Something about such a subject only minimally bothered him --- something that felt like it should be concerning. But at the same time, he knew he always had such a twisted sense of humor even before all of this. Still, it felt like something colder lurked beneath the surface- that old familiar nearly-monster. The same that had bursted out once or twice in the past. but here - where were the coping mechanisms ..? Ways to keep it in fuckin' check?

At the very least her response seemed neutral enough towards his comment - but who wasn't just as scathed in this world? It was so easy to get lost within his mind. Far too easy, he mentally noted. In fact, the entirety of her being seemed all but naturally responding - something that could easily tell him from a first glance she had a good enough head on her shoulders. At least from a first glance. But she finally spoke again ; and it snapped him out of his analyzing mode. Eyes snapped back up to her face, as he tilted his head.

He cracked a smirk quick enough, doing a random swing in the air with it. Oh, how he loved it. He was growing on it more and more... Perhaps he should eventually name it? Much like a car, or ship. Why not? Fingers rubbed against the surface, thankful that he had found a pair of gloves. One never knew if they'd accidentally hit themselves with their own weapon - but he knew what form to keep with this sort of specific weapon. "No, not fuckin' particularly!" he exclaimed, letting it calm down by his side now. "But still .. Numbers are quite useful within a world like this."

Was she one of the strong ? A philosophy that had been creeping into his mind more. ".. Hell, you can always try it out." He shrugged.

"Am I not hot enough for you?"

Egotistical, yes - but if it worked? Then all the better.

That one swing of his bat was more than enough to allow Kyleigh to pick up on the scent of blood, causing her to force down a gag. It was bad enough the stench of it was all around outside, she didn't need it all up in her face too. But she stood her ground, the animal inside refusing to allow her to back down. This was still her place and she was allowing this other human to be inside of it with her.

At least this man understood that there was zero chance she was ever going to trust him. He might be right in the sense that numbers were good now, but what use would they be if there wasn't some shred of trust between them? And how did she know he wouldn't get her back outside just for her to be ambushed by a bunch of other people? Her head tilted slightly upwards into the air but she detected no other living scent in the area. Hmmm.

That last question he asked her caused a snort to leave the half lycan, her hand finally placing the blade she had been holding back onto her belt. If she even gave a shit about that part of her life any longer she would have laughed right in his face, but she figured it would be better to waste that energy on something else.

"Nice try dude, but that doesn't work on me. You're old enough to be my father and I'm just trying to make it to see another day without getting ripped apart by those things walking around. Look if you want to search this place for yourself then leave, that's fine with me. If not, I'm not your old lady, I can't tell you what to do."

She looked around the store again, making a mental list of the light things she wanted to pick up. After that, well Kyleigh didn't really know what she was going to do. Probably just keep walking north until it became dark, then camp out for the night. Letting out a sigh she turned her attention back to the man, studying him some more before she spoke.

"What's your name?"

If he hadn’t had a mouth full of french toast, Stephon would have started grinning at the sound of her words. He already had a strong suspicion that she was into him, and his instinct only grew stronger the more time they spent hanging out together. “Us spending time together would be dope. I lowkey wished we got to do more things together.” Of course since he was busy with things outside of AEW it wasn’t possible for it to happen as often as he liked. It was the reason he was looking forward to the game so much. He fell silent as he finished his food, leaning forward to place his empty plate on the tray everything had come on. “I need to change. I almost forgot about this podcast I agreed to record.” He jumped to his feet before heading over to his bag to grab a change of clothes. “Do you have to head to the airport soon? Or are you trying to come through with me? It shouldn’t take more than an hour or so.” He said as he grabbed a clean graphic tee and a pair of black jeans.

Thank god she had swallowed what was in her mouth already because at Stephon's words Kyleigh damn near choked. She was so happy to hear that he wished they could spend more time together, thinking the same thing but way too afraid to say it herself. Instead she just nodded, finishing up her waffles because she always ate faster than anyone else. Feeling like their little fun bubble was burst the moment he mentioned having to go to this podcast thing, the half lycan tried her best not to let it show on her face. She knew at some point they would have to go their separate ways for whatever reasons, she just didn't think it would be this soon. Her head shot up fast when he asked if she wanted to go with him, a smile so big on her face it went all the way up to her eyes. "Yeah I'll go with you! I mean if that's okay. I don't want to intrude on anything." Oh yeah because that was real smooth. Plus who would she say she was in relation to him? A friend? Business partner? Assistant? Well it didn't really matter, she was sure he would find some way to answer that question if it came up.

