a friend of mine complained about how dark A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara was

she said the amount of gruesome depictions made the book lose its purpose, that there was no good ending or a message to be send

i told her that was the point, that the book was written to be dark and seemingly pointless. she argued that books like that shouldn't exist and proceeded to write terrible reviews about it online and told everyone that the book sucked

you are entitled to your opinion, that's fine. but don't bash on a book for the literal reason the book was written

i personally havent read the book but i still respect it and the author a lot
