Eeey, so over the next while this blog will be moving to @luminousinheritance which.. yea. totally creative on my part and not the LEAST bit confusing but :P
Had Celice really been able to change so quickly? He seemed to much more lighthearted now, and it made Leaf able to calm down and smile at him. It was much better this way, even if Celice seemed a little childish sometimes. That was fine though; perfectly fine. Leaf felt more at ease in this moment now than he had in quite a while. It wasn’t just that he had a technical roommate now, but it was clear it was possible to fix whatever had been broken.
It was nice watching him laugh though, and it was a sound Leaf had not heard in his own home in quite so time. He really did miss the laughter of his own house, seeing his mother run around making absolutely sure everyone was doing well each day. If possible, he truly did want to get together with his family again. If he could perhaps found his twin out here someday, then they really could visit. It wasn’t possible to stay there for too long, of course, considering his situation, but his family knew about that. He had not lied to them, and there had always been honesty in that family.
“Hehe… It’s okay. I’ll clean it while you keep watching.” Moving to do so, he did think about getting said pet. It wouldn’t be bad to just adopt one of three at a time, giving it enough time between each adoption to get all the animal’s necessities and to allow it to settle in. Knowing the dangers of being an immortal, he could always contact his family and inform them of the new pet, so if anything happened to him there would be someone to care for it. No doubt one of the other immortals would contact them if something did happen to Leaf, and this was a much better way to get over his fear of an animal being left alone.
Finishing cleaning, he settled back on the bean bag beside Celice, deciding none of this really even sounded bad. It was a good chance for him to be able to change a bit, and maybe he wouldn’t have to seem to melancholic anymore. Right… All he had to do was breathe a bit and calm down now. If he took things more slowly now, he wouldn’t have to stress so easily. It was odd how having his eyes on the movie made him realize that was something he lacked in his life lately; that smile on the boy’s face as his dog unintentionally and quite frantically slid down a slide and into a pool.
Not only that, but strangely enough to Leaf, this was an opportunity. He could truly have someone to trust, and right now, it was completely as if this boy was not an angel at all. Like things had, for this one moment, gone entirely back to normal. What had happened back at that building… Perhaps he could write it off for now, since something like this had happened in return. No doubt things would get shaky at some point, but… this… was the kind of life he was waiting for. “By the way… thank you, Celice. When we get a dog, why don’t you be the one to name him or her?”
Betrayal…? To who? To people he generally cared nothing for? It was no betrayal in Reef’s eyes; not when he had a sentient angel holding him like this and sharing kisses with him. He had slept with plenty of angels to lure them in and kill them, but he was more than okay with doing the same with this one without the killing part. He had been attracted to other angels solely from the instinct of being an immortal, but this was more than that. This felt wrong; like something he shouldn’t have been doing, and that just made him want to do it more. It was even more exciting this way.
“Ciel… Your name suits you perfectly. You really are heavenly… I can’t tell if you’re more gorgeous smiling like that, or keeping to that small smirk…” Ah, but this person was exactly his type, wasn’t he? Mischievous and controlling, full of an ego. There was a serene face that masked his ill intentions to others, and this angel was nothing short of exciting for Reef. Perhaps in part it was his libido speaking, but that certainly did not change that this was exactly the kind of person Reef was drawn to. A beautiful face and yet such a sly personality…
“Ah, but see… I don’t know many of the other immortals, and some I do know are still my enemies. It’s not that important anyway if I have my own problems solved. They know the dangers of being immortal.” In that sense, they both got something out of it. It was sounding quite worth it to stay near Ciel, even if this encounter had been an accident. As much as Reef was used to running into angels unexpectedly, this had moved so fast. He couldn’t simply ignore though that this person looked far too much like Celice, and from what he knew, Celice had been Sigurd’s only child. The power he could feel from him was also more than Celice could likely give out even if he was an angel.
An accident it truly was, but a good one. It was also possible he could get Ciel’s help in destroying the people he wanted to get rid of. For now though, it was better he got situated with his new partner. If Ciel touched him this way and held him this way all the time, he would see to it that that kind of attention was well rewarded however Ciel saw fit. It just felt… so sweet being near someone so dangerous who smiled so serenely. Pressing another kiss much more firmly to the other lips, he pulled away only to speak again.
“You say the land is pitiful, my dear, but you want to rule something pitiful? Are you planning on altering it to become your own land? But a god like you… It would be interesting to see the land you make while I break people to submit to you. Maybe it sounds like a silly fantasy, but it’s one I would enjoy. For now though, why don’t you take me to your place? I want to know… more about His Highness, Lord Ciel~.”
A light giggle was let out as he realized how strange this had all been, but he didn’t mind. His heart was racing far faster than he could breathe, though on the outside he remained perfectly calm. “I want to know more about the person who excites me this way… because you’re the first to be able to do this to me. I’m also honored someone who could have truly killed me instead of this would look at me so fondly.” It definitely was not the wings, as he was in his right mind now and the wings were safely away for now. No, some part of him truly wanted this, and the amount of danger involved made it even more worth it.
“Mmm...?” Name something? That was a lot of responsibility, but not as much as actually caring for another life would be. Celice just happened to be a bit fussy with names and something like ‘fido’ or ‘shiro’ wouldn’t do the trick for him. With a tilt of his head he decided that it was probably something he was capable of though, at least once he met the dog.
“Okay. I’ll think of some good names then.”
It might not have been Leaf’s intention but the task gave him something to focus on once the last of the movie’s credits had rolled. Even when he caught himself sniffling at the heartwarming ending where they’d been able to save all of the dog’s puppies from a dogfighter... animals were so sweet and innocent, they didn’t deserve people treating them harshly like that.
His demeanor grew melancholy once more as he tugged softly where fingers gripped his own pants. The fact that people existed in this world that would harm others for selfish reasons or no reason at all was disgusting enough without them involving beings that couldn’t even comprehend it.
“People like that should just go die. I don’t... I have no desire to see anyone or ... or anything suffer. Being arrested, isn’t that ... ah, too kind for someone like that?”
How strange. He had expected Reef to back off the moment he dropped his outward influence entirely and yet the immortal instead chose to cling more even though he must be fully aware of the dangers he was facing now. This sort of closeness was desirable to Ciel, for he couldn’t say he had been entirely without loneliness during his years of existence. The immortals and angels he toyed with had always been little more than that, none had actually reciprocated any sort of affection outside of instinct alone.
“You flatter me. Although it is suspicious -- I’ve dropped my influence and yet your heart still races with excitement. It is as if you actually desire something in me.” Not that he minded, no. Such a trait was good, useful. Reef was willing to admit he had enemies and that he had no qualms in disposing of them. He was honest then, wasn’t he? More honest than most people who would hold on to some semblance of morals for no reason other than to feel ‘good’ about themselves.
“Mmm, well it doesn’t matter to me. Stay by my side and you shall have my protection. Perhaps I’ll tell you of the kind of world I would choose to rule over, given you manage to survive long enough at my side.”
Finally he backed away from Reef and beckoned with a hand. “Flying would be far too obvious in a place like this. Come with me, I will show you my -- our -- home. You will need to learn the way there, ah--”
He trailed off momentarily, words caught in the air before he tilted his head back to look at the brunet once more. The expression he wore was once again completely innocent, no sign of his manipulative nature present as he spoke using his public-facing persona.
“Your name is...?”
Did he really not remember? Whatever had happened to him, if it made him forget even details like that, it had been horrible… Leaf was grateful he was so elated right now, but he could also feel plaguing concern. It was obviously possible to return Celice’s humanity to him, but there were likely parts of him that would take quite a bit of time to get back. Even then, he wasn’t sure he could truly recover all of Celice’s memories. Did that mean… Celice had forgotten their time together in the past, even if it wasn’t much?
At the moment, he wasn’t entirely sure what to focus on. While it was good Celice was doing better so quickly, the extent of the damage of Celice’s mentality wasn’t something he could push aside for later. Still, he didn’t want Celice to notice there were heavy thoughts on his mind and lose that cheeriness he had only just shown. The lives of angels and immortals were generally quite horrible, and Leaf would never understand the thoughts of a person who wished to be immortal like this.
“If you… plan to stay here, we can get a dog. One of the really small ones, preferably, since I’m not too fond of huge dogs… but I love animals. If you want a dog, once we’ve gotten you settled in here a bit, we can get one.” Truthfully, the only reason he hadn’t gotten any animals yet was out of fear. He knew he would never age whilst they did, and they would eventually die. It was normal for humans to outlive animals, but how many would he see die if his life as an immortal lasted hundreds of years?
If Celice stuck around here, perhaps he could ease up on that fear a bit more. At least someone would be left here and he wouldn’t be alone again. The day would also come when his parents and other family would leave him to death, and it wouldn’t be so bad living with someone else who was immortal. As things were now, he knew he wouldn’t be able to stand living alone for hundreds of years like this. Being able to help someone or even talk to someone like this practically felt like the best thing he’d known in far too long. Wasn’t it… the same way for Celice right now? Was he… feeling this strange, bubbling happiness?
Reef wasn’t sure whether or not he should be angry hearing that laughter. He was certain he was being mocked, but this wasn’t the time to try to act superior and push his ego into someone else’s face. Through all the angels he’d seen, this one completely kept himself together, while Reef could not do the same. Rather… all the angels he’d killed up until now he had been able to fight back against. He had been able to resistant enough, and to not be able to with this one told him enough.
