I had characters that were dependent on stories I made in the past with abusive, terrible people, and those characters now bear the memories of those abusive, terrible people. but you know what my fursona is? my fursona is a representation of me. my poor experiences are my sona’s. as I overcome my trauma, I overcome trauma associated with my fursona.

no one can ruin him for me. no one can take him away. when I’m upset, I can manipulate him into what I want. I can make him punk. I can put him in the clothes I can’t afford. I can put him in the fashion I’ll never wear. I can either draw him like my body type and help myself cope with dysphoria, or I can draw him in the body type I eventually want to have. I can draw him with other people and other characters.

and the animal aspect is representative too. I know people who are slow and tired who make sloth sonas. people who feel like they’re dirty who make raccoon sonas. people who want to strive for knowledge and make owl sonas. it’s a representation of who you are and who you want to be. your fursona is your ideal you. they’re a coping mechanism and a goal all at once.

When did freedom of expression suddenly become an online crime? When did an attack on a specific subset of any group ever work to the benefit of any institution?

In this bloggers humble opinion, Tumblr’s December 17th forced genocide of Adult Content blogs is just another example of how our society is slipping backwards in its level of tolerance towards anything that is different, preferring to have this type of content hidden away, and marked with a scarlet letter of intolerance and shame.

Are there issues revolving around certain types of blogs Yes. Child pornography and other unacceptably content is abhorrent to all. Is Tumblr going after those specific types of blogs? No. Are they setting up a system that blocks minors from accessing adult content blogs? No. They are preferring to follow a simplistic “nuke it all” approach rather than address the overall problem. Taking a M.A.D (mutually assured destruction) approach, can only end in one way, for without adult content, Tumblr will die off.

So my friends and followers(93k amazing individuals), I challenge you to reblog this note, and challenge Tumblr’s decision. Perhaps, if enough of us stand up and protest some good will come of it. Resist, and fight the good, and honourable, fight.

It’s not a social media site like tumblr - it’s open-source code that allows anyone to create a social media site, which can then interact with other sites using that code. To say Mastodon has “lax regulations” is really misleading, because Mastodon itself has no regulations, it only has tools for moderators to regulate their own instances

Mastodon “allows” pedophiles in the same way that email “allows” identity theft scams. No, “email” doesn’t put a stop to identity theft, but “email” is just a set of protocols for sending messages - it’d be absurd to expect it to

Most Mastodon instances (including mastodon.social, the largest and oldest) do more to keep pedophiles off their platform than tumblr ever has, by having strict rules against it, banning any instances that don’t have strict rules against it, and actively moderating to enforce those rules. At that point it’s as if the pedophiles are on a different website entirely - because they literally are on a different domain

As someone who actually uses it, I can confirm that I’ve never had or even heard of a run-in with pedophiles. Admins know the instances that allow it and quickly block and spread the word about any new ones that pop up. Again, it’s been more of an issue for me on tumblr than it’s ever been on masto

Please reblog this. People love spreading this rumor without knowing what they’re talking about, and it’s driving people away from non-corporate, community-controlled, secure open-source social media. And that’s a real big shame

Yahoo is a notorious repeat offender. Yahoo is the reason the “if you’re not paying money for a service, then you’re not a customer, you’re the product.” saying exists.

Here is some fully general advice: If you’re the user of a free-to-use website, and you learn that it’s being bought by a large company, then this is always, and forever, bad news. If it’s not an acquihire, then it’s something worse. You’re not a customer, you’re the product.

If we’re lucky, this will be a Livejournal-style buyout, where the site just gradually disintegrates over the course of several years. If we’re unlucky, then it’ll be a Posterous-style buyout, and Tumblr will be shut down when Yahoo goes bankrupt in six months. It is vanishingly unlikely that being owned by Yahoo will benefit Tumblr users at all.

Predictions:

More ads. Karp has a weirdly principled dislike of ads, for a guy running a free social network. Marissa Mayer is unencumbered by morals, here. If you spend a billion dollars on something, you’re gonna want a return on income.

