But Iâm neither.
i am fine thank you for asking! though recently there has been a darkness growing within me

Remus was right, Abracadaquiri was definitely going to stay on his mind for a while. âNo Hanks in the spank bank?â Sirius lobbed back, glad he was facing away from most partygoers simply because he wasnât always that great at moderating his own volume. âWhat a shame.â His eyes were still on Remusâs hands sorting through alcohol bottles. Part of him wished heâd been smart enough to take the vermouth out, too, since he didnât like the stuff, but figured his would be kind enough not to poison him that way. âI lied about one hint, though, Moony,â he continued, head tilting to indicate the impending Sophieâs Choice. âWatching you dwell on this is making me nervous. Youâre right on the brink of snapping and throwing together a mix thatâs going to poison me, I can tell. When you think of a Henry Rollins think, like, a German⊠Cowboy. Maybe bring back the mental image of all that leather you were talking about earlier.â Whiskey was a cowboy drink, more or less.
He shrugged, still chuckling at his own joke. âNo Hanks. Got two of the Beatles, though,â he said, squinting into the middle distance, and then his smile dropped suddenly when he realized how that sounded. âOh---please never repeat that, to anyone. I canât even pretend to be proud of that...â
Sirius was pretty spot on, and Remus could tell the hint was offered out of desperation, but heâd take it nonetheless. âGerman cowboy?â A heavy line creased his brow as he settled into thinking about it seriously. âWhiskey, probably... and... schnapps?â He peered disbelievingly at his friend. âHonestly? That sounds vile, Padfoot. Peppermint or peach?â Both seemed like they would result in something positively toxic, and he couldnât believe now that heâd put it together that Sirius actually enjoyed that.Â
He shook his head, not unlike when he got rain on his nose, as his brain rejected the entire concept of that drink. âNo, no. Youâre getting straight whiskey, and youâre gonna like it.â He brightened. âI think Iâve discovered what kind of bartender I am---the kind that serves two drinks, and one of them is whiskey. Take it or leave it.â

When Andromeda bit her lip and seemed to take on a look that was hesitatingly mischievous, Gust knew heâd convinced her enough that sheâd convinced herself. He smiled, genially as she agreed before he gave a light shrug. âWhy try to fight an innate quality? You, Andromeda Black, were born to stand out.â The gusto he spoke with took a tone for the dramatic before he settled into a quiet laugh. âYouâve always been a little different and that isnât necessarily a bad thing, I think. If you really are self-conscious, Iâm sure a transfiguration or charm should work well enough.â
If anyone else had said those words, she would have rolled her eyes without blushing. âAnd you, Augustus Rookwood,â she replied, purposely unfurling every syllable---because two could play the long full-name game, âwere born to encourage people like me to do so.â He had always been an voice of understanding and compassion, in a sea of blank intolerance. It was wonderful to see him again, and she smiled, shaking her head and teasing. âI shouldâve walked away the minute I saw you were here. Youâve always been far too encouraging of me.â That wasnât a terrible idea, however. She chewed her cheek. âAlright, but only for a few minutes, and only to keep people from staring. Then itâs straight back into uniform.â She glanced around, then drew her wand. âIs there a spot away from all these people? I donât want to risk altering my clothes... poorly... in full view of most of the Minisitry,â she whispered to him, grinning slightly. She was skilled at such charms, so disaster wouldnât happen, but then again... it still could.

The Healer swept in and got to work, and Amos found himself somewhat soothed by the way she took control of the situation. Nothing quite like a sudden injury to remind Amos what, exactly, helplessness felt like. He was never any good at healing magic, and apparently not at all good in a crisis. Any sign of the missing tissue? Finally Amosâs stomach turned, and he bit down hard on his bottom lip before pivoting away from Terrence, shoving his hands down into his pockets. âYeah, sure, Hatch, Iâll just go find the bits you tried to leave behind.â There was no guarantee he wouldnât puke if he saw a mass somewhere on the ground but maybe he wouldnât find it at all. âYou came out really fast, we appreciate it.â Amos spared a sidelong glance at the Healer as he trailed past the benches a little ways down the hall. She looked vaguely familiar, in the went-to-Hogwarts sort of way. âI guess he shouldâve paid more attention to all those PSAs about intoxicated apparition we were subject to at school, eh?â
âIntoxication and magic most definitely donât mix, but with a loss of inhibitions, people often consider it worth the risk,â she agreed, partly directing the comment to her charge as she handed a pain relief potion to Mr. Hatch and instructed him to sip it. She applied a paste quickly to the wound, and with a practiced âFerula,â bandaged it up well enough for the time being. If they didnât locate the missing flesh, it wouldnât be a complete loss, but heâd have more scarring than otherwise. âThis was entirely avoidable,â she couldnât help scolding him as she stood.Â
âAt the very least, you have good friends,â she commended, then added quieter to the queasy-looking gentleman, âIâm impressed. Most people are not as composed when they see something like that.â To be fair after the first splinching wound sheâd seen, sheâthrown up in a decorative vase.Â