At the very least, he knew he wouldn’t have felt this hazy near any other. This matched up to a handful of angels in regard to the weaker resistance he presently had. He hadn’t moved while Ciel came closer, but it took more strength than he wished it to not to grab onto him and stay close to him as soon as the angel laid a hand on him.
“Keep…?” Well, that hadn’t exactly been in Reef’s plans. On top of that, it seemed the angel before him definitely did know about Celice. As things stood now, Reef had not yet been able to find that person, and there were plenty of people who had been looking for long enough. Even if he couldn’t tell what this person’s plans were, it didn’t seem he was particularly fond of Celice… and maybe it was thus better Reef didn’t know his whereabouts at this time.
“I really don’t know what it would take to convince someone who could kill me at any time… All the angels I’ve met until now, I’ve… been able to fend off fine. Once I’ve finished what I need to do, you can do whatever you want with me. As it is, I never had to worry about this before because I knew none of those lesser angels could best me. Besides, I… have never met an angel that has full control of himself… You’re… dangerous… but if one of those conditions is worshiping you to stay alive, I’ll make sure you have an ego worthy to match your power by the end of every day. You’re dangerous, but… interesting.”
Most angels really would have attacked on the spot and not bothered to listen to him. If anything, he was lucky this one in particular was more reasonable. Even if his goals were sinister, none of that mattered to Reef. He had never gotten overly involved with other immortals, and if he could at least accomplish the most important things for himself and his family, it was fine. If he was this wrapped up in himself, it shouldn’t be too difficult to stay on his good side.
Moving forward, he wrapped his arms around the other’s waist, pressing their lips together briefly, realizing he felt much better after doing so. There had been plenty of times he’d had little choice but to handle things like this, but this one was… overpowering. His body moved with lack of thought, though maybe he was safer this way. If feeding his ego was that important, he would pass this easily enough, wouldn’t he? Another longer kiss, and was sure to remember this taste. It would be one he would get used to quickly, no doubt.
“You said you… wanted to keep me. I have no other company anyway, and… if you’re okay extending my life, you can do what you want with me in that time. I’ll bring you other immortals to devour in the meantime. If you’re going to let me live, I owe you at least that much. If my life is going to be on loan… I wouldn’t mind the company of someone beautiful… and someone I can actually lose to… I’ll do what I need to stay in your favor until this is over.”
The angel remained oblivious to Leaf’s concerns about him, rocking side to side idly as he remained stretched out on the bean bag and watched the movie, being sure to not make too much of a mess as he scooped popcorn into his mouth. The lacking memories were something he’d grown accustomed to and had decided to not dwell on, for doing so only made things worse. Instead, he chose to be happy whenever he did recall something, especially when it was a fond memory.
When Leaf mentioned the possibility of adopting a dog Celice quickly propped himself up on his elbows and turned towards the brunet with a wide smile, eyes practically sparkling at the idea. A home and a dog... it would almost be like having a proper family and place to exist again. Truly he wasn’t good enough to deserve this luck but he wouldn’t reject it either, not when he was beginning to notice how desperately Leaf didn’t want to be left alone. For that reason then he would stay, to protect Leaf from that lonliness.
“I’d like that!” He beamed and pushed himself up so he was sitting on his knees. He brushed some stray hair from his eyes before continuing. Even a small dog would be nice, something to raise and take care of, as well as snuggle with when it got cold. There were a lot of places to get dogs, right? And that meant they could probably find a perfect one if they looked hard enough.
“We can go to the shelter and... and find one that’s a. ...ahh, uhm... like me. A.. a stray! That’s it! We can adopt a stray!” They could adopt a dog that needed a home, the same way that Leaf was willing to shelter him. Excited, Celice almost forgot there was a movie playing as he leaned over towards Leaf in his chatter, bringing his hand down heavily on the small table enough to rock it and send popcorn flying everywhere.
“Ahhh! Oops!” It was a mess, but the absurdity of the entire situation led Celice to simply start giggling again.
Flattery was enough to humor the angel and the embrace with the kisses that followed cemented one thing in the male’s mind: he liked this immortal. Others who cried or spat crudely at him weren’t worth anything past the time it took him to kill them so someone who was already willing to take a metaphorical (and perhaps literal) knee was more than welcome. That touch and the words that followed gave rise to a small chuckle.
“You would bring me others?” The very thought was entertaining to outlandish proportions. Didn’t these immortals usually band together? And here this one was so ready to throw them to the wolves, not to mention capable of just he perfect amount of flattery.
Ciel’s arms followed suit in finding their way around the other’s waist, stroking down his sides and then gently cupping his rear as he pulled Reef against his body. “Isn’t that some sort of betrayal to your kind? Ah, not that I mind, of course. Those foolish enough to not bow down to me deserve their deaths.” As it should be. He would become something unlike anything that had existed before, and that this one had recognized that -- well, he couldn’t say he disliked the inflated sense of ego that gave him.
Betrayal suited someone so adorable, anyway. The idea that a cute person like this could ruin the lives of others, that he was willing to give up his own self for his own pursuits; all of those things make Ciel giddy with excitement. He’d certainly come across a fun toy this time, hadn’t he? One he might be able to get more than a few days out of.
Furthermore, the possibility that keeping him around could further his own goals was enticing. He could do worse than a desirable companion that knew his place, certainly. Even if he tried to stab Ciel in the back later - well, Ciel would deal with it if it got to that point. He was above worrying about the capabilities of a pitiful immortal anyway.
“Very well, then~. A proper god needs disciples and I will gladly take you in as my own.” A warmer, less chilling chuckle followed as he dispersed his wings once more and brushed his loose hair back over his shoulder. “You may address me as ‘my Lord’ if you so choose, but I will also allow you to make use of my name. I am Ciel, and I am the one who will become the true god of this pitiful land.”
While this was much different from back then, it was true he had fallen asleep holding his hand once. That had been the night Leaf had realized he didn’t want to be without him, though that was still true now. That had been part of why that dream had been so awful, and part of why he had woken up so terrified. He had little doubt Celice would have eventually been killed in that dream, and considering the enemies involved, it would have been cruel.
Maybe he didn’t have to be afraid of a dream, but with it being his own fears, and when it felt so real… something like that only served to cause worry. What if something like that did happen one day? That was another reason that dream was too much for him. Some of the people present there wouldn’t be around in the real world anymore, but any of number of enemies could be there to make up for it.
Worse, it would probably be the infamous Lopt Sect that they had been dealing with for far too long. He had it; how everything ultimately came down to it being their presence that caused all this suffering. Not just to him, but to countless people. With them working among the shadows of everything, it really did boil down to it being their work. Whenever something happened, it was almost undoubtedly them using other people as their tools and puppets.
Hearing his words caused brief panic in the other teen. Afraid of him? There was no reason to be. If anything, it was entirely the opposite. Right now, he wanted to keep him close - too close - out of fear that if he they parted ways for only a moment that they would again become separated. The worst case happening from that would be the events of that nightmare.
“No! It’s not you! I’m not afraid of you!” Afraid to lose him, yes… but of him? This war had gotten out of hand, hadn’t it… For so many things to happen to the point where Celice would believe Leaf was afraid of him because of a dream… Taking a shaky breath, he leaned into Celice further, hand gripping the one that held his more tightly.
“I know why I’m afraid of the other you…but that doesn’t mean it has anything to do with you. It’s because I could never hurt him. Someone with the same face and voice as you… I wouldn’t be able to hurt him. I know that… Even when he appears in my dreams, like tonight… even when it’s not real, I still can’t. He… didn’t hurt me though. There’s something else about him that’s not like you. Something else that’s… always putting me on edge. Most likely, it’s the effect of the dark magic warping your own feelings. It’s that part of him that shows up in my dreams. I’m not afraid that he’s so possessive… but when he is, there’s something else… but I don’t know what it is. But… I do know it’s not you. I’m warm and safe right now… and that’s you.”
This was the warmth he went to when he was unnerved. Even if he was afraid of Celice, how could he stay that way with him holding him like this? Even then, there was no way he would be content knowing Leaf was worried about him. If Leaf had pulled away and admitted to being concerned, or even only admitting such a thing, that would hurt Celice. That was why Leaf was grateful to himself, knowing he truly was not afraid. It was never Celice he had fear of. It was everything around him.
When he was with Celice… those were times he smiled and felt a happiness he couldn’t feel all those long years. It was what the world did to the two of them that he was so cautious about. Two people who had a dangerous fate being so close would of course cause so much pain… but that was neither of their faults. Sticking together had brought them better memories and feelings. It was better that way; than being alone and going through the pain that way. At least if they stayed close, there would be better times during all this chaos. They were simply unfortunate people… but it wasn’t because they spent all this time together. There would be pain either way. It was because they were together at all that Leaf had forced himself to hold on.
He promised himself a long time ago that he would make Celice happy in return for everything he’d done for him. Celice… must have known that. Something was causing him to doubt as well. Was he also doubting Leaf’s feeling of security near him? “I’ve never been afraid of you. You’re gentle and generous with me. You know similar worries that I’ve always had. If… that other you is partly some of your own emotions, you think a lot more like me than I used to think you did. I know he’s worse about everything, but it just means the core of those emotions still exist somewhere within you too, right? That means… I have to protect you from that… When I think about what you’re like when you’re laughing… there’s no way it could ever be possible for me to be afraid of you.”