NSFW content is probably going to be banned, or heavily restricted. (As in, “verify your age by giving us a credit card number”) Ad networks hate and fear porn, and Yahoo is going to run more ads. No other Yahoo property allows NSFW content, for precisely this reason.

They might try to restrict fan content, due to copyright/CP concerns, as Livejournal did; they might not.

This isn’t just about ‘oh no you can’t look at people fucking anymore’ (even though lots of sex workers are losing their means of supporting themselves). This goes a lot further, with a lot more chilling effects.

The sexualizing of things like ‘top surgery’ or declaring all ‘trans’ tagged things to be … sexual… is really, REALLY fucked up. Someone else reported a picture of a cartoon scorpion with a hard hat on being flagged as pornography. Tagging things as ‘queer’ or ‘gay’ gets them flagged NSFW. (Hey, guess what I’d been tagging my t-shirts, because they’re pride stuff? Oh right. Queer. Gay. Pride.)

This is a fucking problem, let’s not blow it off.

I know some people are too young (or simply weren’t involved in fandom back then) to remember what went down with livejournal and a couple of other sites “back in the day”, but it all started out as “it’s okay, we’re just removing the nasty porn”, and then “okay well, just make sure you put your porn behind a cut, no, wait jk you need to host it externally, a link is fine, maybe” and pretty much devolved swiftly into “actually sweety, LGBT content is inherently NSFW by default because it might make the kiddies gay if we expose them to it, so y’all need to leave now byyyeeee”.

Like…that happened. And it took nearly a decade for the fandom spaces to recover and stabilize and to get to the point where LGBT content creators could host their content without being told “you’re not welcome here” and I’m just sitting here, watching as youtube demonetizes LGBT content creators, and Facebook flags up LGBT ads as “inappropriate” and now tumblr is going through the queer and gay tags and just mass blanketing it as inappropriate, while actual pornbots and nazis wind up in my recommended feed.

Like I am uncomfortable y’all. I am looking around at everything I’ve built and all the friends I’ve made and I know we’re all looking for the next safe space to jump to while hoping we don’t lose each other overnight like “the olden days” where you’d wake up and your fave blogger was just gone.

And usually it was because they’d drawn or written something as simple yet explicit as a kiss. It was just the wrong kind of kiss.

So yea, the sky is not falling, but the ice under our feet sure is making worrying sounds.

I didn't manage to cultivate a proper following here and I just stopped caring. But this is absurd and we need not let this sight survive because of it. I've spent more time on this site browsing in recent day exclusively because I want to watch this shithole burn to the ground due to its hubris. People please stop reblogging that post about that person who got ~fired~ after “working on akali for 9 months” it’s a straight up lie. Check out the real people behind the video, a french studio named Fortiche. Nothing in that post adds up. A lot of fortiche members actually have instagrams with the actual process, it was a contract so riot games had no one to “fire” since it wasn’t an in house job, and even if there was nobody would fire a person who could work ON THEIR OWN on a project like that (which is impossible btw.)

Please think before you reblog shit like that, it discredits every people fighting against exploitation in the video game industry. Just… stop. Inform yourselves.

the big giveaway is that people in the character design industry do NOT talk shit about past jobs, no matter how bad, because to be blunt that’s how you basically ensure you’re not going to be hired again. no one wants an employee who’s going to talk shit about them afterward, and artists know that. my guess is that one post was made for notes, and the reason the account behind it was deactivated was so that no one could go on their blog and actually see the utter lack of evidence to support their claim of being an artist at all.

my understanding - and someone should correct me if I’m wrong - is that the person in that post was talking about the work they did on the actual champion in-game, not the music video. Akali recently received a complete rework, both gameplay and visual, so it makes sense that they spoke of being fired from Riot directly.

They’re a programmer and if you like do any kind of digging (which someone already did and provided links and screenshots on the aforementioned Akali post); they didn’t do any design, and aren’t being credited for the programming base they created specifically for the game.

The degree I’ve been misled about so many things is starting to become so off-putting I just don’t reblog much of anything anymore.

I have no idea how to find information like this on my own. Google is a powerful tool, but unless you know what to query, you just kinda flounder. I’d rather not put myself in a position to have to fact-check at all because I’m so bad at it.