Sirius had gotten an Acceptable in Potions, himself. He kept dutifully quiet, though, and watched Remus mix his daquiri. The clearly intentional deviation was noted. That didnât mean Sirius was going to say anything about itâ heâd asked for this, and it was hard to really ruin rum. He was, however, delighted at both the pun and the flourish of the finished drink. He took the cup from Remus and swapped it for the water, taking a sip of an admittedly very tart daquiri. Honestly, not bad, but Sirius didnât have much of a sweet tooth to begin with so it went down pretty smoothly. He spoke thoughtfully as he gave a quick running critique. âPoints for trusting your gut and giving it an incredibly embarrassing name. Itâs no Foggy Night, but itâll do. And Iâve got to tell you, just about every other drink is exactly like a daquiri. Unless itâs a long island iced tea, and thatâs just all of the alcohols and little bit of cola on top. Now that youâre trained, youâre good to take the rest of my shift for the night, right?â Sirius teasingly started to ease away from the bar before settling back into his initial half-reclined position. âNow, for my enjoyment, Iâm gonna ask for a Henry Rollins next, which has two alcohols in it, and I think thatâs going to be the only hint Iâve got for you.âÂ
âEmbarrassing name?â Remus asked, offended and more than a little unbelieving. Some people just didnât like to admit when brilliance landed before them. âYou say that like you wonât be writing Abracadaquiri on every menu you possibly can from now on.â
Remus lunged to catch his fingers in the back of Sirius shirt before he could get too far away. âDonât you dare abandon me here, with my one drink I did okay with,â he warned, and only released him when it became clear it was a joke. Not funny, in his opinion---not in the slightest. Heâd sort of let the rest of the party drift into the background of his awareness, until Sirius had said that, and now he was reminded there was a room full of people at his back.
Though with a new challenge issued, he was sufficiently distracted again, and turned his attention to the possible bottles. âWell, thereâs some things that I donât think should be mixed, like whiskey and vodka, or vodka and tequila,â he reasoned aloud. âAmaretto and gin...â So he at least had some guesses at what it wasnât. âYou couldnât have picked one with a more descriptive name? Iâve never tasted a Henry before.â It wasnât said loud enough to reach anyoneâs ears but Siriusâ. He tried not to laugh at his own innuendo, and nearly managed it a good five seconds before cracking up.