Celice offered a small nod of understanding before wrapping an arm around Leaf and moving to gently stroke his hair. So that was why... but at least it allowed the army leader to breathe a sigh of relief that his own face and voice wasn’t causing any sort of trauma or discomfort for Leaf. With a firm press he kept Leaf close, hopefully helping him feel more secure now.
“I don’t doubt you, Leaf. I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t causing you pain indirectly.” Just as Leaf wished to protect him, Celice wished to protect him in kind. He wouldn’t accept it if part of him was possible of hurting the person he held so precious, especially when it was a part of him he could no longer control the actions of.
“Rest assured, you won’t have to hurt him.” He lowered his hand, fingers trailing through Leaf’s hair, before coming to rest on his cheek. Even in this dim light he was certain Leaf could see the determination in his eyes. “If it comes down to it, I’ll take care of it myself. I know you could never hurt me and I couldn’t ever ask you to. I feel the same about you, you know.”
Even in times like this they could carry on and every memory they forged together made this uncertain fear that came and went worthwhile. As long as they were like this there really was nothing to fear except for losing the other, an unacceptable fate that Celice would never allow to happen as long as he still gave breath.
Softly he pressed his lips to Leaf’s, ever so briefly before pulling back slowly. “I promise it will be alright, Leaf. Even if it’s a dream just call for me and I’ll come to your side. I won’t let you face any of that alone, real or not.” Leaf worked so hard to protect him almost to the point of putting Celice’s well being before his own. Celice couldn’t help but notice and perhaps these nightmares were also a product of overworking himself. If Leaf could find a way to relax even further, that would be great.
For now though he’d simply hold him close and be the one doing the protecting for now. He simply couldn’t let Leaf do all the work, not when Celice knew that his own support was just as needed by the brunet. “Now let’s try to rest more, okay? I won’t let go of you if you think it will help you sleep better.”
For a brief moment, Leaf was taken aback by the reaction. All this time, the new resident had been quiet and timid, not able to speak too well. Here he was, laughing, and over Leaf asking him to smile. Was it really so odd? He’d seemed to lonely, and Leaf wanted the assurance that he didn’t feel that way now. He seemed to be okay though, and he couldn’t help the relief he felt at seeing the other finally starting to open up.
More than relief, even. Something about that laugh had started tugging at his heart, and he realized all too quickly that he wanted to hear it again. There was an oddly serene feeling that surrounded that laugh, and it was right then that Leaf knew there was no way he would succumb to an average angel’s actions. He couldn’t possibly. Not while he was like this. His request wouldn’t be difficult at all, and Leaf could go through a few movies that were new to see which one interested Celice most.
“There are lots of new things that have come out. Here, I’ll bring them up for you so you can pick one while I grab the popcorn.” Bringing up the list of new movies on the isolated screen, Leaf turned the floating screen to Celice before getting back up. “You can pick which one you want, then turn the TV on. The settings to my TV are already registered on my computer, so once you pick one and start playing it, it will play right on my TV.”
It was when he left to get the next batch of food that he realized exactly how lonely his life had been here. There hadn’t been anyone to communicate with in person like this for so long, and it was completely refreshing now. How bad, then, had it been for someone who been turned into an angel? At least maybe now, they could both relax a bit… Of course things wouldn’t totally settle down right now, and there was a lot that had to be done, but in their own time, at least, Leaf felt there was comfort in his future, aside from all the horrible things he had no choice but to put up with from everything else that came along with being immortal.
Bringing the popcorn back as it been requested to be made, Leaf set it on another law, but small and round, table. Going through a nearby closet, he pulled out a pair of beanbag seats and dropped the blue one down for Celice’s use beside his own brown one. “These might be more fun for you to use, so let’s use them instead of the sofa! I hardly get to use them anyway, so they’re not worn out at all, and still relatively new. I only really use them for visitors which I hardly have anyway.”
His eyes were… a bit different. Yes, there was something completely different about him than the Celice he knew. Something told him this person was someone else, and the energy he could feel off of him told him the same. This probably was a bad idea, but he knew trying to run was the most likely initiator of an attack. Even if he had the power to fend off angels, and had done so countless times by now, it hadn’t been easy. Someone even tougher than them was bound to be misery if he tried to fight him head on. Moving a bit more out of place, near the wall still but entirely in view, he accepted answering.
“You’re… different from them. From the other angels. Most angels wouldn’t even have asked anything. You seem stronger, too… but you look exactly like someone else. Besides, if I ran off, you would have sensed me getting farther away. Once an immortal is in the presence of an angel, the only thing we can do is deal with it as it happens, no?”
Still, the closer he got, the weaker Reef got. It was good that he wasn’t as speedy about an attack as other angels, but perhaps his slowness was also a strength, whether the blue-haired angel was aware of that fact or not. The longer he took and the closer he got, the weaker his enemy’s resistance would become. It wasn’t a guess; it was entirely factual to Reef based on strained his own breathing was getting. If the other male took his wings out, he resistance would have collapsed in on itself instantly, even if he was able to keep up mentally giving in to him. Even if he could feel his face getting warm, warmer possibly by the second, he wouldn’t give in as pathetically as many immortals did.
This angel… was definitely beyond the league of the average angels Reef had been fending off all this time. “I don’t think I could fight you anyway… but that’s exactly why. At the very least, if I’m screwed anyway, I’d rather be taken down by someone strong who has their sense left.” After all, just by being an immortal, his life was at risk every day. No day went by that he expected to get out of it alive.
“If you’re the one that devours me, you’d better make me damn worth it than what a weaker angel would. But you’re right. You are going to devour me, because I really don’t think I have a chance fighting you. Just… I have other things I wish to do before then, so can you hold it off? That’s probably stupid to ask, but I can tell you have a brain left unlike most of those beasts. I’ll compensate you for asking this… There’s also something about you, though… You’re not Celice, are you…?”
By the time Leaf had returned Celice had not quite finished picking out a movie. He took one of the beanbag chairs and flopped onto it on his stomach before returning his attention to the display before him, flicking through the screens as he tried to figure out something to watch before settling on one of the titles and peering at the reviews. It looked like a nice, lighthearted show and that’s what he wanted most, with no tragic twist at the end.
“This one.” He tapped the selection and slid it forward to trigger the playback, then stared up at the TV in awe as it indeed started playing straight from the digital screen. That was incredible, definitely a bit more than he was used to as a child.
“It’s come a long way.”
Celice reached forward to get a handful of popcorn from the bowl as the opening credits started. Some comedy flick about a child and his dog, but it had mentioned in the reviews that the dog didn’t die so he figured it was a safe pick -- tragedy didn’t seem to strike him as something he wanted in his life at the moment, and Leaf had smiled earlier too. If he’d picked something sad and made Leaf cry after how kind and gentle he’d been, Celice might not be able to forgive himself.
Still, the movement on the screen seemed to stir something in him. There were more wants and dreams in his life that he’d entirely forgotten about, weren’t there? He hadn’t even held onto hope lately, so such an idealistic setting was beyond him. Celice couldn’t keep the stupid smile off his face while watching and stuffing popcorn into his mouth.
“I remember... as I child, I wanted a dog. I don’t know if I ever got one, but... maybe I did? It seems nice.”
This was amusing.
The brunet standing before him wasn’t a fool, in fact he seemed to understand entirely what his situation was. It was that fear and acceptance of his inferiority that made Ciel hold back on his attack and draw this meeting out. Already his prey was weakening and yet it still had the tenacity to match his gaze and to even try to bargain with him.
To hold off... what made him think Ciel would do such a thing? Although he seemed to understand that the angel before him was of a different class he still felt it acceptable to attempt reasoning. Either a fool or desperate, he mused as he began to laugh.
Ciel’s cold and predatory laugh hung in the air for moments before the shredding of fabric was heard and crimson wings unfurled from his back as he drew himself closer. He so desired to see how the immortal would fall apart witnessing him in his full glory, so wanted to gaze upon that primal fear and lust that consumed his prey each time he descended upon them.
He calmly reached forward and gripped hold of Reef’s chin, still chuckling lightly to himself.
“Celice... so you know the name of that failure, do you? I should hope I am not that sorry existence. Ah, but you’re sweet and flattering.” Very sweet, and it appeared he might have some ties to the people Ciel was looking for. Devouring him right away might actually be a waste, then, especially if this one was obedient as he looked.
“Why not convince me then of why I should keep you~. I may be willing to extend your life if you agree to a thing or two. I wouldn’t mind someone to worship me, after all.” And to get him closer to devouring his other half to obtain true power. This male knew of the other’s existence and perhaps,he could lead him to Celice.
“If it is so important that you will beg me to spare you, even like this, then perhaps I will humor you.”
Leaf knew he couldn’t understand what it meant to be an angel, or the kind of torment Celice had been through, but he could see all too clearly how hurt he was. But then… that was part of what proved his humanity, right? Leaf had always found angels terrifying… but he was not terrified of Celice. That said a lot; especially with how brutal some of his murders had been when faced with angels. There had been no other choice during those times, and there was no way Leaf would let things get that bad for Celice.
