As Above, So Below (2014)
the hive is cultural genocide. the hive is forced assimilation. the hive is erasure, metaphor and symbolism, colonial violence and the aftershocks of conquest. the hive is an abusive, lying farce, a pacification the equivalent of the coca-cola monopoly in the altiplano, the coffee grown by indigenous hands erased at the end of the supply chain.
the hive is the metaphor of the modern era.
by Dom Aguiar
The hive allowing Carol to slowly be driven to suicidality so that she’ll come crawling back to her out of abject loneliness and emotional starvation and at no point do they tell her someone is looking for her. Someone believes in her. He’s putting his life on the line for her. She is his only hope. They let her believe she’s really alone for a month. Totally alone. Universally hated. But she’s not, but what she doesn’t know can’t hurt them!
watching Pluribus and I cannot help but think of people who have not undergone severe, complex abuse. you'll have a completely different reading of the hive mind. you won't see the manipulation, the passive (or outright)- aggressive behavior. you won't see the abandonment. you won't see the "we're doing what's best for you" condescension - at least, not in a way that tears something open in your chest.
if the hive seems idealistic to you, I need you to think about why that is, and what you're losing in the process.
Paris (by Louis Pellissier)
You don’t know me. I’m sorry, but that’s true. You don’t know who I am anymore.Â
Louis Stettner Penn Station, New York City 1958
