Goodbye for now

So I'm officially going to log off, so thank you Tumblr despite your flaws (which is a fucking lot of it btw ) you done great things to me, learning about new fandom's (I'm probably never going to know how great of a show Hannibal was if wasn't for Tumblr), getting to meet great content creators (even if my social anxiety is not having it) and rekindling my old flame towards this many shows, manga and books (ie Tsubasa chronicles, Get backers, Harry Potter, One piece, Detective Conan/Magic Kaito, Death Note and Kingdom Hearts)

So farewell for know, so I hope I get to see you guys after all this pandemonium is resolved, and finally a big thank you to all my followers for always been with me (for reasons I don't know why? Why do you guys following me? All I do is shit post and reblog random stuff but I appreciated it thank you guys for everything)

The photo above is the closest humanity has ever come to creating Medusa. If you were to look at this, you would die instantly. 

The image is of a reactor core lava formation in the basement of the Chernobyl nuclear plant. It’s called the Elephant’s Foot and weighs hundreds of tons, but is only a couple meters across.

Oh, and regarding the Medusa thing, this picture was taken through a mirror around the corner of the hallway. Because the wheeled camera they sent up to take pictures of it was destroyed by the radiation. The Elephant’s Foot is almost as if it is a living creature.

Have I told y’all about my husband’s Fork Theory?  If I did already, pretend I didn’t, I’m an old.

So the Spoon Theory is a fundamental metaphor used often in the chronic pain/chronic illness communities to explain to non-spoonies why life is harder for them. It’s super useful and we use that all the time. But it has a corollary.  You know the phrase, “Stick a fork in me, I’m done,” right? Well, Fork Theory is that one has a Fork Limit, that is, you can probably cope okay with one fork stuck in you, maybe two or three, but at some point you will lose your shit if one more fork happens.  A fork could range from being hungry or having to pee to getting a new bill or a new diagnosis of illness. There are lots of different sizes of forks, and volume vs. quantity means that the fork limit is not absolute. I might be able to deal with 20 tiny little escargot fork annoyances, such as a hangnail or slightly suboptimal pants, but not even one “you poked my trigger on purpose because you think it’s fun to see me melt down” pitchfork.

This is super relevant for neurodivergent folk. Like, you might be able to deal with your feet being cold or a tag, but not both. Hubby describes the situation as “It may seem weird that I just get up and leave the conversation to go to the bathroom, but you just dumped a new financial burden on me and I already had to pee, and going to the bathroom is the fork I can get rid of the fastest.”

I like this and also I like the low key point that you may be able to cope with bigger forks by finding little ones you can remove quickly. A combination of time, focus, and reduction to small stressors that can allow you to focus on the larger stressor in a constructive way.

Except, this issue happens every single day and it’s basically my whole life and it sucks and yeah. How can I NOT talk about something that happens to me every day.

I have chronic knee pain and chronic anxiety/depression. I know that if I disclose those things, I will probably not be hired for any jobs. So instead, I say nothing. When I have to call out of work for my legs or my brain, I tell them I’m sick some other way. “I have a fever;” “I’ve been coughing all day;” “I just threw up and don’t think I should come in,” are all considered valid excuses. When I tell my bosses those things, I am excused and told that they hope I feel better. I have had panic attacks at work four times at two separate jobs. Of those, two of them I was told I needed to stay and keep working, and the third she said, as I was struggling to breathe, “Are you sure you can’t stay?” The last I chose to stay because I’d already called out that week and didn’t want to lose my job. Chronic illness of any kind is never considered a “real reason” to call out of work. You’re expected to just deal with the bad days because, “It’s chronic, don’t you deal with it all the time?” It’s absolute bullshit.