Staying quiet for a while, he allowed the other to finish the food in silence. He didn’t want to push anything, and it was better that Celice went at his own pace. Worrying about the people who did this to him had to wait, and it was definitely a subject Leaf would touch on later. Even if he couldn’t get the information out of Celice, in the event he was too afraid to speak about it, something told Leaf he would find out sooner or later anyway. Too many things seemed to start adding up after that raid…
“You don’t have to go hungry or wear the same clothes anymore. I want you to stay here, okay? You’ve done just fine holding yourself back, and if you’ve done this well up until now, it can only improve from here. I don’t think it will be perfect so soon, but I’ve heard of immortal angels who had complete control over themselves. Even back when you first found me, you had the chance to kill me right then. You didn’t… and you only saved me at that time. You must have suspected you knew who I was… That tells me you’re perfectly capable of retaining your senses, so… please don’t be scared.”
Regardless of what had happened days ago, he somehow felt more relaxed now. For a while, he avoided going outside and didn’t want to deal with any off chances happening, especially in the events there were still angels prowling around. Though he was in a room with one of them right now, it wasn’t the same… and he felt relatively comfortable like this. If Celice was a serious threat, wouldn’t he have shown it by now? His mental state was less of a threat than his physical power from what Leaf could tell, which meant if he could hold himself back, it would be rare he would have to deal with that power.
Since they had the rest of the day to themselves, perhaps Leaf could also help him learn to speak better again. There were plenty of things they could do together, and if Celice got these horrible things off his mind, surely he would seem more like himself. “Well, we still have the rest of the day, and that’s quite a while… so we can find a few games for you to occupy yourself with. If you’re going to settle in here, you should try things out and see what interests you most. But first… can you… smile like you used to for me?”
Was there an angel in human form around here? The sensation was present, but not very strongly. They must not have had their wings out right now… Was running away really a good idea? An angel could tell when an immortal was nearby just as well, and if the scent suddenly got farther away, he would likely be chased. His best bet was to do what he usually did then; lure it in and kill it.
Well, that had been his intention… but when Reef tried to see exactly where the angel was by peering around the corner, he stopped his actions briefly and hid himself again. That person… Was that Celice? The one who had gone missing? Thinking back on the last time he saw Celice, there was no way that couldn’t be him. If he was an angel now, that would explain why he disappeared… Still, something felt about it, and the vibe he was feeling certainly didn’t get him the image of Celice.
If this was him though, he needed to check on that. It felt off, and he was positive there had to be something else going on… but he wasn’t even sure he could ask. Angels rarely had the ability to converse, and there was nothing he could do if this person had lost his sense. Yet… he didn’t seem to have. The usual grunting and growling sounds angels made were not coming from him.
Peeking around the corner again, he made the action much less subtle this time. He wanted to be noticed, and he would figure out what was going on. If it turned out he needed to kill him, he could worry about that when it happened. In the event he died, well… it wasn’t like anyone was expecting him home by this point in the first place. Ah, but… that angel… was rather beautiful, all things considered. It didn’t help at all, but he knew he had to least keep in mind that there was something he was trying to figure out here. If he could converse with him, all the better… even if he didn’t know anything of the angel’s strength yet.
“A smile...?”
Something so simple that the absurdity of its simplicity made Celice pause for a brief moment in shock before finally something cracked and the angel let out a small chuckle before breaking into a fit of giggles. That he would show up and cause so much trouble only to be asked to smile, that all Leaf seemed to want was simple companionship, to not be alone... what was it about this he found so absurd?
“Ahaha...!” He lifted a sleeve to wipe tears from his eyes again before raising his head to look at Leaf again. It was strange, so incredibly strange to feel something so positive for once. It was a near intoxicating sensation and Leaf gave off the impression of someone so competent and trustworthy that Celice felt at ease.
Still... a whole afternoon left to do things? Well, it couldn’t hurt. There was a lot Celice had fallen behind on and he glanced around the room before his eyes fell upon one of the screens mounted on the wall. It would be nice to do something normal for once, wouldn’t it? He’d spent so much time struggling and worrying that he truly just desired some sense of normalcy in his life.
“Well... you have movies, right? It’s been a long time.. has anything good come out recently?” Another pause. The soup had been filling but if he could be the least bit greedy of Leaf’s kindness then right now, he would. “A-and... well... popcorn? With salt and butter... that’s warm.” As long as Leaf would have confidence in him then it wouldn’t hurt to try and have some confidence in himself. He’d done well this far, that was true. He’d just have to keep it up.
Someone was there, and from the feel of things it didn’t seem like they were particularly trying to stay hidden. No, someone like this would normally run away once they realized just what they were in the presence of yet they remained nearby.
The male swung his feet idly from the railing he sat on, finally pausing long enough to remove the strawberry lollipop from his mouth and inhale deeply. The candy had the sad effect of occupying his senses but he was not one to deny himself such things either - the flavour was masking a particularly awful tasting meal he’d had earlier in the day, there was an awful taste to immortals who insisted on tobacco use. Foul, wretched stuff he would have to eliminate.
A sweet and familiar scent.
... familiar?
Legs slowly came to a stop to rest on the bar beneath him and he turned in the direction of the prey’s scent. Although he held no memories of his source’s lifetime it would appear some things were ingrained in his body’s instinct and if he remembered right weren’t there people with this description in the ‘family’ he had heard of? It wasn’t difficult to find information on people with that amount of wealth, especially when he had all the right dna and identifiers to pass the various security checks that allowed him to assume Celice’s identity when desired.
Ice blue eyes now focused intently in the brunet’s direction he slipped down from his perch and landed gracefully, a faint smirk on his lips to accompany his predatory gaze as he started his approach toward the male. Such a fool he was to not run away. He had piqued Ciel’s curiousity and now that he held the angel’s attention he would get an answer -- was this person interesting, or something to simply throw away?
“Ah, ah~. Are you trying to be sneaky or.. no, you want me to see you, right~? What reason do you have to be so bold, immortal? Care to explain your odd actions before i devour you?”
What mattered most right now was getting Celice out of this shell, as far as Leaf was concerned. It wasn’t that he didn’t understand why he was like this now, but most often, angels lost their sense completely. There was no saving someone like that, but for Celice… there was still a chance. It looked like Celice was giving up on that chance, expecting to someday lose control of himself, but if he was around things that were human, wouldn’t it at least stabilize him?
“That’s fine. I’ll make you a vegetable soup. And… it’s not trouble. It would be trouble if I hadn’t found you at all, so… don’t worry about me.” He offered a light smile before turning and heading to the kitchen, but the fact was, he was worried. Not about himself, and not about Celice specifically, because given time, he was sure Celice would be okay again… but it was Celice’s doubt of his own control that concerned the brunet. Up until now, he hadn’t done anything to harm Leaf, but if he kept doubting like that… would they really be safe? Would he be able to hold himself back if he doubted like this?
Despite the thoughts that kept nagging him, he made sure to keep his focus on the soup as well. It was best it tasted good, and bets that it would make Celice want to eat again normally. His fear of eating… It wasn’t that Leaf didn’t understand, but this was entirely different kind of eating. People wouldn’t be dying from this, and it definitely wouldn’t mess with instincts. If he had done this well holding back beside at an immortal’s side, perhaps if he just lasted a little while longer doing this, he would be in full control.
It was possible, right? Leaf knew of the stories of immortal angels, and if Celice was truly one, those people had controlled themselves fine in the end. Apparently their control would start off shaky, but they would be able to contain themselves. If that was the case, Leaf just needed to be patient with him, and he had already tried doing just that. All he could really ask at this point was that Celice trusted him a little more.
Returning to him, Leaf placed the soup on the floor level table, moving to the other side to keep his distance. That seemed to be a primary cause of concern for Celice rather than himself, but if it made both of them more comfortable, it was better that way. Leaf looked away though as he spoke again, feeling slightly bad for some of this.
“Celice, I’m… really sorry… I keep pushing you to do things when you’re scared… I’ve been doing all this so you could recover your humanity and all, but… it was also because I didn’t want to be alone. I found you, and.. you understood my situation. You’re like me, even if we’re not exactly the same. I just wanted you to stay here… but I keep pushing for things when you’re not comfortable yet. I don’t even normally do that, but… I was scared you would leave again. I’m… really, really sorry…”
Celice stared silently at the bowl placed before him, focus entirely on the floating bits of vegetable and rice as Leaf spoke. He didn’t quite understand the need to apologize -- Leaf was only doing what he felt would help, right? Of course it was terrifying for the angel, they’d only been together a day now, but he would adjust. He was sure of it. Determined to.
“It’s... It’s okay.”
He managed a soft smile once again to show he was alright, trying to reassure Leaf with that small gesture. “I won’t leave... I ... I know I’m timid but really, I’m fine. You’re trying to help and I appreciate it.”
Leaf looked hurt that he’d been pressing so hard so quickly and possibly upsetting Celice in the process. It was sad, but at least the soup he had made smelled appetizing, enough that Celice felt it’d be a waste if he didn’t at least try. His stomach growled at the scent and he tentatively took the spoon in his hand, pausing for a moment before finally lifting a mouthful of soup to his mouth.