When Derrick got into the service he had no intention of staying as long as he did. He fully intended to go for College, but somehow along the way it ended up being a career for him. “Impressive. I was Sergeant Major. Toward the end of my career I dealt with the new recruitments. Training them and whatnot.” Despite the fact he had retired the year Ashlyn moved away, he still got calls every so often asking if he was interested in coming back. But now was the time he wanted to spend with his wife, and finally give her the chance to open up her catering business she always wanted to get off the ground. He unpaused the game, groaning as he watched Stephon make a basket. “So Stephon. I had the opportunity to watch one of your recent matches. You’ve very talented. What made you decide to jump into a wrestling career?” He asked out of curiosity, still playing the game as they both went on speaking. The fact that they seemed so in the zone while talking was mind blowing to Deshawn. He needed complete silence when he was playing, otherwise he would screw up in a second. 

“I’ve been wearing Jordans since I was in the 3rd grade. There might be a pair in there that you can squeeze your tiny feet into!” She teased. “If you can find a pair and they’re still in good quality. Take them. They're yours.” While Kyleigh continued to admire her shoes, Ashlyn made her way over to her closet to see what she could find. It was pure luck that she discovered her old yearbook. “Oh my god. Look what I found!” She brought the book over and opened it until she found her senior picture. “My bang was hideous. You can totally tell that I tried trimming it myself.” She giggled as she showed Kyleigh the picture.

While he couldn't remember all of the ranks (too many hits to the head he figured), Stephon knew that Derrick's was the more impressive one out of the two of them. A person really had to earn their stripes to be trusted with new recruits. To this day he sometimes had dreams about his time in training, being woken up before the sun rose in the morning, yelled at for hours on end, happy to crawl into bed at night. Man he wouldn't go back to that time for anything, but he was proud of serving his country for the time that he had. "I bet you didn't take any shit." He knew that some of the new guys could be mouthy, but one look at the older man was enough to shut anyone up. What he did not expect was for Derrick to have watched him while in the ring, a slight panic washing over him. Some of his matches could get a bit intense and he hoped that Ashlyn's father didn't think he was like that all of the time. Bringing his attention back to the game as well a slow smile came to his face, always happy to tell the story of how his career began. "It's funny because I played normal sports while I was in high school; football, basketball, track and field. Even entered a few talent shows. But I never thought of wrestling until I was almost out of the service. I kept seeing videos online of people doing these crazy stunts and hearing the crowds cheering for them. So of course I thought, well I can do that. I tried out for this one training school in Pennsylvania and after a few shows I was hooked. Guess performing has just always been in my blood."

"Hey! My feet are perfectly sized for the rest of me." Kyleigh pouted for a second before she laughed. She only learned about Jordans from watching the man himself play against the Celtics at a few games, but didn't get her first pair of them until high school. "I can't take any of yours Ash! Some day these will be collectors items, and you want them to be as clean as possible." Hearing that Ash found another treasure she quickly made her way over towards the other woman, a soft giggle escaping her when she saw Ash's picture. "Stop! I mean you can kind of tell but so what, it still looked cute! You're one of those lucky girls that can wear just about any haircut. Well I wouldn't go bald if I were you…" She joked. It felt so good to have a moment like this, just two best friends cracking jokes with each other while visiting family.

“Why you bringing up old stuff? Besides none of that matters. It’s all about who still in the game, and the Knicks? Oh, yeah. We in there.” He chuckled. Truth be told the fact that she was willing to tease him back made him like her more. Could this girl be any more perfect? When she mentioned that no one could ever be interested in her, it took everything in him not to grin from ear to ear. Also to not let it slip that there was someone right here who was beyond interested in her. “I don’t think you realize the impact you have.” And he decided to leave his answer at that. He went about eating his french toast, taking a moment to glance at his phone when he got a notification from his email. He quickly read it, but didn’t reply since he had Kyleigh over for company. “Oh, yeah. The game is on a Monday.” He said as he placed his phone to the side to finish eating his food. “You’re good to go, right?”

As much as she hated to admit it, Stephon was right. His team was still in the game so he had every right to brag for now. But she did like the fact that he wasn't immediately turned off by her being into sports and knowing more about it other than who the 'cute' players were. And she actually enjoyed going to games, yelling probably a bit too much, and walking out upset when her team lost. Boy was he in for one hell of a night heading to a game with her! What he said about her not knowing the impact she had only made her want to know even more who this person was. Kyleigh didn't think she was doing anything special, just showing up to work and doing what she was paid to do. Who noticed the people behind the scenes anyway? Shaking her head she went back to her own food, humming happily at how good it was. Not that it was hard to mess up waffles, but sometimes they were just overly sweet or cooked for too long. "Mmhmm." She nodded, using a napkin to wipe off her mouth. "We'll already be in town and usually that's when the talent does local news shows or whatever for promotion, the rest of us just chill or go sight seeing. It'll be nice to have something to do, with you." A quick glance was thrown his way before she returned her attention back to her plate, hoping that she hadn't overstepped herself.

