle latte is the best thing i’ve heard all day. I would say consumerism it was the worst thing to happen to any holiday I enjoy, but they did it with Christmas, Easter... Gay Pride.. You know? It’s exploitation at it’s finest.”
“I’ll bring the cookies, and the flask, will it be tea or hot chocolate?”
say-it-thrice
Beau turned back to see who was talking to him and nodded. He’d seen her picture before from his Lydz, and knew from the same source that she was good people. So he nodded with an easy smile.
“Beau Jaeger, at your service. You must be Rebecca? Her best gal pal?”
“Yeah, I can’t believe we haven't run into each other before, or Lydia’s introduced us... she mentions you A L O T.”
She smiled at him, returning his friendly stance and feeling like she’d been slightly star struck by how enigmatic he seemed to come off... it came off in waves, not unlike Lydia it seemed.
“I’m glad i’m not the only who’s obsessed with Leota’s, I come here a lot... i’m happy there’s new stock coming in very soon, I wonder what’ll bring?”
a-pure-soul-to-be-redeemed
Thomas nodded and gazed around in slight fascination. Perhaps he could stretch this into multiple articles….
“I do indeed. My fiancée actually is a published novelist as well. Her writing is much better, I assure you,” he added with a soft chuckle.
“Thomas Sharpe, by the way. Lovely to make the acquaintence of a fellow bookworm. Ancient divination, you said? Like dowsing and runestones? Tarot?”
Rebecca couldn't help but feel glad about the love in his eyes, there was something so touching about seeing a couple truly into one another, it was a refreshing change from the liaisons of her, and her friends she guessed.
“That’s really sweet, I wouldn’t have come across one of her novels, right?”
She smiled and nodded her head, keeping her books clutched to her chest. Her eyes peered towards the shelf, different sorts lied upon her wooden frames, it would be hard for a beginner to comprehend the difference she supposed.
“I’m Rebecca Attacus, it’s ice to meet you. Oh yeah, they have tarot, and rune stones mostly.. they’re pretty popular with the customers at the moment.”
lydia-the-strange
Lydia sat at the foot of the bed, watching her friend with concern. “What happened, Rebecca?” She didn’t like seeing her friend this way. Whatever happened must have been pretty bad.
“You don’t have to worry about Barb, she won’t be home for awhile,” she assured her. She placed a comforting hand on Rebecca’s leg. “It’s just you and me, okay? And I’m here for you, whatever you need. Just tell me what happened.”
Hopefully it wasn’t some scummy guy. If it was, Lydia had no problem taking care of it. Whoever hurt her friend was gonna have Hell to pay.
She watched Lydia, a pensive look came over her face. A sigh escaped her mouth as she nodded, and swallowed. “It’s that guy, Ash.” A sudden sadness filled her chest it pushed froward, and she wondered if could treat it as a joke, it was just one kiss right? And a fight...
“We kind of kissed, and he randomly said out of thin air, ‘we can’t do this.’ And then it was this big thing where...” She rolled her eyes at the memory of him, in pure annoyance if anything. “I got bothered, because he was frustrated, I didn’t know why, he just... went off I guess, he literally gave NO explanation. He said ‘go back to you friend and cry about it.. ‘ or something like that..” She curled up her knees to her chest and shook her head. He was so annoyed.
She sat in silence for a moment, staring at Lydia's bedspread. “I think there might be somebody else, he might love some other girl.. i’m not a sidechick, he knows that.”