The texture was fine and the taste was unlike anything he’d ate in years... it was flavourful and hearty. A couple moments later and he realized the warmth in his eyes was the start of tears. When had he last eaten something, let along something warm and not... not vile and disgusting? He hated that Leaf might think his cooking was so terrible, so he continued with a few more mouthfuls as he choked back tears, before finally setting down the spoon.
“Sorry... s-sorry.” A sniff as he wiped his tears on one sleeve. “It’s good. It’s... it’s very, very good...” And that was the problem. Leaf had been so kind. Had provided him with shelter, clothing and now food despite the very real threat Celice’s existence posed. Celice, who he knew had devoured other immortals alive, who had committed depraved acts out of nothing more than instinct... and yet he treated him like a person. Insisted he was a person. It was almost too much, but after a moment to catch his breath he quickly picked up the spoon once more to finish off the soup. He couldn’t let any of it go to waste now.
“Of course it’s fine… I can tell you need help, and I can’t just leave you like this. I also… want to get to know you. You say I don’t know you anymore, so teach me about you.” It was strange to think they had ever met before with how different the present was from all the things in his memory. Even just standing here now like this, even if no words were spoken, just looking at Celice now felt so different. It wasn’t bad, just… different.
Even if Celice hadn’t been able to take care of himself normally, keeping himself hidden, he still at least had humanity. No matter what he denied, it was doubtless that he had clung to his humanity ever since becoming an angel, and when thought about it… angels were supposed to be beautiful and majestic, weren’t that? Not the kind in this world, but the kind in stories. If that was the case, Celice did fit the description well… and Leaf wasn’t sure if there was color on his face as he realized exactly what that thought entailed.
“So… let’s get you something to wear that’s clean and I’ll throw your clothes in the wash when you’re changed, okay? Then I’ll bring you shopping and I’ll get whatever you need.” He turned away briefly, but he turned back only seconds later to speak again, only sincerity in his voice. “I know you’re concerned that I’m letting you stay… I can see it just by looking at you. But… I wouldn’t do this for just anyone.” But that was enough for the point he needed to get across, and he proceeded to find clothing that would fit the other nicely for their trip out.
Said trip was far from bad though, and Leaf pulled him along to various stores that were nearby. Not only did Celice end up with new clothes, but he now had a new wardrobe, wallet, shoes, clothing accessories, a few novel books that he had shown a fair amount of interest in while waiting for Leaf to gather him things in one of the stores, and various restroom accessories including a variety of scented perfumes to help the instincts based off scent.
Leaf knew Celice would protest about him buying this much, but if he planned to have another resident in his house, they needed to be properly taken care of. Despite the odds they were against and the risks they were taking by being out like this, Leaf still had plenty of fun gathering him outfits and seeing what fit, also being able to see how everything looked on him. It had been a while since he was out with someone like this, and it honestly made him happy.
Paying for what he purchased, he brought up a screen to input his information and send the items straight to his house, walking the way back with Celice. It was better walking for now to him, and he preferred to spend the time this way with Celice rather than in a car. Once home, Leaf brought him to his new set of clothes and washroom care, folding the clothes up a bit more tidily and putting them in the newly purchased medium sized wardrobe, then placing all the washroom care items into the washroom closet.
Returning and finally sitting back on his bed, he wondered if he could really convince Celice to eat something. After all, didn’t immortals and immortal angels still die if they didn’t consume food? Leaf had never tried, and the idea of hunger pains didn’t seem very fascinating. “Hey… You… don’t eat, right? I mean, at all? That must be painful… Even if you can just come back to life and can’t stay dead, doesn’t it hurt dealing with those hunger pains? It’s not fun at all. Do you… remember what you liked for food before? I want to make you something you really liked, and then you can tell me if you don’t mind going on without eating. I’ll make it special, too! So… can I maybe get you to try something?”
Celice had paused with some hesitation when presented with the clothes to change into, but the reality of the situation was better than he’d originally expected. Even with the clothes momentarily pressed against his face (and wondering how depraved he must look inhaling their scent), the feared instincts stayed mostly quelled for the time being. He wondered, briefly, if it had anything to do with being well-rested for once.
And so he tagged along in near absolute silence with Leaf, nodding and giving simple feedback as he was led along through various stores and tried on various outfits. He couldn’t deny that it was fun though and the soft, hesitant smiles that accompanied many of his actions seemed to speak for what he wasn’t vocalizing at the moment. Even though he wanted to protest at Leaf purchasing the books and so many excessive (in his mind) items for him he didn’t. It was rude to decline a host’s invitation like this and Celice did remember much of the manners instilled in him growing up.
In the meantime he kept one of the small bottles of perfume on hand, deciding to spray it lightly onto the inside of his scarf that he insisted on not washing yet, not until he had more. Covering his face felt safer and while he didn’t want to hide his expression from Leaf it gave him that much security. Mouth covered; less temptation to bite. No bites meant no spiraling out of control.
The walk back home was relaxing and Celice had come to be rather at ease despite his earlier reservations, at least until Leaf started talking about eating again. He flinched as he always did when uncomfortable. The thought of having anything in his mouth.. it worried him. Just the act of chewing felt sickening sometimes, but then again it had also been an act of desperation in eating something the first time he felt true hunger outside of the lab. At that point though he’d already gotten good at starving, unwilling to devour the ‘food’ he was presented with.
Unfortunately, it seemed Leaf would worry if he didn’t eat something. Well, there were many things Celice remembered that he had liked but couldn’t currently stomach the thought of eating anymore, and things he’d considered but had no means of obtaining without resorting to theft. Leaf’s expression seemed to carry concern at the prolonged period of silence following his question and so he figured he should answer somehow, even if giving the details was something he didn’t want to subject Leaf to at this time.
“Ah... I-I will try something. I don’t think I’d like what I used to, I...” He felt a bit trapped having to admit it, knowing Leaf would understand the reasoning rather quickly once he did. Just another reminder that the Celice here wasn’t a human, but a cannibalistic monster. “Not comfortable with meat. So... maybe something else? If that’s not any trouble, I will try. You went to all this trouble already, I don’t want to worry you.”
Chikyuu no Owari wa Koi no Hajimari
How hard… had things been for him, exactly? Even if he wrote it off like this, Leaf knew there was more to it than that. If Celice couldn’t even look at him and honestly say these things, Leaf wouldn’t believe it. Even if he didn’t hate it, there were better options. Though when he’d taken Celice in, Leaf hadn’t planned a set time to keep him there, he was almost about to say Celice would have to move in. For a moment, the brunet had completely forgotten how dangerous it could be to have an angel so close to him all the time.
Before he got his answer out, he was able to remind himself it would be a bit much to get worked up over it. There was no use in scaring him, and it wouldn’t sound right to the other’s ears if Leaf understood his shyness correctly. Was Celice fearful, though? Honestly fearful that he would come to harm Leaf someday? Thankfully, he seemed much better now than last night, and that at least calmed Leaf.
“Celice, I… know you’re an angel and all, but… I want you to stay here. Hearing those words, I’m… afraid of letting you get too far from me now. We’ve already lost you once, and this is your chance to stay somewhere safe.” If he kept at fighting his instincts, he could only get better. If he was this stable already, he was more than capable. Maybe he was just lacking confidence and doubted himself… Clearly, he was no ordinary angel. Somehow, Leaf was glad to know that. It meant, unlike the others, he had a chance to continue as a person.
A light touch from Leaf’s hand onto Celice’s shoulder and he spoke again. “I know this is weird and sudden, but when I see you so quiet, looking like you’ve been through such a hard time, I… kind of feel like I’m aching. I’ve been alone for a while myself, and I know it’s not fun. I know it gets lonely. I’ll help you remember what you used to be like, and I’ll help you remember what it’s like to be a human. We can play games and go out for walks at night, talk to people I know…”
Was it even weird? It wasn’t like they were total strangers. Even if they were, it wouldn’t be odd for them to stay close, would it? Their fathers were even best friends who had sworn to help each other in the other’s time of need. Why couldn’t that apply here just because of an annoying tree decided to change Leaf’s life from the norm? Leaf couldn’t just accept that. He wouldn’t just accept that. As long as Celice stayed under control, Leaf still had quite literally all the time in the world to help him and do other things with himself. He could spend as long as needed to help this person.
“But, in any case… you wore those clothes earlier, right? If you want, you can borrow something of mine. I’m sure I have clothes that are a bit big on me. You can wear them while we’re out if you want to wear something different, then change into your new clothes when we get back. I know there’s a lot going on right now regarding the immortals and angels, and I know someone’s interfering in our lives, but for now… I think we have time to set that aside. Just long enough to get you settled in here. I’m sorry… Please understand my reasoning…”
Celice flinched back slightly at Leaf’s suggestion that he stay at his place indefinitely. The idea filled him with fear, fear that he’d wind up eventually losing control and attacking his cousin. Even if he’d subconsciously crawled into Leaf’s bed last night without causing harm the temptation would probably always be there and he wasn’t certain how long he would be able to fight it.
He nodded slightly at the suggestion about his clothes. “I’ve been taking care of this outfit, but this is it.” Leaf’s clothes... he couldn’t help but blush a bit at the thought, hiding his face half behind his scarf as he felt his cheeks grow warm. “If you have something I’d fit, then I wouldn’t mind.”
