I made this about a year ago, when Pikmin 4 was finally revealed--
I was so happy u don't even know 🥺🙏
Today's Results has always been one of my favorite tunes in the series, I think I've remixed it like. 4 times in my life already
also I only just realized that the text is a transliteration of "Tuweyz Results", not "Today's Results" LOL
Here's Today's Results in proper il'Suastet script:
on the one hand I want to keep this tumblr clean for when I eventually start posting sequential lore or comics here on the other hand...
luscept asked how one "discovers" a new species and ensures it has truly never been named or documented before. My reply function is broken and I'm a little sick today but I will try to explain:
Basically, you would need to have an understanding of the species of that thing expected in the location, so you can notice when something is unusual. Obviously this is much more difficult for something like bugs (millions of species) compared to birds (10,000 species), which is why many people end up specializing in a small group of bugs (or shrimp, or lichen) to make the number more manageable.
I've been studying the fairy shrimp and clam shrimp in Florida for a few years now, so if you picked a random part of FL I could generally tell you what species to expect living there. You get to this point by reading all the published articles you can get your hands on and visiting museums to see specimens of each species for yourself. This is what museum collections are for - to have a record of what we know (see my pinned post for example of what happens when museum people don't care about their jobs, which unfortunately happens A LOT with shrimp because they are less popular than beetles or butterflies and people are petty like that).
So, I know what fairy and clam shrimp are theoretically in Two Egg before I go. Four species are almost definitely there, and another seven are found vaguely close-by (ex: other parts of the deep south). If I was to go and find something that was clearly not one of the 11 "normal" shrimps, then it would be up to me to determine if it had been described before. It could be invasive or introduced, so now I need to learn about shrimp all over the world.
If the shrimp or bug STILL doesn't match anything from anywhere on earth, you will probably need to look at some holotypes - the original example of a species - to make absolutely sure your thing is different from everything else (again, check my pinned post for what happens when people don't care about holotypes). If you work for a university or organization you can sometimes arrange to have holotypes mailed directly to you, but you can also go to museums in person to look at the holotypes yourself. Sometimes people are mean and horrible and they won't let you see their holotypes, and at that point you are out of luck. Sometimes holotypes are destroyed by fire or negligence (thanks Paul & GB) and there is nothing left to reference. It takes a lot of work and expertise to make a neotype to be used instead, and at this point we are already talking about months of work. You also don't get any money for doing this, so unless you're crafty enough to get a grant (more work) you are generally paying for this adventure yourself.
In a perfect world, you see the holotypes and see that your bug or shrimp really is 100% different and new. Then you would make a publication announcing the species to the world, including info on where it was living and drawings or photos to illustrate how it is different from all the others. In practice I've been working on describing one species of clam shrimp for over five years. I'll let you know how it goes.
That's so interesting! Thank you for the very detailed response, also feel better soon!

HI I UH. ACCIDENTALLY PUBLISHED THE RIBBY DEMO OST PREORDER EARLY LOL https://diamondthorns.bandcamp.com/album/ribby-the-game-the-demo-the-soundtrack
for $6 you'll get high-quality streams, downloads, and source files of the game's 21 tracks, with four whole songs being available right away! wow!!! whoa!!!!!
(shares are greatly appreciated! i know music doesn't tend to do well on tumblr but it would mean a lot to me to spread the good word of bibby thegame)
OK, I have made a patreon page. there is just one tier now and it's $3 per month. I'm going to post WIPs and updates on what I'm working on every so often, both for you all and to hopefully kick myself in gear a little. VAST majority of my art will always be free to view.
There's not much to see now, but hopefully I can use this page to post screenshots of games I'm working on without clogging up this page and my tumblr. Please do not feel obligated to support, but if you really want to do so I would really be touched. Thank you all.

Zac can't easily use magic.
He's trying to teach Van how to do magic (Zac has all the book smarts but can't do it himself because he's in too much emotional wibbly wobbly to focus his spirit)
