I was wondering if the pinky might have an injury or disability but actually on reflection it is clear that when Harry did his deal with the devil to become the most charming human to ever exist that the devil excluded the pinky and it became the repository of all Harry’s normal human ordinariness and if he ever allows it to touch anything in The World then the deal will be revoked and The Charm will fade and he will return to mundanity and a life of data entry or Teams meetings with Tony from accounts and such.

Am I to understand that after all my loyal years of fealty and admiration, Harry Styles partook in an SNL sketch all about the unsexiness of Irish women???!

Well! I’m so annoyed I may just have to roll up the sleeves of my woolly jumper, set aside this plate of colcannon, and do something practical and measured in response! While exhibiting a wry self-deprecating sense of humour.

It’s because people are mad that the album didn’t match their assumptions of it. Harry never said he was gonna put out another hs1, Harry’s house or extremely experimental piece that would shake the world. The internet made a narrative and then got mad when he didn’t deliver. The people who were curious to see what he would do with his art did end up liking it. We’re not used to musicians making things purely for themselves. I wish some people would just let others enjoy music

Real real & real. Idk why people expected a full techno or disco album. This title is kiss all the time not disco all the time. & we do disco OCCASIONALLY.

One thing I reallllyyyy love is how much this album shows what the DNA of a Harry Styles record looks like regardless of genre or direction. Kissco really illustrates what defines his music, which is:

genuine instrumentation above computer generated beats, all picked and tuned meticulously

A slow ballad or 2 guaranteed

Carefully composed & placed harmonies

Songs with a production that mimics lyrical meaning (for ex: PBN, the production starts to deconstruct at the end in parallel to colors running beyond the lines in the lyrics, or the tension between the stripped back RSG pre-chorus & the bursting chorus that mimics the tension between lust & love in the lyric)

Emphasis on the full album unit over single-song potential. He cares about how an album sounds in the full-run through more than most artists, and always delivers a product that sounds cohesive as a whole but different track-by-track

Just for me - my first listen review - taking notes as I listen along.

(BTW unfortunately I’m not in accord with the almost universal acclaim so don’t read if you are having the best time with this album release and want to keep celebrating! Nothing worse that a debbie downer at the party)

Aperture - oooh yeah love love love it but we knew that already

Next 3 songs … I don’t … I don’t think I like it … oh

I thought we were getting a dance album. This is not a dance album. These songs sound exactly like the album an ex-1D member would put out. Louis Tomlinson’s latest single and these ones belong together. (This is a neutral statement)

Taste back - oh the relief. Yes. This is more like it. I will just have to skip through from Aperture to this one in the future.

Waiting Game - loving the little plink plonks. Soothing and sad.

Season 2 Weight Loss - interesting. This is the weirder stuff I had been expecting but it’s got a discomforting empty kind of feeling that is unusual for HS music. This is v good. It sounds like something else I can’t remember just now.

Coming Up Roses - so this isn’t a dance song either sigh - very pretty and lovely though!! This album’s Matilda?

Pop - ok we’re back with some bass and beats. But more of that empty dispirited atmosphere. Putting this one in the ex-1D category.

Dance no more - what is this reminding me of? It’s bugging me!

Paint by numbers - oh nice!

Carla’s Song - gorgeous!! Yes!!! Might be my favourite!

So - liking about half of this album and I think I’m going to like that half more with another few listens.

I wonder if my problem is that I was expecting something very different- based on Aperture and all his talk of clubbing. The energy level here is not going to power me through Sat morning house-cleaning like I had hoped.

The softer ballady type songs are really lovely.

As a whole album experience though it is very incoherent (for me). I think I’ll be adding specific songs onto playlists rather than listening right the way through.