“Is it really.... alright for you to spend money on me?” Not to mention going shopping in the middle of the day, with everything that could go wrong. Ah, Leaf really did seem too trusting of him right now. They’d only just met again and he was already offering all of this help, but it all sounded so tempting. A warm place, someone to spend time with who understood what this life was like.
“I mean, I ... well, I’m not going to tell you not to. I’d still like a new outfit. My cards... I tried using them once but... well, I threw them out when I realized they didn’t work anymore.” He hadn’t had the courage to go in to a bank full of people to get his information sorted out, especially not when it would lead his family to him faster than he could run away. It was probably a security measure on their end anyways, so that they could find him easier if he reactivated them. With the levels of security to get a new payment chip activated - well, it was just too dangerous.
He gave a soft shrug and glanced around the room they were in again before finally settling his gaze back on Leaf. “Whatever you have spare... it will be okay.”
{ Fluff Drabble: Celeaf ♥ }
Ah, he should have known. As soon as Leaf heard hurried movement outside, he knew Celice had heard about him collapsing. That time… they had learned the Leaf in the future had fallen ill and died from that, and Celice had been paranoid ever since. It was understandable though, when he knew better than anyone how overworking Leaf could be. That was why Leaf wasn’t at all surprised to see him shoving the door to their room open, quickly closing it behind him as he hurried in and rushed to the side of the bed.
Before Celice could speak, Leaf quickly offered him a small smile. “You didn’t wait for them to tell you what happened, right?” A light blush colored the other’s face as the answer was yes, and he nodded slowly. “I’m just exhausted, not sick. I worked too hard the past few days trying to make things easier for you. I knew you were tired and you looked ready to pass out all day yesterday. I worked too hard myself though, and when you were away in a meeting for a political concern, this happened.”
Celice nodded again, gently sitting on the side of the bed and watching Leaf quietly. It was common for him to exhaust himself, and he had done that during the war, as well. Those times Celice or Fin would walk in to see him asleep with weapons all over the place… He always took things so far… Hands brushing hair softly out of Leaf’s face, Celice continued for him. “But you won’t be doing that anymore, right?”
A small laugh was the start of the reply. “Yeah… I don’t usually realize how bad I get until it catches up to me. All this time I thought I was helping you, but I realized when it happened this time that it’s only making you worry. It’s not safe for my body either, and before I know it you’ll have people checking on every twenty minutes.”
The look on Celice’s face now told Leaf he wasn’t angry, the concern still present but the fear faded. He, too, allowed himself a small smile, pulling his hand away to rest again at his side. “I will if you don’t take care of yourself. I’m thankful you watch out for me, but it’s no good if you get hurt trying. If you’re too exhausted, we can’t have fun or have time to relax together. Just do things at your normal pace, like you always did. I like it most when you’re smiling and laughing… and that’s much harder to do when you’re too exhausted.”
It was true, and Leaf knew it was. For a while, he had always insisted he had to help more than he was capable of helping. He needed to seem useful to Celice, and to everyone else. After all, if he wasn’t useful, wasn’t he just in the way? Not that he was useless, but it had always felt better to be someone others could rely on. Someone who didn’t look weak and could assist the person he was always beside. This wasn’t the first time he’d taken it too far, but he did wish for it to be the last.
Finally, Celice moved himself fully onto the bed, sliding under the blankets and scooting over beside Leaf as close as he could. They enjoyed being like this regardless of whether one of them was tired; laying in such a comfortable spot where they could just hold each other and ignore whatever was going on in the world at that time. Leaf found himself staring at Celice’s eyes once they were back on him, grateful again that it was him those eyes looked at so fondly.
“In a way, it was also so you would be proud of me. Nothing made me happier than to hear the most important person in the army, and the person I adored, praise me. I got used to working hard so things would be easier for you, since I knew the kind of toll the war was taking on you. I thought that because I’d been through a war already, I would be more used to it and not as badly affected… and that might have been the case, but I guess I went about it by pushing myself too much physically instead of simply sharing information.”
“I’ve always appreciated the work you’ve done for me, and the work you continue to do for me. But that’s not all I care about, you know? I was happy that when you looked at me, you saw ‘Celice’. You didn’t see the son of Sigurd and Empress Diadora. You didn’t see the future Emperor of Grandbell. You didn’t see the person who was born to take on the role that was decided for him. I never minded being that person, but I can’t say I entirely enjoyed how… forced it felt. I felt natural talking to you, because you see me as someone you enjoyed the company of. Not… wanting my company to talk to someone ‘famous’. You don’t have to work harder than normal to get my attention. All that time, it was ‘Celice’ you wanted to talk to, and that always made me happy.”
There were things Leaf wanted to say, but Celice cut him off briefly to lean closer, just enough to let Leaf know his intentions before he left a barely prolonged kiss on the other’s lips. They were laying here, married now, but it was still never strange to bring up how they ended up this way. No… They loved hearing each other’s stories about why they came to so deeply cherish their partner. When Celice pulled away, Leaf quickly went back for another kiss, although a quick peck in comparison, but his arms wrapped around his lover’s waist affectionately.
“When you say that… I realize exactly why I always work so hard. It’s because I realize how short life really is, and I want to do my best for you while I’m here. Life can be sad… and I can’t say mine had been much of anything else before I met you. Living like that was hard, and I only really had a few years to feel somewhat calm in Fiana… The rest from there was all fighting and army stuff up until very recently. That’s why I want to work hard, so I can see you smile and feel relaxed.”
It was the tiniest bit odd to him, how much his heart would ring in his own ears when they were this close. He should have been used to this by now, should have found it totally normal. There were times that did happen, but often, especially with conversations like this and the two of them so close, he could honestly call himself happy with the feelings to remind himself those were true words.
“That’s why I decided… as long as this heart is beating, and always beating faster when I’m alone with you… that it will beat for you. My life isn’t sad anymore, and knowing I get to see you every day… you know… if we could live eternally, I don’t think I’d ever get bored of existing as long as I had you. I want to say ‘I love you’, because I can never tell you enough… but it feels like I’ve said it so much, there must be something else that’s stronger. It’s not enough. There are just no words to really tell you how I feel when I get these heartbeats and silly feelings… It feels so weird… but it always reminds me that you’re right here…”
Celice replied first with a light laugh, his own arms reaching around Leaf and securing the brunet in his hold. “It’s okay… You’re not the only one. I’m grateful for everything you’ve done for me and how much joy you brought me even during our hardest days. Besides… I’m sure a lot of people would only want to be with me because of the social class. Because I’m the most important person in Grandbell. But, well, to me… you’re the most important person in Grandbell. Thank you… for loving Celice, and not the ‘Emperor’.”
All Leaf could give at that moment was a content “Mm…” as he leaned closer to Celice, using the moment to stay close and feel his warmth. He knew it wasn’t time to sleep yet, and they would have to get up for dinner, but for the time being, both of them were most content like this. After a short while, Leaf moved to lower his head against Celice’s neck, muttering a soft, “Love you…” before pulling back to his original cuddling position. He heard the words whispered back, smiling softly at them as they continued laying there. It took another good ten minutes before Leaf finally pulled back, a smile returning to his face as he spoke. “Let’s invite some of the others around here for cards tonight. We’re supposed to have a local meetup soon anyway with the other duchies!”
{Headcanon Meme: Leaf demands I ask for C, E, L, E, A, F. Experience for during the war and after the war. Sly tiny husband.}
C
Well we basically already answered this one, so...
E - Experience
During the war he really isn’t that experienced. Unlike some of the other members of the army though he has some level of familiarity with his body, and a good level of teenage hormones coupled with curiousity and later infatuation did lead to him having some experience with his own body. In terms of experience with a partner though he typically remains a virgin until he actually promises himself to someone in game verse. Even then, there’s not too much time to worry about intimacy -- some passionate and intimate nights with his lover scattered here or there are what he manages, haphazardly at best.
Post war by the time he’s settled down and married and the chaos of being crowned the new Emperor has calmed a bit he takes a bit more time to actually learn and understand his partner’s body as well as his own desires. He’s a bit of a romantic and enjoys making his partner happy and learning as many new things about them as possible.
L = Location (Favourite places to do the do)
Celice isn’t incredibly fussy, but all things considered he prefers someplace soft. A bed is preferred, but the floor will do in a pinch and he would love to try it in a hot spring some day (but don’t let him hear I said that).
A = Aftercare (What they’re like after sex)
Lazy. He’s happy enough to fetch a warm towel and help clean up, but if he had it his way he’d probably fall right asleep with some cuddling. As long as his partner doesn’t mind that he won’t be entirely lucid after sex, he’s content to listen to them as long as he can rest.
F = Favourite Position
We went over this in the last post, but those other positions were assuming he was mostly the dominant one. Some of the time he prefers to let his partner take charge, and in that case he’s a big fan of allowing them to ride cowgirl. He especially enjoys the view.
F, U, C, K. That just worked well on the letters I wanted to send.
Favourite Position
Celice highly prefers any position where he can actually see his partner, or at least so he can easier kiss them in the dark. Although he’s shy to admit it, he'd say is favorite is to have his partner in his lap, facing him.