âIâll remember that next time.â And Edgar did note it. At the moment, he didnât know any pregnant unicorns, so she was out of luck, but he wouldnât forget. âHm?â Edgar hummed as she looked over and he followed her gaze to see Sirius tending to the bar. âAw, you didnât tell me Sirius would be here!â And he could see Remus just across him. He had no doubt James was around. âThe gangâs all here. I wonder who else is.â Itâd been awhile since he saw much of his classmates and friends, so it was refreshing. âI owe Sirius three galleons. Remind me of that before we leave.â It was only latently when Ameliaâs comment registered. âOh, you donât like Sirius? Is it professional or personal?â
âI couldnât tell you what I didnât know.â She hadnât had a hand in organizing this one----the past few weeks had been busy enough for their department that even if sheâd taken an interest in it, she wouldnât have had the time. âThree galleons?â She peered at him suspiciously. âDid you lose a wager?â Her lips quirked up at the teasing question, but she wasnât about to start pouring out more of the manâs praises than she already had, so instead she played into it. âI think for many people itâs always a bit of both, with him. Shall we go say hello? Or would I lose you to their company for the rest of the evening if we did?"
notsosirixsâ:
âOh, youâre what?â He let out a little gaspâ Remus almost said it. But he caught himself, which took some of the joy out of it. âFine, fine. Just my memories and whatever photos I can get from fifty yards,â Sirius agreed easily, palms lifting. Well, alright, then. He leaned out of their conversation to pour the water that would replace his new favorite drink. Siriusâs shaggy head lifted as Remus talked himself right out of his own concern. âIâd say its not hard, but I remember the D in Potions OWL, so for you it might not be easy.â He was moving to make room behind the bar, easing some of the more volatile magic ingredients away from Remus just in case. Muggle liquors were only ever flammable and he could handle that. âBut Iâll show you some simple stuff. Ever make a daquiri, Moony? Just three ingredients, rum, syrup, lime. The ratio is as follows: three, one, two. This isnât Felix Felicius, youâre allowed, no, encouraged to trust your intuition a little. The measurements donât have to be exact.â The three bottles were aligned on the counter in the order he spoke of them for ease of use. He leaned his elbow up on the counter, content to watch Remus follow his directions.
Heâd suggested it, but the moment the bottles were in front of him, Remus regretted it. He didnât even need Sirius to mention Potions. âIâm already having war flashbacks, actually. Although, for the record, I think at least half of my failure to brew anything was because I had certain friends around, hell bent on distracting me at key moments.â He sighed, then removed the jacket James had given him and carefully laid it on the stool beside him. If this went poorly, he didnât want it to be a casualty.
âThree rum, one syrup, two lime.â Remus repeated, eyeing the bottles. It was easy enough, sure. He added a healthy dash of each bottle to the glass. âOne.â Then set the syrup aside. âTwo.â He poured in equal amounts of the rum and lime, mentally daring Sirius to tell him he was doing anything wrong. Then he put the lime aside with the syrup, and raised his brows at Sirius as he filled the rest of the drink with a âThreeâ of rum. âAbracadaquiriâ, he announced when he was finished.Â
kafkamaraudersâ:
âThatâs a positive way to look at it,â Gust mused with a small nod. âIâm sure since youâre on the clock, you might have to get back, but Reskling is somehow your boss and he did tell you to stay. Maybe you could hang around for an hour or so? You can consider it your lunch.â It been a while since heâd seen Andromeda. A few times since heâd graduated Hogwarts. Really, he heard of her mostly, nowadays. She was a great deal grown now. âIâd love to catch up, Andy,â Gust pressed, hope in his voice to convince her.
âMy bossâs boss, really.â But she was careful to not sound too put out by that. Just because he had the authority to waste her time, didnât mean she needed to respect him for it. Her attention was redirected, however, when Gust tried to convince her to stay. She bit her lip, indecisive, before smiling. âWell, technically, itâs hospital protocol to have someone available to be on call during Ministry events, just in case something serious happens. But... itâs a volunteer duty more than anything else. And I am already here. I suppose I can spare a few minutes.â She looked down at her lime green robes, then over at his much more impressive outfit. âAlthough Iâm not certain I can blend in.â
notsosirixsâ:
Amos was still looking a little green, but at the new voice his head lifted some and he unstuck himself from the wall heâd backed into while waiting for the Healer. âYeah, a splinching,â he answered automatically, hand dragging through his hair. âMaybe, maybe not as serious as Iâd originally suggested, but you can see a lot of the inside of his leg. Thatâs Terrence.â Terrence Hatch from the Office of Misinformation was missing a good chunk of his calf and ankle after trying to Apparate home drunker than a skunk. It had done wonders to kill Amosâs own buzz somewhat. Atleast he hadnât thrown up.
At least it wasnât anything too major. Andromeda smiled briefly at the nervous looking gentleman, but that was more bedside manner than actual warmth. He did seem like he could use the reassurance. âYou did the right thing.âÂ
She kneeled to inspect the injury and spoke briefly to the injured wizard to determine what she could administer for the pain (with some difficulty and much patience, given his inebriation), but then directed her next question to his more sober companion. âIs there any sign of the missing tissue? Would you mind checking around, just in case itâs nearby, while I get him comfortable?âÂ
