While anyone can get lupus, the disease most often affects women. In fact, women make up about nine out of ten adults with the disease.
Clinical trials are a kind of clinical research designed to evaluate and test new interventions such as psychotherapy or medications. Clinical trials are often conducted in four phases. The trials at each phase have a different purpose and help scientists answer different questions.
Most kidney diseases attack the nephrons. This damage may leave kidneys unable to remove wastes. Causes can include genetic problems, injuries, or medicines.

Lupus Research Alliance Prompted Stelara® Study for Lupus – Results Show Potential for New Treatment Option!
We are excited to share compelling new Phase 2 data, presented at the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) annual meeting that demonstrated significant benefit for lupus patients receiving Stelara® (ustekinumab), a prescription medicine from the Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies. Stelara® is not approved for the treatment of lupus, but is approved by the FDA for treating certain autoimmune diseases. Through our drug repurposing program, the Lupus Research Alliance first identified Stelara® as a potential treatment for lupus and collaborated with Janssen to pursue testing for this use. Each person with lupus has slightly different symptoms that can range from mild to severe and may come and go over time. However, some of the most common symptoms of lupus include painful or swollen joints (arthritis), unexplained fever, and extreme fatigue. Learn more about symptoms of lupus at lupusresearch.org