Unfair (how much they like to tease)
Lots. Not to the point that it’s unbearable, but Celice is very playful with his lover and enjoys teasing them. He’s really a huge tease, even when he shouldn’t be.
C = Cum
He just wishes it wasn’t such a pain to clean up. Otherwise he doesn’t really mind how messy things can get, and even actually enjoys it. He’s really just gotten in the habit of keeping a towel nearby for quick temporary cleanups. (He also really enjoys seeing his partner as ‘his’, doesn’t matter if it’s just in his clothes or covered in his cum. ...and he’s going to kill me for letting that out of the bag.)
K = Kink (One or more of their kinks)
Celice is actually rather vanilla and doesn’t have much in the way of heavy kinks. Aside from the aforementioned enjoying seeing his partner in his own clothes he’s also particularly fond of thigh-high socks and garters.
Headcanon Game - A to Z (NSFW)
fairy-tail-babes:
Hey guys! I thought I’d so something fun this weekend, so I did my best to sexualize the alphabet and turn it into a headcanon game!
So here’s how it works. You send me a character (or a few), and the corresponding letters that you want me to answer for them!
A = Aftercare (What they’re like after sex) B = Body part (Their favourite body part of theirs and also their partner’s) C = Cum (Anything to do with cum basically… I’m a disgusting person) D = Dirty Secret (Pretty self explanatory, a dirty secret of theirs) E = Experience (How experienced are they? Do they know what they’re doing?) F = Favourite Position (This goes without saying. Will probably include a visual) G = Goofy (Are they more serious in the moment, or are they humorous, etc) H = Hair (How well groomed are they, does the carpet match the drapes, etc.) I = Intimacy (How are they during the moment, romantic aspect…) J = Jack Off (Masturbation headcanon) K = Kink (One or more of their kinks) L = Location (Favourite places to do the do) M = Motivation (What turns them on, gets them going) N = NO (Something they wouldn’t do, turn offs) O = Oral (Preference in giving or receiving, skill, etc) P = Pace (Are they fats and rough? Slow and sensual? etc.) Q = Quickie (Their opinions on quickies rather than proper sex, how often, etc.) R = Risk (Are they game to experiment, do they take risks, etc.) S = Stamina (How many rounds can they go for, how long do they last…) T = Toy (Do they own toys? Do they use them? On a partner or themselves?) U = Unfair (how much they like to tease) V = Volume (How loud they are, what sounds they make) W = Wild Card (Get a random headcanon for the character of your choice) X = X-Ray (Let’s see what’s going on in those pants, picture or words) Y = Yearning (How high is their sex drive?) Z = ZZZ (… how quickly they fall asleep afterwards)
I’ll have this running all weekend, so feel free to drop by!
That didn’t exactly answer anything he’d said, but it was fine. From the looks of things, Celice would take a little while before he got used to communication again. It was understandable though, and Leaf would be patient until he was ready. For now, he gave him a small smile and a nod. “Sure. You can use whatever you need to. I’ll bring you over there.”
Even as he brought Celice to the bathroom and let him know where things were and any other information he might have needed, Leaf couldn’t get it out of his mind that even as an angel, Celice shouldn’t have seemed so messed up. Other angels weren’t hesitant in this same manner, and it couldn’t have just all been based on his desire to not harm Leaf, could it? Celice had said he’d been made to do awful things, but were things also done to him that were so awful?
Once he was back in his room to tidy it up for the day, it made him wonder if any of his comrades had found anything else out while there. There hadn’t been much time for them all to converse on the topic, and perhaps now would be the best time. He couldn’t be certain, and nor could anyone else, when those missing would pop up. The likely people to know the most would be the last ones at that place, and again Leaf pulled up the screen and began attempting contact.
Finally able to get through to a few of them, they settled themselves into a group conversation, setting it up so that they could see their partners’ faces to hopefully make everything go more smoothly and with less confusion. If possible, they would have gathered, but after the last time they had and how things had turned out, it didn’t feel like a particularly good or safe idea. They would have to wait that out until they certain nobody in this area was a big danger to them.
Though uncertain when Celice would be out, as long as the immortals were not actually there in his house, the angel probably wouldn’t feel too apprehensive. It was a given that Leaf would speak to others like himself, and he had little doubt Celice was unaware of the fact that many of them were present in that building that day. As things were, Leaf also needed to check into what probably happened to Celice, and he needed to know for sure if that was related to the reason he’d shown up there at all.
Manfloy… He’d seen that name before. While there last to check on the others, it seemed Sety had found documents relating to who owned that building and who the main operators were. There were confusing documents scattered everywhere after the disaster that took place when the angels broke in, but he kept them to attempt to piece things together. Between himself and Ishtar, each of them had agreed to go over the papers and figure out exactly what experiments were involved there, and with Faval having been there recently, he had stumbled upon a room that seemed meant for testing DNA. Patty had been able to steal some of the things left behind there, too… hey could perhaps get somewhere with this…
Had he himself seen that Manfloy name in that place at all? Probably not if he couldn’t be sure, but the name was too familiar for him to not have known it. Even with that aside, Leaf knew there had been problems with DNA areas in the past, but the person who owned that supposedly science related building was dead now. Even then, that was far too many years ago… Did that mean Manfloy had taken in an interest in that woman’s work and chose to continue it?
After a conversation that felt all too lengthy, he finally rested his back against the side of his bed as they each went on about their business. It was unfortunate that despite being immortal completely against their will, they were all brought so deeply into things like this that they otherwise would never have taken any action to be involved in. Truthfully, Leaf hated it… and he also had no issue losing immortality. Rather, he wished it hadn’t happened in the first place. The issue did not lie with the fact that he couldn’t be killed, but that he altogether had lost the ability to die. He was stuck like this, even if it was a plus that he couldn’t be murdered by someone.
Moving through the house to deal with daily chores and have things set up for the day, he spotted Celice finally, and with a bit of relief. If there was one thing to be grateful for immortal for, it was that, as an angel, Celice had been naturally attracted to his presence. If that had brought them together like this, at the very least, one good thing had happened out of it.
“Oh, Celice… If you’re staying with me for now, you’re going to need your own clothes since mine are probably a bit small for you. I’ll take you out shopping today and we can get what you need. But… on that topic… where have you been staying? You don’t look like you’ve been in normal shelter. If you haven’t had a place to stay, I definitely have to keep you staying safe here.”
Tub now filled with water and clothes very carefully folded to the side, Celice allowed himself to slip into the bath and sink up to his chest in the water. He’d only managed warm baths in the past years by patronizing public bathhouses when they were almost empty, far too shy to allow others to see the large red scars on his back that marked where his wings were tucked away. It seemed rather unique to him, since most angels couldn’t hide their wings in the first place. Still, they were close enough to a tattoo, and those were typically barred from public bathing facilities.
He shrugged and dunked his head before working the shampoo into his hair. While he worked on that he carefully mouthed words to himself, hoping that a bit of practice now would help him be less awkward later. This morning had just been horrific in his eyes, he felt like a child having to break up his thoughts into so few words.
Well, he could work on it. If he could do that then it’d be easier to relate what had happened to him and the details of the research facility to Leaf, who most likely knew others who could put an end to these things. Celice held some reservations about meeting other Immortals but he refused to shy away like that any longer. He could’t just keep hiding like this.
Hair rinsed of shampoo and his body finally scrubbed clean he let the tub drain and stepped out to dry himself. It felt a bit shameful to put the somewhat dirty clothes back on now that he’d bathed properly, but he’d done his best to keep them from getting too bad, and had taken to trying to wash them at least once a week now. He toweled his hair dry as he could get it for the time being and then pulled it back in the ponytail he kept these days before heading out of the bathroom and back towards the living room.
Smile faded away for a moment when Leaf questioned him on his ‘home’ and Celice found himself averting his gaze again. If he told the truth then Leaf would feel bad, but lying to him would do no good if they wanted to build a relationship based on trust.
“Outside, mostly...” He shrugged lightly, attempting to play it off as if it weren’t really a problem to him. “Usually parks or bus shelters, but I’ve ... I’ve been okay.”
It was difficult to pretend it hadn’t been a hard life, but for all the days he’d spent missing his family and home it was still better than the years spent in that awful place. Sleeping outside was much preferred to that life and he’d rather spend his years running than suffering further.
“I don’t hate it...”
There was only silent staring as Leaf woke, eyes blinking softly as he waited for his mind to catch up with his surroundings. It didn’t take long for him to realize someone was beside him, and that that someone had previously been seen sleeping on the couch. Leaf had managed to sleep through the night, unexpected as it was with so much going on, and he had never noticed someone coming over and laying at his side.
A light coloring reached his cheeks, not taking much longer to fully realize Celice was cuddling up beside him. Unfortunately, he seemed content, and Leaf found it would be rude to wake him right now. Despite his claims the night before, he seemed all too peaceful and quiet. In the end, Celice really was Celice. The same person Leaf knew a long time ago. The same person he admired so much and had to follow everywhere on the days he was lucky enough to see him
That had only been a child’s admiration crush though, and yet… Leaf had been more relieved to see him than he was sure he would have anyone else. In a way, it was safe to say Leaf had basically never gotten the chance to grow up with Celice. They were separated far too young to be thought of as having grown up in each other’s presence. The last time they had been together, they had both been so small compared to now.