Derrick had his attention on the TV screen the entire time. He was a huge sports geek, and would really get into the game, especially when he had someone there to play with him. “Step back. Three!” he groaned as the basket was missed and someone from Stephon’s team grabbed the ball. When Stephon asked him if he was part of the service, that was enough to capture his attention. “I was in the army for 30 years.” He replied. “I thought my nephew was going to follow my lead and retire as well.” Deshawn glanced up from his phone. “I put in enough time.” He replied. “I’m sure Stephon feels me. You were in the service too, right?” Hearing that made Derrick pause the game and turn his attention to the younger man. “Really? How long did you serve?” He asked, clearly impressed with what he was hearing. 

When Kyleigh mentioned the picture of her and Deshawn, she made her way over to her nightstand that held a few pictures. It was one they took at her Grandma’s house, the two sharing a couple of snow cones as they sat out on the back porch. Her dad had insisted on them both smiling when all she wanted was to enjoy her treat before it melted. “I looked like such a tomboy, but thank you.” She replied. In the picture she was wearing a pair of shorts and a Team 7 shirt. It was Naruto’s team which consisted of him, Sasuke, Sakura, and Kakashi. “I’m pretty sure my Mom got that from the boy’s department. My cousin April teased me so much, but Dee took up for me.” She said with a smile. “This is something you will really enjoy.” She led the way over to a small corner of her room where she had a bunch of shoe boxes lined up. Inside were a few pairs of Jordans she wore as a kid. “If I wasn’t sure they would fall apart from just sitting all this time, I would bring a few of these back home.” She said, opening the box with her favorite pair which were a pair of black, red, and white Jordan 12’s.

It wasn't lost on Stephon how both himself and Derrick had their eyes glued to the television screen but were also paying close attention to everything else around them. That had to be a part of their shared military training or the fact that they were fathers. He couldn't count how many times he would be three quarters deep into a game and would have to catch something one of his kids threw across the room at their sibling like a second reflex. Smirking as he took the ball from the older man he moved his man down the court, remembering that he was given permission not to take it easy just because he was playing Ashlyn's father. He was just about to have his man line up a sweet shot when Deshawn mentioned his military service and the game was put on pause. "Yes sir I was. Army Reserve, Signal Support Systems Specialist for eight years. My father was an Army man himself, in fact I spent the first seven years of my life in Germany where he was stationed at the time." Combined with his special training he had spent just about ten years in service, but that was nothing compared to the man sitting next to him.

"Please! You've always been cute. And there's nothing wrong with being a tomboy!" Of course Kyleigh knew at that age everything felt wrong being friends with boys, or not liking the same things the other girls did. In time she learned not to care about that, some of her closest friends growing up were male. She loved hearing that even back then Ash and Dee were close, it let her know that there were families out there that spent time together and looked out for one another. It made her wonder if that would happen with her own little one, though she already knew that this child was going to have the most loving family even if it was just him or her. Moving over towards the boxes with Ash the half lycan started to grin, doing her happy dance when she saw the older Jordans. "I wanted a pair of those so bad when they came out!! My aunt looked into it but when she saw the price, even for my size, she said no. In her words: 'That man doesn't even know you exist, I'm not giving him my hard earned money!'. You have such a nice stash here man! I'm jealous." Kyleigh teased.

Caspian takes a deep breath. Kyleigh was right. He walked over to the guards. As much as he hated ordering people he was going to anyway. The guards stood straight and they looked at their king in the eye.

“ My king, would you like us to keep an eye out on this individual?” he asked. Caspian made a small frown. He turns to the wolf who was still mostly asleep. He wondered what is keeping this strange wolf sleeping and not waking up? Could it be hibernation for him? Was that a thing?

Caspian turns to Kyleigh for suggestion. Maybe she should tell the guards what to do. He gently nudged her for support. “ This is my friend, she will be giving you your tasks. I trust her and you should to.” Caspian said. He winked towards his friend. He trusted Kyleigh with this. He believed she can do it.

She knew her gentle friend didn't like to give orders, but in this situation it was necessary. Caspian was king after all and he had to look out for his people. This new wolf could be friend or foe, and if it chose the latter they all needed to be prepared for anything. As he spoke to his guards Kyleigh kept watch, trying to pick up on some kind of clue as to why it was there.

What she did not expect was for Caspian to turn to her of all people, a bit of a shocked expression crossing her face. If she was in charge she would have tried to wake the creature and get information out of it, but she knew that wouldn't be what Caspian would want. Thinking over a more peaceful option she then turned towards his guards, hoping they would listen to her.

"Give it some more time, then I would suggest trying to wake the wolf up. It would be best if we could find out what it's doing here and what it wants. Hopefully it's just lost or something." That would be the best case scenario. The strange being had been traveling and somehow found it's way to the island with no ill intentions.
