“Some things can’t be sorted out hastily. We wait here, scope the situation and the surroundings, and approach as needed. We’ll get the job done either way. Cleanly.” He needn’t glance over, fully aware of the pain at his side. Dante’s threat was nothing but empty, a try for amusement in Vergil’s mind. Hawk’s eyes peered over the cityscape that sprawled out before the twins, the area of interest directly ahead. Mankind aloof as always, going about their evening. All was calm. “I don’t see how you’d put your time to better use, anyway. What we’re doing here is fulfilling, and it’s for the greater good.”

“’Greater good’ my left nut,” He scoffs, visibly irritated. He hates these missions, hates how his brother was always so condescending. How he seemed to always know what would happen before it even happened. “Demons don’t attack humans, not unless they’re like Kat. Flamboyant or whatever, sensitive to spirits. Are we recruiting again, looking for those that don’t merge? Thought you had enough with herding cats, seeing as they all panic. Wonder when one of ‘em is gonna snatch me or you and run. Think the government knows about us? Are we targets for them, too? Are we going to be hunted down by the FBI? I saw a movie like that once, you know the one. You fell asleep during it and I put shaving cream on your hand, remember?” He’s rambling.

 astrid is nervous about it all, to say the least. the instinct is to shrink under his touch, but he doesn’t seem malicious – at least, from what astrid can tell. it’s always foggy with new people, and there are so very few of them. ‘ um, i mean, alright … where are we going, again? i can’t be out forever, though. ‘

“Tavern a few blocks down, think you can handle it?” Of course, he wouldn’t push her forward if she didn’t want to. He knew better than to urge it, and she didn’t seem the sort to do things on impulse. “It won’t be forever, promise. I’ll have you back with them before the moon’s out.”

There is skill in his hand, he knows it well, he’s been practicing for as long as he could remember. The twirling of a lighter was nothing short of simple, though it did keep his hands occupied as he tries to shake it off.

There was little thought in it, he hadn’t considered the fact that Sarah had her ear pressed against the bathroom door. There was a reason it was shut and locked; he didn’t want her anywhere near him. 

If she did cast a glance at him, she would fuss as she usually would, and he would never hear the end of it. How he promised to let it go, how he promised to do better, to clean himself up. But even for her, it was a stretch. 

So he sat, back against the wall of the tub, knee bent up so his arm may rest on it. Vomit clung to the corners of his mouth, drying slowly. The sharp scent pierced his nose, nearly making him sick again. 

“‘m okay…” Voice is low, he knows, hoarse from the coughing she may or may not have had the pleasure of hearing. “Just, uh. Gimme a couple minutes, will ya?”