As if on instinct, Leaf’s hand reached to the hair that was close to him, running through it softly so as not to wake him. His hair… had been shorter than this way back then, hadn’t it? As strange as it was to wake up with someone beside him when he had not slept with someone beside him, some part of him didn’t mind at all. He felt safe, and that made things even more strange. There was no way an immortal was safe near an angel. Still, he… didn’t mind this scenario at all.
Thinking about them as children felt a bit chilling, all the same though. Exactly how much had Celice done since he was taken away? He knew better than to think the other male hadn’t killed people, perfectly innocent people even. Immortals had the worst of that, but surely, if people had made him do such terrible things as he had stated last night, there were probably others involved besides for immortals. There were plenty of gruesome things this peaceful face had been involved in without a doubt, but none of that was his fault.
Ironically, Leaf felt they were a bit lucky to end up like this, as awful as it was. If he were immortal and Celice remained perfectly normal, he would have been undoubtedly sad about it. That Celice was moving on with time and farther away from him, just like the rest of Leaf’s family. Unless Celice became immortal by chance, this was somehow the next best thing, as little sense as that seemed to make.
Quietly pulling the computer screen up in front of him, he sorted through a few pages before reaching his mail again, a wave of relief hitting him as he noticed a new message had come in from Faval. He was safe… Down from seven to six missing then. Though he spotted a reply from his parents, now probably wasn’t the time to answer their message. There would have to be details added, and it was going to have to be a time where he really sit down to worry about that. Feeling and hearing rustling beside him, he turned his head to the waking boy next to him before closing the screen, then returning his full attention to Celice.
“You’re awake… I can’t say I expected to find you in my bed when I woke up. Did something happen? Were you okay last night?” And why did this feel so comforting for himself? It wasn’t just that someone was here with him; it was that this particular person was here with him. Though he couldn’t give a reason for it, he felt as though Celice belonged here like this.
Should it have been worse than this? No, it probably should have… but Leaf had decided not to let it bother him that Celice became an angel. As things stood now, Leaf had killed plenty of angels, and many more times than that had immortals and innocents suffered gruesome and awful murders to those very same angels. He couldn’t picture Celice being that way at all… The corpses killed by angels were usually in quite awful condition, and unfortunately angels had more of an advantage against immortals than the other way around. Many more advantages. If Celice wanted to take his memories, he could have taken them last night without any effort at all, but he hadn’t. That was… enough reason to trust him, wasn’t it?
The faint glow of a screen was hardly enough to fully wake him, but still enough that he wound up stirring gently and letting out a tiny groan. There was movement beside him and the angel lifted his head groggily before wiping at his mouth with his sleeve. It was embarrassing to think he’d been drooling a bit like that but Leaf didn’t seem to mind any, or maybe he just hadn’t noticed yet. Or perhaps it wasn’t worth drawing attention to when Celice could have done something far worse.
Instead, he sat up slowly and listened to the brunet carefully. It was always difficult to find words right after waking up these days, rather his response was a faint huffing noise before he reached up to pull his hair out of his face. He had slept well, although that could simply be attributed to being inside rather than out.
“Ahhh...” How could he even respond to that sort of concern? It was so foreign that the angel simply shrugged and for a moment gave up on his words instead opting to look around the room he’d woken up in. So this was where Leaf lived.... it truly did look like a home, even if it was a home made up only for one person. It must have felt empty, but still comfortable.
“I ... good... mor...ning...” He felt a bit upset that he couldn’t articulate a proper greeting so early but he had a feeling he wouldn’t be blamed for that. Still, it was difficult to hide the frustration from his expression - now that he had someone to greet he had stayed apart from society for so long that it had grown difficult.
Giving up once more on trying to explain how he’d come to be in Leaf’s bed - he didn’t understand it fully himself, after all - Celice set his feet down on the floor and got up. It was warm and clean and... ah, he must have smelled a bit, right? Nose wrinkled and face turning slightly red from the embarrassment of this realization he turned back to face Leaf again, head lowered somewhat sheepishly. He didn’t want to be such a mess around Leaf if he could avoid it.
“Bath. May i...?”
Perhaps the lack of stress really had helped. It was much easier to communicate like this, and Leaf honestly did not want to have a terrible relationship with Celice simply because the two had been unlucky in life. The smile that formed on the angel’s face made Leaf feel much calmer, feeling that the tension was lessening. Before he’d realized it, he was positive he had just thought Celice even seemed cute when he smiled. He knew he used to be attached to him in the past, before they had been separated, but they weren’t quite the same anymore now. It was something different…
After quietly watching over him for another few passing minutes, wanting to be sure he would alright on his own, he finally decided it was time to leave the room and continue attempting contact with the people he entered that horrible building with. Because they’d gone there, he had been able to find Celice, so it hadn’t been all bad, but knowing the others were probably still attempting to stay in hiding for now worried him. Rather, it was the lack of communication the past few days that concerned him.
Getting to his own room, he seated himself on his bed, pulling up the screen that gave him the access necessary to decide whether he needed to go search for anyone or not. His only new e-mails were from contacts he’d already heard back from, and pulling up the roster of people who had participated in that attack, a barely audible sigh was let out as he checked it over to meet the same results as the past few days. Of twenty immortals who had been present then, including himself and between each other, only six of them were found.
The document was able to be updated by anyone in the listed group, and he could only frown as he checked the updates Sety had left the returning group since he’d last checked it yesterday. Seven dead… Seven still missing… Even now, Leaf wasn’t entirely sure how Sety always managed to figure out what happened to everyone or how he kept up on it so accurately, but he wouldn’t complain. The immortals needed someone like him just to feel safe. Maybe if trouble with Celice ever arose, Leaf could contact him for help. Even against angels, he was always their strongest…
Leaving a few more messages and then attempting to locate anyone possible for the next fifteen minutes, he finally decided to call it quits when he found himself with no leads. If seven were missing, that could very well mean they were captured. If he had to guess, Sety must have found out that the people who had died had their memories left behind for some reason. He knew the other male had gone back to that location to try to find out any details, or if anyone still resided there, but the fact that he’d found the memories of each person they’d lost at that place alone… Had someone stayed behind there intending to find and take them?
Switching to his family’s contact information, he left a quick message that he had found Celice and they didn’t need to worry, and that he was safe. Details could be left until later, and it was best he didn’t tell them right now so as not to start a panic. It was also late… and the last thing he wanted was for his family to stomp right over and try to understand what had happened. Celice was tired, and having family all over him in his present state would probably only scare him this soon.
Removing the screen, he flopped down onto the bed, only a blank stare remaining for at least a minute before he thought back on the past week. Planned raid… Raid… Met Celice there… and met him again… Missing immortals… It was possible if he knew more about Celice, the pieces would come together on their own. It seemed too unlikely that it was a mere coincidence he had met Celice when he had considering the other was an angel now.
For now, he too needed rest. Taking a moment to check on Celice again, he peeked around the corner to where the other rested, grateful that he looked comfortable and seemed much more peaceful than previously. Did he… even have a house he stayed in all this time? It was upsetting to think about, that it was possible Celice didn’t even have a home. If that was the case, there was no way Leaf would be letting him stay out there. Even if he had to go out, he at least needed to return here to sleep, and that was going to be that. With that decided, Leaf returned to his own room, flipping the light off and snuggled into his own blankets.
He had someone to protect now… and he couldn’t let him go.
It was well into the night when Celice woke up again, the fire no more than faintly glowing embers and the warm smell of smoke long gone. It had grown just slightly chilly in the room - perhaps the heat wasn’t set to come on in the middle of the night - and the angel found himself sitting upright before he understood why, or where he was.
A glance around and a moment’s thought reminded him of the days events, that he had met Leaf after so many years apart and even been welcomed into the immortal’s home. It would be easy, so easy, for Celice to give in to his instincts and prey upon the person that had shown him such kindness, but he shoved that brief temptation away. Blanket clutched to his chest he focused instead on the remnants of the evening’s fire and his word that he’d stay.
That was practically a promise, right? It meant he couldn’t run off now and he also understood that he shouldn’t. Doing that now would only hurt both of them and they wouldn’t find the answers they were looking for if parted.
“Ha...” A sigh left him as he let his bare feet drag across the soft throw rug. He must look like an awful mess to Leaf and yet not a moment’s attention had been brought to it, Leaf had been so excited to see him and to believe he was the same person. If Leaf could believe that then Celice could too, right?
Before he was fully aware of his movements the angel found himself standing silently before Leaf’s bed, his hand moving to lift the edge of the covers. If he could just warm up maybe he would sleep better, he’d never felt safe sleeping outside as he had been these past few years and many nights had been spent fully awake. As it was now he could already feel the heat from the other male’s body and the scent that was drawing him in...
With as little noise as possible Celice slid beneath the covers, part of him aware how dangerous this was but too weary to honestly care. Somehow the movements didn’t seem to disturb Leaf and so Celice found himself snuggling into the pillow and sheets, breathing deeply of that relaxing scent before closing his eyes to rest slightly. He was just so tired and it was so warm here. He was certain Leaf wouldn’t mind if he stayed like this for a few minutes, but before he could get back up and to the couch he’d fallen asleep once more, this time sleeping through the rest of the night with ease and a soft smile.
